Among the countless problems that permeate the school context is demotivation. Understanding
the motives that lead students to engage in specific activities is a priority to promote healthy
learning. This study focuses on the perspective of the Elementary School II student regarding the
factors that motivate or discourage written production in the school. This research is based on the
Theory of Self-Determination. The theoretical contributions of this perspective have configured
significant and consistent ways for the understanding of motivation for learning and for healthy
academic development. Besides the Self-Determination Theory, the studies of Bzuneck (2010),
Guimarães (2009), Boruchovitch (2010), Tedesco and Falquetto (2015), Durão (2011), Costa
(2010), Zambom ), authors who are in agreement on the importance of motivation in the teaching
and learning process, as well as Marcuschi (2010), Dolz, Gagnon and Decândio (2010), Passarelli
(2004), Antunes (2017), among others, authors that approach the production of text as a process
that must consider several steps. The methodology adopted was the approach of qualitative
nature and ethnographic inspiration, operationalized through participant observation of the
classes and semi-structured interview. The results showed that it is possible to develop and
maintain motivation for writing in the classroom. Therefore, we present an intervention propose
for the teachers, with activities to develop students' motivation in their moments of writing in the
classroom. We hope that a discussion about the motivational factors, capable of increasing the
student's interest in writing can happen in the context of the Professional Master in Literature -
