information

Job description The intern will gain skills of networking, research, management, web-design, and general
administration, in addition to invaluable insight into teaching practices at FE and HE
levels. This internship would be especially beneficial for the many students who are
thinking about going into a teaching career at the end of their studies at Bangor, or who
are keen to enrich their CV with impressive transferable skills.

The intern will be clerical assistant contributing to the bilingual project, RE-Connect: a
pedagogical network for RE across North Wales and North West England (a £75K project,
funded by All Saints Educational Trust). As such the intern would be able to include on
their CV the fact they have worked on an externally funded University research project.
The project has received attention in the national press, and has been endorsed by
former Arch-Bishop, Lord Rowan Williams. The aim of the project is to increase the
number of religious education teachers across North Wales and the North West of
England. It will provide current A-level teachers with updated educational, interactive
materials for their teaching, and CPD events, and current A-level students with revision
materials and revision workshops. It will also establish work experience events and a new
module for third year students at Bangor University who are thinking about becoming
teachers themselves.

The principal task of the intern will be to work with a senior member of the team in
overseeing the project’s outreach programmes, and existing network that have been
established between the School and local secondary schools and FE colleges. This will
involve the intern/s undertaking a number of tasks, as follows.
1) Liaising with members of the RE-Connect team based in Philosophy and Religion at
Bangor University, and current religious studies school teachers in the local area, who are
already involved in the project. Here the intern will disseminate information about
forthcoming events, and various ideas that are under development. 2) Collation of
information that can be used to inform or produce teaching materials for the project’s
website. (The intern will have the choice of working on materials for students who have
learning needs -- this could help the intern appreciate the wider pedagogical value and
context of their own specific PLSP.) 3) Administration for A-level revision days (held at
Bangor University). We are pleased to be able to offer the intern/s the possibility of
facilitating the teaching of small groups of A-level students (this would be guided and
supervised by staff members). 4) Administration for the planning of a future CPD event
for religious studies teachers (to be held at Bangor University in September 2019) 5)
Accompanying members of the team to school visits in the region to discuss their own
experiences as an undergraduate of Bangor University.
