Below is a list of some Preliminary Questions to ask the IT Installation Contractor in order to

assist him in compiling a brief (or establish some idea of his Scope of Work):

LAN
Require locational information (i.e. Proposed Layout Drawing) of all PCs/Workstations, Printers, Server(s) and any other
ancillaries to be installed under this contract. All units must be clearly identified.

Power
Question Comment
1.0 How many PCs/ Workstations will be installed?

1.1 How many printers will be installed?

1.2 (Assuming 220 Volt AC supply), how many AC Socket Outlets will be
required at each PC location?

1.3 Preferred socket outlet type?

1.4 Provide an estimate of total AC power required for complete LAN system
(include Server(s), PCs, Monitors, Printers and any other associated
ancillaries. Assume maximum loading conditions (i.e. all units comprising
system, powered ON)
Provide the above information in Table form identifying each unit and its
power requirement. (Volts, Amps and Watts).

1.5 Confirm UPS power required.

1.6 UPS required for Server room only?

1.7 UPS required for complete system?

1.8 Will a dedicated UPS (located in Server room) be required or is a shared UPS
acceptable?

1.9 Estimated power required from UPS.

1.10 How many minutes of uninterrupted UPS power required (Assuming max.
load conditions)?

1.11 Any special cooling requirements for Server room or Server cabinet?

1.12 Any cabinets/racks to be provided or installed by others?

If so, how many and where?
Any special fixing/mounting arrangements required?

1.13 Is IT Installation contractor providing all AC power facilities for each unit
( e.g. cable, containment and socket outelts) or will this be done by M & E
contractor?
If to be done by IT contractor, will need details (including drawings) of
proposed layout, showing all routings from local AC distribution panels to
socket outlets.
Details of cable sizes and proposed containment type will also be required.
MCB requirements?

1.14 Submission of Method Statements for installation of above. Including times-

cales.
1.15 Full list of provided materials and a detailed Scope of Work to be given by
Installation Contractor.

Data
1.16 How many VDOs will be required at each desk location? (Allow for PCs and
Telephones if all works to be done under one contract? – See section titled
‘Additional Questions’ at bottom of document).

1.17 How many VDOs required at other locations for Printers, Fax Machines,
Photocopiers, Chart Plotters etc.? (As above, include this information if all
installation works are to be done under 1 contract. – See section titled
‘Additional Questions’ at bottom of document).

1.18 Are RJ45s acceptable for all VDOs or will RJ21s (or other) be required
specifically for telephones?

1.19 Assuming a raised access floor within all office areas, if all outlets terminate
at finished floor level, what floor tile requirements (e.g. special floor tiles or
cut-outs) will be required at each location?
Provide cut-out template if required.

1.20 Is IT Installation contractor providing all data cabling and associated

containment from Server room to all stations (i.e. the complete LAN), or will
he be providing data cables and secondary containment only?
(If Primary containment is by M & E contractor- demarcation points must be
defined)
Who will supply and install Voice and Data outlets?

1.21 Details of all proposed cable routing should be supplied along with cable types
and containment.

1.22 Again, a full list of provided materials and Detailed Scope of Work to be
given by Installation Contractor
.
1.23 Full method statement for above Installation works.
(Any special requirements for testing and commissioning?)

Access Control and Security Systems(CCTV)

Require locational information (i.e. Proposed Layout Drawing) of all units comprising these systems and any other
ancillaries to be installed under this contract. All units must be clearly identified.

2.0 Locational information

2.1 Power requirements for each - tabular form (Break down the detail as
requested for LAN system)

2.2 UPS requirements . Dedicated or shared. (Break down the details as requested
for LAN system – Units requiring UPS, power requirement of each, time
required from UPS when running on full load).

2.3 Requirement for main control equipment.

Cabinet or rack mounted?
Cabinets or racks to be provided by IT contractor or others?
2.4 Where will main cabinets/racks be installed?

2.5 How much room required (i.e. how many cabinets)?

2.6 Any cooling requirements?

2.7 Any DC requirements. (IF so, details)?

2.8 Any diversity required for Power to ‘main control’ cabinet(s) (AC or DC)?

2.9 Power and data cable and containment information required as for LAN
system.
(Proposed routing, cable and containment details)

2.10 Any special requirements from Fit-out contractors, (e.g. Ceiling tile cut-outs,
Panel cut-outs, Door cut-outs, bracket mounting requirements)?

2.11 Full scope of work document required along with list of materials to be
provided by installation contractor.
(Any materials to be provided by others?)

2.12 Detailed method statement required for all installation and commissioning
work.
(Mention any special requirements for T and C).

Telephones

Additional Questions:

1. Will each of the above mentioned installations be treated as individual (separate) projects (each with a different project
number), or will they all be under one project number and under the same Scope of Works document?

2. Do any of the above systems (e.g. Access Control) need to tie into a BMS system (if any).
Do Any Critical or Major alarms for any of the above systems (e.g. Power monitoring, Temperature monitoring)
need to be connected to the BMS.
