“Introduction to FDP” and “Maintaining Academic Ethics and Integrity” was
explained briefly by the Principal Investigator of T10KT project at IIT Bombay.
He shared his views and the purpose of designing these special FDPs. He insisted
that use of technology has become ubiquitous. The main objective is to maximize
the quality time spent by learner on learning various topics.

Week 1: Moving from Physical to Online Classrooms

Types of Interaction between Physical classroom participants

1. Teacher-Content Interaction
Teacher refers books, papers and prepares teaching and learning materials (Eg:
slides, pdf, word document etc)

2. Teacher-Learner Interaction
Teacher teaches the learner using teaching materials (Eg: blackboard)

3. Learner-Content Interaction
Student learns from the teaching and learning materials

4. Learner-Learner Interaction
Learners (Students) discussing among themselves about the learnt concepts

Online Learning:

In an Online Learning, Teacher changes to a Facilitator and the three main

elements remain same and are:

i. The Learner.
ii. The content
iii. The Facilitator.

Facilitator interact with content and prepare Videos, resources like slides, practice
problems for students to workout.
Students will interact with the content by accessing the course, watching the videos
and doing the problems.
Learner –Learner interaction is facilitated through discussion forums.

 LeD (Learning Dialogues) – It is similar to Teacher-Learner interaction,

LeD is an interaction between the video content and the learner where the
learner has additional capability like pausing the video to answer the
reflection spot questions, increasing or decreasing the playback speed,
replaying the videos any number of times as required. These facilities are not
available in physical class room environment.
 LbD (Learning by Doing Activities) –It is the concept of asking reflection
questions in the video and also provided facility to pause the video and
answer the reflection question. The reflection questions in the videos helps
the facilitator to determine whether the concepts explained are understood
by the learner and it also helps the learner why the answer he chosen is
correct or if it is wrong then why it is wrong. The main difference between
physical class room interaction and online interaction is that in online
interaction the learner gets immediate feedback about his understanding of
the concepts.
 LxT (Learning extension Resources) – It is the concept of providing
additional resources that are meant to extend the knowledge of the topic
which you have learned already. The resources can be a website link, blog,
videos, research papers and etc.
 LxI (Learning experience Interactions) - It is the concept of asking very
focused question to all the learners and provided specific instructions on
how to conduct the discussion on the question asked. The main advantage of
asking focused question is that it enables to discuss without deviating from
the concept discussed and also enables the learners to get in-depth
knowledge in that topic.

 Query: How does reflection spot posed in videos differs from

intermediate questions asked by teacher in physical classroom?
Reflection spot is more active mechanism as each and every learner is
required to think about the question unlike a classroom question where only
few participate.
 Query: How does Learning by Doing differ from practice activity in
physical classroom?
Each learner gets an opportunity to answer this question and get a detailed
feedback. This helps in making the learning process becomes more learner-
centric.
 Query: What is the purpose of assimilation quizzes?
To check whether the learners are able to understand LxTs resources
 Query:What are the advantages of having a structured group discussion
with a focus question and specific instruction
The discussion revolves around the core theme without digressing
Discussion will be more engaged

Self Exploration Resources – Basics of ICT:

 What is ICT (Information Communication Technology)

 Computer + Communication technology to provide large storage and Fast
computation in wired and wireless communication means.
 Explained typical ICT application of buying a mobile phone from e-
commerce site.
 Mobile App or Browser: Hubs/switches/Router-Server.
LeD 1.6 Resource Creation 1: Course Journal
Course Journal is a critical resource with continued series of writings made by the
learner in response to the interactions with course content. It is both a process and
record, which provides an opportunity to examine the process by which one can
approach the content and arrive at conclusions or inferences.

LeD 1.7 Your Course Journal

The course journal consists of two parts: Process and Record.
In the process,
➢ Select a familiar document (ex: Word)
➢ Create an outline structure
➢ Record time of entries (date and time)

In the record part, the following contents should be present:

Crucial points
Your learning
Different idea
Explanation
Contradicting knowledge
Implications
