• 1. PURPOSE

To develop software tools that utilizes geographic information systems

(GIS) for the purpose optimizing and analysis of GSM mobile
telecommunication networks in Yemen for Prodigy Systems Company .

• 2. OBJECTIVES

• To develop GIS software tools which will assist in the optimization

process of GSM mobile networks

• To acquire excellent knowledge and experience about mobile

communication in general which includes radio networks optimization

• To acquire excellent knowledge and experience of GIS systems in

general and how they could improve the optimization process

• To form a group of engineers that is able to deal with the software or

similar software and use it to plan GSM mobile radio networks

·
• SCOPE

The group responsible for the project shall make use of some engineering
and technical tools used for planning ,optimization ,and analysis of currently
running radio networks (like the TEMS tool),and some mobile telephony
operators' data bases.

The project should entail the following tasks:

Task #1(already on progress): gaining enough knowledge about

mobile communication systems (especially GSM systems) and GIS systems
and how they're used in the optimization process of GSM radio networks.

Task #2 : obtaining enough practical knowledge about the current GSM

networks running in Yemen and thus see what problems the planning process
faces, and predict how planning using GIS could assist in solving those
problems .
step 1:

gathering data for a running GSM network company by performing drive test
and analysis and analysing the operators statistics.

TEMS tools could be used in this phase.

step2: analysis of data:

the data gathered in step one will be deeply analysed and studied in order to
detect problems associated with the date.

step3 (recommended solution):

at this step we will suggest solutions to the problems detected at step 2. if

the operator is using some technique to solve the problem then we shoud
study those techique , analyse them and suggests some improvment , if not
then we should come up with our solutions . we also could make use of some
experiences of other operators to sove those problems.

Task #3-GIS role : here we're going to figure out how GIS will help in
the opimazation process and how complicated tasks in solving problems
should be easy and require less time , energy and money.

Task #4- developing the tool : based on tasks 1,2, and 3 the
basic tools for the software could be specified and the programming phase
shall start.at this step the work will only be programming oriented . at this
step we will set up the main specification and parts of the software.

step1: specifing

Task #5-implementaion and validation of the tool:

• SCHEDULE(NOT SPECIFIED YET)

• GROUP

The team is supposed to be directed and supervised by both prodigy

company and faculty of engineering.
• GROUP MEMBERS

• GROUP MEETING:
• Each group should meet at least twice a week to discuss their
work

• Each group should get a meeting with the project manager at

least once a week

• The whole group should attend the programming class on a

basis specified by the course instructor

The team includes ten members chosen form faculty of engineering of

Sana'a university the telecommunication sector. The group is then divided
into 3 groups (2 groups each consisting of three students and one group
of four).each group will be responsible for one of the three subprojects:
planning ,optimization ,and analysis of mobile telecommunication
networks using both engineering and technical tools and GIS systems.
