Introduction

Money is used for satisfaction of our needs and wants. We use money for
our food, safety, clothing, education, lifestyle, and survival. Honestly, we can live
without it. But the question is, in the present society with the alarming inflation
rate, can we live efficiently without money? Without money, the farmers cannot
raise crops nor can’t the manufactures produce goods for us to eat. We cannot
buy the clothes we wish to wear as well as the uniforms we are wearing right
now. The people won’t be able to pay their taxes which will result to economic
breakdown. If there’s no collection from taxes, the government cannot
compensate the employees which will lead to poverty. How can our teachers
teach us well if they are financially problematic? How do we travel from place to
place if we have no penny for fare and if there are no infrastructures? How can
we able to create the youth for the future if they suffer from the problems of
today? We cannot live the lives we dreamed to live without money. Imagine the
life of a homeless and less fortune. He can eat by begging for food from other
people. If there’s no money, who will beg from whom? Definitely, all of us,
regardless of any factor, will suffer from drought and hunger.
If money is not, then what is the root of all evil?
1 Timothy 6:30 answers the question. It states, “For the love of money is the root
of all evil: which while some coveted after, and pierced themselves through with
many sorrows.”
How does the love for money become the root of all evil?
Thirst for money leads people to do bad things. In our present society, we
always hear news about robbery, drug-related incidents, extrajudicial killings, and
the like. What do you think pushes people to do these? Is it because they are
rooting for something in exchange of it? Precisely, you are right. They do it
because there is something in exchange of it. And guess what? It is the love for
money- the act of desiring for money because of our ambitious wants. People rob
because they ask for more money. Some are selling drugs because of the cost
which is high enough to be spent for their. Desires. And some are working with
the shadows because of the highest pay they get from this job.
To put in concretely, for instance, let us put ourselves in a situation where we
desire for IPHONE X but our parents can’t afford it. We desire for the phone so
much that we think of ways in acquiring it. We then reach to the point that we do
evil things just to have the item. Is it the money that pushes you do this? No. It is
the love for money. It is the obsession for the things we want which are basically
unnecessary for living. Convince me or not, it is the love for money that business-
minded people, the capitalists, would be happy for high return of investment. It is
the love for money that drives politicians to corrupt the riches of the people. It is
the love for money that pushes people in selling their internal organs or even
their dignity. It was not and will always never be the money but the love for it. I
always believe that all things are created to benefit mankind and for a greater
purpose. Money is a necessity in order to live. What makes it evil is the love for it.
We should properly and ethically use and get in the ways that are acceptable in
the eyes of people, constitution, and God. As we live, let’s not count our riches.
Instead, count and be thankful of God’s blessings in the form of family, friends,
memories, lessons, and experiences.
