India’s

first night run for women’s safety

Conceptualised and organised by UACTIV, on behalf of the Akshara Center, Urban Feet is a platform
for all aspiring runners and fitness enthusiasts to come out and support women’s safety,
empowerment and equality by participating in a night run. Women are usually most insecure about
what they wear, where they go and what they do at night. Therefore a night run allows us to break
that barrier of fear.

This year our theme is #SheRiseWeRise - where we urge every female participant to bring a male
counterpart (eg: their father, brother, uncle, friend, boyfriend, etc) to participate for FREE alongside
them. This allows us to send our message where it must be heard. As men, it is our duty to keep
women safe and support them in all their endeavours. By uplifting women, we rise too.

The run sees participation from 100+ girls from the Akshara Center, the Mumbai Police as well as
celebrities and influencers such as Rahul Bose, Shabana Azmi, Monica Dogra, Yasmin Karachiwala,
Cindy Jourdain, etc

A fixed proportion of the participation fee (INR 700) goes directly towards the Akshara Center – to
help them further their initiatives for women in our country.

The run is supported by GULF Oil India.

About UACTIV: A mobile app based social networking and discovery for all sports and fitness
enthusiasts. India’s largest platform of its kind. Based in Mumbai, funded by the Hinduja Group. We
use technology to empower people to connect with one another and build relationships based on
their sport and fitness interest.

About Akshara Center: The Mumbai-based Akshara Centre grew as result of the contemporary
Indian women’s movement of the 1980s, which primarily campaigned against violence against
women. The organisation was established in 1995 as a resource centre, at a time when women’s
rights were gaining momentum in society and there was a rising need for material from a gender
perspective. Their initial goal was to educate both women and youth on the subject of women abuse
so as to rid society off the same. The organisation also supports girls in completing their higher
education, especially those who need to pay for the same themselves. Their vision is to establish a
gender just and violence free society.
