Observation Focus
Classroom and Playground Procedures
I practice classroom awareness and position myself to see the
classroom from the centers. I practice playground awareness and
position myself to see the entire playground. I follow the health
procedures outlined in the handbook (i.e. diapering, accident reports,
fire drills etc.). I keep the routine of the class on schedule. I lead the
routines of the classroom independently and confidently.
Free Play Engagement of Students
Interacts at toddler level; Models respect with toddlers; Promotes
independence in toddlers; Sets expectations, explains and follows
through on expectations appropriately; Uses a variety of methods to
engage children and support them in their activities.
Large Group Engagement of Students
Introduces each activity appropriately; Gives simple, appropriate
instructions for child involvement and models how to participate in the
activity; Hands out and collects props in an organized manner;
Transitions appropriately between activities; Manages children’s
behaviors individually and in large group efficiently.
Teacher Presence
Is professional in appearance and demeanor; Is enthusiastic in
attitude; Uses appropriate grammar and syntax; Uses appropriate tone
and volume of voice; Is confident interacting with children one-on-one
and in presenting music activities to large groups; makes eye contact
with children during large group.
Professional Commitment and Responsibility
Is punctual arriving to lab on lead day or other set-up times. Is
prepared for lead day with materials and plans for support teachers. Is
courteous in interactions with parents. Leads pre and post lab
conferences with direction, confidence, and following agenda. Accepts
guidance and suggestion from supervisor and peers. Communicates
with peers in a professional manner.

You moved around the room today addressing
concerns at the art activity and at the bubble activity.
You stayed at the art activity for the most of the day
but you moved quickly to help Amber with Ethan and
Sebastian. You were quick to help around the room
when problems arrived. Sebastian was standing on the
table and Enzo took the walkers down the slide. You
took the backpack outside. You lead the classroom
4 with confidence and direction.
You modeled how to squeeze the paint onto the
baking soda with the dropper. You used self talk as you
dropped the colors onto the baking soda. You worked
on Clara's goal as you pointed to the Blue and Red.
"Clara where is the color blue?". "We use soft hands
with our friends". As you helped Ethan and Sebastian
4 share the balls at the ball drop.
You set the mats out before large group. You prepared
your area before calling the children to come to large
group. You modeled how to cover your eyes with the
bear mittens. You called children by name. You asked
unnecessary questions "Do you see me looking at you".
Transitions between activities needs to happen faster.

Developing: You are enthusiastic with the children. You
took what Sebastian's therapist has taught you about
being in his line of focus. You do well with Sebastian by
being interactive and being on his level. Used "Guys" in
large group. Be careful using a frustrated tone of voice.
You made great eye contact with children. You were
excited to be there presenting your large group. You
are also confident in demeanor. Your grammar and
syntax has gotten better through out the semester but
continue to use professional language when working
with children.

Lead Observation Focus Your large was the best of your lead teaching
experience. You have improved with confidence over
OVERALL SCORE 3.8 the course of Toddler Lab. If you were to take one

language. Overall you have had a great lead teaching
experience. When frustrating problems arise in
Toddler Lab it can be hard to remain calm. You did
your best in the large group situation. You lead the
classroom with confidence. Keep working hard.
