Third Sunday of Lent
Greetings of peace. I hope that you are enjoying a prayerful Lent. This coming week is bookended by
two unique commemorations.
On Monday, March 25, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord. I’ve always
found this day to be fascinating. Well outside of the Christmas season, the Church focuses hard on the
event of the Incarnation. The date of this Solemnity is purposely placed nine months prior to Christmas.
The readings and the artwork of the Annunciation are both beautiful and, well, perfect. Although the
Annunciation is not a holy day of obligation, I invite you to spend some time on Monday pondering the
miracle of the Christ-child’s entrance into the world.
On Friday, March 29, The United States marks a day of remembrance for all Vietnam War Veterans.
Many of us in the U.S. needed many years to go by before we fully appreciated the extent of the sacrifice
of those who served in the war in Vietnam. We have many people within the Shrine worship community
who faithfully served in the military during this painful time for our country. Within the friar community,
we especially appreciate Br. John Maganzini, OFM, who served faithfully in Vietnam and is especially
known for his kindness and generosity.

March 29th marks a day of remembrance for all Vietnam War Veterans.
This year marks my 50th Anniversary. I returned home from the United
States Army and Vietnam War in 1969. This day holds special meaning
for me as I remember all those women and men I served with; those who
returned and those who gave their lives. On this day, let us join in prayer
for all Vietnam Veterans. Today, as well, let us remember all Veterans
who have served our great Country and those who are presently serving.
Let today be a day in which we join in saying "THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE."
These five words come to me and to all Veterans as a blessing!
The friars at St. Anthony Shrine would like to stay in communication with you. There are a number of ways
to make that happen. One option is to be on selective Shrine mailing lists, according to your choosing. You
may already be on some of our mailing lists. If you would like to be added to any of the lists below, please
provide your contact information. You may remove yourself from any or all of our mailing lists at any time.
It is our policy that we never sell our lists to anyone.
