2.0 Introduction

Motorcycle traditionally equipped with kick stand and double stand. A kickstand is a
device on a bicycle or motorcycle that allows the bike to be kept upright without leaning against
another object or the aid of a person. A kickstand is usually a piece of metal that flips down from
the frame and contacts the ground. It is generally located in the middle of the bike or towards the
rear. Some touring bicycles have two: one at the rear, and a second in the front.

A center stand kickstand is a pair of legs or a bracket that flips straight down and lifts the
rear wheel off the ground when in use. Center stands can be mounted to the chain stays right
behind the bottom bracket or to the rear dropouts. Many motorcycles feature center stands in
addition to side stands. The center stand is advantageous because it takes most of the
motorcycle's weight off its tires for long-term parking, and it allows the user to perform
maintenance such as chain adjustments without the need for an external stand. Center stands are
found on most "standard" and "touring" motorcycles but are omitted on most high-performance
sport bikes to save weight and increase ground clearance.

The mechanism in our proposed project are relatively simple. Motorcycle and bicycle
chocks are bifurcated and fit around the front wheel, supporting the bike and preventing its
movement. Front wheel chock are better than the stand as they provide perfect 90° bike position
and preventing from accidental topple from people colliding onto them.

Motor & Drive Belt System

This unit is the cornerstone of all drilling machines and consists of an induction motor at the rear,
situated behind the column with the chuck directly over the table. The chuck speed can be varied
by lifting up the interlocked cover, releasing the tension on the drive belt which is then re-
positioned over the most appropriate pulleys. Chuck speed is very important as different
materials will require different speeds for optimum drilling. The chuck is contained in a precision
machined quill within the headstock. There should be virtually no play in it even when extended
out to three-quarters of its travel.

The Table
The surface ground table can be raised up and down the column by means of a rack and pinion
mechanism. There is also an option on many machines to tilt it, which means that the work piece
can be drilled at an angle other than 90°. Many tables, particularly in the Trade and Engineer
ranges, have grooves around the edge to enable coolant to drain away. All tables have diagonal
slots or grooves allowing a machining vice or additional bench drill table to be bolted to it.

The Column
The column is a hollow cylinder of surface ground steel, ensuring that the table’s rise and fall is
very smooth making the height adjustment a light task. The column should also be strong enough
to maintain rigidity, therefore reducing vibration.

The Base
This is a robust, heavy piece of cast iron where a flat horizontal surface has been ground.
Moving the table sideways allows a taller work piece to be drilled by standing it in on the base.
The casting for the column is bolted securely onto the base at the rear and there is also the
facility to bolt the drilling machine to either a bench top or floor.

Based on the Morphological analysis, product 1 was chosen with the highest score of 9
points. The datum of the morphological study was chosen to be the conventional motorized hand
drill as it is the most common type of drill used. In term of performance, product 1 is the best
among the bunch. Usually, a bench drill machine is equipped with higher horse power motor to
provide more torque for the drilling process. The same case goes with reliability, with the
exception of manual drill, a bench will not be subjected to heating issues as much as a magnetic
drill, thus causing it to be more reliable especially in situation where continuous operation is
necessary. However, in term of portability, the bench drill is the worst among all other option as
not only the drill itself is heavy, the overall size of the drill is significantly larger compared to the
magnetic drill or manual hand drill, making it very impractical to move. As for safety, product 1
has safety guard glass to prevent flying chip from harming the operator. Based on overall score
of Morphological study, product 1 is the suitable option for this project.

6.0 Possible Improvement

1- Mechanical guiding system`

By adding a guiding system as shown in sketch ,the conventional drilling process
especially for drilling blind holes can be optimized.

2- Electromagnetic fixture
By applying the principle of electromagnetism as applied in the magnetic drill, the
drilling process can be accelerated as the action of tightening and loosening the clamp to
hold the workpiece can be replaced with just a flick of a switch to either hold or release
the workpiece.
