Day FRIDAY

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of:
 The chemical reactions associated with biological and industrial
processes affecting life and the environment
B. Performance Standards The learners should be able to:
 Use any form of media to present chemical reactions involved in
biological and industrial processes affecting life and environment
C. Learning Competencies  Recognize the different types of chemical reactions: Combination,
and Objectives Decomposition, Single Displacement, Double Displacement,
Neutralization
 Classify reactions according to its type

IV. PROCEDURE
 When can we say that there is a chemical reaction?
A. ELICIT - What are the signs that a chemical rxn has occurred?
Watch Video:
B. ENGAGE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TX6BYceUSL0

1. In what everyday objects are chemical reactions observable?

2. What types of chemical reactions were shown in the video?
Activity: Anong type mo?
C. EXPLORE *Students will be handed out kits containing a picture, cut-outs with chemical
reactants, and a blank cut-out for the product and type of reaction.

Questions:
D. EXPLAIN 1. Should there be a reaction between your reagents, what will be the
resultant product?
2. What type of reaction is it?
3. Justify your reason in #2.
4. In the second chemical reaction, how many reactants are used? How
many product/s is/are formed?
5. In the third chemical reaction, how many reactants are used? How
many product/s is/are formed?
6. In the first chemical reaction, what changes did copper and iron
undergo during the reaction? What can you conclude about iron?
7. In the 4th chemical reactions, how many reactants and products are
involved? What kinds of substance are they?
8. In the fifth chemical reaction, both the reactants and products are
compounds made up of positive and negative ions, what did you notice
with the pairing of the positive and negative ions in the reactant and
product side?

Have students present their outputs in class.

E. ELABORATE  In combination reactions, two or more reactants form one product.
 Decomposition reactions are really the opposite of combination
reactions. In decomposition reactions, a single compound breaks
down into two or more simpler substances (elements and/or
compounds).
 In single displacement reactions, a more active element displaces
(kicks out) another less active element from a compound.
 In double displacement reactions, or metathesis reactions, two
species (normally ions) are displaced. Most of the time, reactions of
this type occur in a solution, and either an insoluble solid
(precipitation reactions) or water (neutralization reactions) will be
formed.
 Combustion reactions occur when a compound, usually one
containing carbon, combines with the oxygen gas in the air. This
process is commonly called burning. Heat is the most-useful product
of most combustion reactions.

Classify each of the following chemical reactions according to

F. EVALUATE its types.
1. H2CO3 CO2 + H2O
2. HCl + NaOH NaCl + H2O
3. Na2O + H2O NaOH
4. Mg + Sn (ClO3)4 Mg (ClO3)2 + Sn
5. C2H4 + O2 CO2 + H2O
H2SO4 is called “king” of all chemicals because of its many uses in industry.
G. EXTEND The presence of H2SO4 in the atmosphere makes the rain acidic. Sulfuric
acid enters into the atmosphere as air pollutants through the following set of
chemical reactions
S (s) + O2 (g) SO2
SO2 (g) + O2 (g) SO3 (g)
SO3 (g) + H2O (l) H2SO4 (aq)
H2SO3 (aq) + O2 (g) H2SO4(aq)
NH4+ (g) + H2SO3(aq) (NH4)2SO3 + H+
H2SO4 (aq) + CaCO3 (s) CaSO4 + CO2 (g) + H2O (l)

Classify each of the series of chemical reactions to fully understand the

formation of acid rain.
