Professional Experience:

Head, Data Sciences, [Company Name] Dec 2014 – current

A team of 6 ML and NLP engineers report to me. My responsibilities include designing the architecture, providing the team with a vision and
ensuring direction, ensuring timely planning and delivery, running the scrums and day-to-day operations, hiring ML and NLP engineers,
mentoring the team and building their ML and NLP skill-set, interacting with clients and external teams. Achievements of the team include

Social Media Text Categorization Algorithm which achieved an 82%+ accuracy overall. Also dealt with a severe
skewed/imbalanced classes problem by employing an ensemble of models with Bag of Words and TF-IDFs and using Subset
Search based Feature Selection techniques. I implemented the learning algorithm and the ensemble piece myself in Java

Author Influence Prediction Algorithm I designed and implemented a semi-supervised regression approach to work around the lack of
sufficient training data in R. Used a novel Influence Rank technique to generate training data from some internal surveys.

Sentiment Analysis Algorithm developed an approach to work around the memory intensive bag of words by identifying useful
features. Used random forests to achieve a precision of 76% and recall of 54% on sentiment level determination with features for
handling slangs, hash-tags, colloquialisms, swear-words, interjections and emoticons.

Social Media Text Intention Identification Algorithm developed rules around using PoS Tagging and Sentence Parsed Tree to
identify social media documents with certain patterns as having an Intention. I also designed and implemented a Keyword
Suggestion Algorithm using WordNet and Dbpedia in Python.
Social Media Trend Identification Algorithm designed a Word Segmentation Algorithm specifically for trending hash-tags which
has an accuracy of 80% and used shallow chunking and parsed trees to identify Noun Phrases and used NER to identify potential
trends. Designed a streaming clustering approach to determine trends using clusters from the data.

Algo Stack Architecture and Implementation designed the architecture for the Algo Stack which is where the algorithms would fit and

operate as services enabling a service-oriented architecture where each algorithm is a service and provided a dependency graph
to map dependencies between algorithms and handle workflows.

I was voted one of the best leaders at Germin8 in an anonymous leadership effectiveness survey with a 98.7% positive response
of which 88.7% was a perfect (4/4) response

Software Development Engineer, Data Mining and Click Prediction, Bing Ads, Microsoft, [Company Name], USA May
2012 – Oct 2014

Used various techniques to improve the performance of a 500+ feature multi-layered neural network to predict probability of click on ads for
queries that lack enough data which led to improvement in overall accuracy by up to 0.6% and sensitivity by 1.4% using Aether

Improved the performance of a 20K+ feature logistic regression model by 0.83% using semantic features using C# and Scope, Cosmos
Employed Content features and Logistic Regression based Translation Models to improve prediction of sat clicks by 0.4%

Worked on a framework to improve the performance of the model for newly created ads using Reinforcement Learning

Designed and developed a SQL/BI Cube to store and process 4 TBs of multi-dimensional data with response time < 10 secs

Developed and maintained a database architecture with partitioned tables where some tables contain > 2 billion records using
SQLServer Did a case study on a few of the premium advertising customers to analyze bidding and bid change dynamics

Program Manager, Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence, Bing Ads, Microsoft, [Company Name], USA July 2011
– May 2012

Worked with a team of 8 engineers (5 developers and 3 testers)

Designed the Architecture for Subject Areas as a storage-efficient solution to the Big Data Management and Data Warehousing needs Developed
a meta-data catalog and drove the migration of 30+ teams to the Subject Areas from traditional data sources

Enabled more efficient storage and developed and enforced housekeeping practices that lead to savings of 3+ PBs
Drove features for development automation and building test infrastructure for the team that saved about 15 man-days per month
and led to early detection of bugs in the development cycle
