Terms and Conditions

Dear Student,

Welcome to Goethe–Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Mumbai! With regards to our course structure, we
would like to bring the following points to your attention:

ATTENDANCE:

The student is expected to be punctual and regular in attending class. Goethe – Institut /Max Mueller
Bhavan Mumbai does not make up for the time lost by the student through absence. Attendance
Certificate for the course can be issued only with the minimum 75% attendance.

PASSING

For all levels, except B2.1, it is mandatory for the student to clear the international examinations of
the Goethe – Instiut in order to be promoted to the next higher level at MMB Mumbai. Passing marks
for the examination is 60%. Only those who pass the levels with the required percentage will be
awarded certificates of the respective levels.

B2.1 level: The B2.1 level course will have internal assessment tests. Passing marks are 60%.
Certificate will be awarded only to students with minimum 75% attendance.

EXAMINATIONS

The international examinations of the Goethe – Institut are offered to our students at concessional
rates. Kindly check our website www.goethe.de/mumbai for the current exam fees for internal
candidates.

The examination fees are not included in the course fees and have to be paid at least a week before
the examination. The fee structure is subject to revision with prior notice. Delay in payment fees is
not allowed. Exam fees are non refundable and non transferable.

The dates for the examination are announced in the class.

In case a student fails in the exam, the student can repeat the same level or appear again for the
next scheduled international examination as an external candidate. Concessional rates are not
applicable for external candidates.

ADMISSION TO FURTHER COURSES

• Admission to the next course is granted only against full payment of tuition fees on the date
of admissions. Enrolment for all courses are open on a first come, first served basis as long
as the seats are available.
• Registration on the specified dates as mentioned in the course schedule: Mon- Fri 10.00 –
13.00 & 14.00 – 16.00. Fees are payable by demand draft or cash in favor of
“Max Mueller Bhavan” payable at Mumbai. Payment by cheques or credit cards is not
acceptable.
• The fee structure is subject to revision without prior notice.
• In case of late payment, late fee charges are applicable.
• If there are insufficient enrolments for a particular time slot, that course will be cancelled
and the fee reimbursed fully only against the original course fee receipt.

ID CARDS

ID Cards are issued to the student at the start of the course. The student is expected to carry it at all
times and produce it on demand. It is mandatory to hand over the ID card at the time of collecting
the certificates. Loss of ID Card should be immediately reported to the office in writing.

COLLECTION OF CERTIFICATES

The student can collect the certificate against the ID Card in person. All certificates are to be collected
within two months of appearing for the exam. Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Mumbai is not
responsible for the certificates thereafter. If the student cannot collect the certificate in person, then
the certificate can be collected by an authorized person against the Goethe-Institut /
Max Mueller Bhavan Mumbai ID Card and an authorization letter from the student.

CORRECT INFORMATION ON CERTIFICATES

Information on the certificate will appear as written on the examination form. Any corrections on the
certificate should be done within 15 days of issue and would attract a penalty of Rs.1500/-

DUPLICATE CERTIFICATES

In case a certificate is lost/misplaced, a duplicate certificate will be issue against payment of

Rs.1500/-.

FOR REFUNDS

• In case of withdrawal of participation up to the start of the course, Rs. 1000/- will be
deducted from the total course fees.
• In case of withdrawal of participation within a week from the start of the course, 40% of the
course fees will be refunded, thereafter there will be no refund of course fees.
• All requests for refund of fees must be made in writing to the office.

HOLIDAYS DURING THE YEAR

Kindly refer to our website www.goethe.de/mumbai for the list of holidays.

TRANSFER OF FEES

• The student does not have the right to change the batch once registered. A transfer is only
granted in exceptional cases. A request for transfer has to be given to the office in writing
and the transfer is effective from the date the office receives the request in writing. The
decision to grant a transfer is solely at the discretion of the Language department.
• No refunds are possible, once the transfer is granted.
• No transfer is granted after 50% of the course is completed.
• Transfer of fees is valid for six months from the date of transfer.
• Retransfer is not allowed.
• Transfer charges are Rs.1000/-

ENTRANCE TESTS

For candidates who have learnt German previously, and wish to apply to Goethe-Institut /
Max Mueller Bhavan Mumbai directly for a level higher than A1, are required to clear an entrance
test. Kindly contact the office for the dates and timings.

The test result decides the level the candidate can join and the decision of our faculty members is
final and binding.

The fees for the entrance test are Rs.1000/- (payable only by cash). On joining the course with
immediate effect, the same are adjusted against the course fees. Please note that the entrance tests
fees are non – refundable.

Candidates from Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Mumbai or other Goethe-Insitut who have
successfully cleared the international exams within the last 6 months are fully exempted from the
entrance tests.

If a candidate has appeared for an exam at any Goethe-Institut and has not cleared the exam, the
candidate is permitted to appear for the entrance test only after 6 months.

BOOKS

Course book charges are not included in the course fees and the course books have to be bought at
the start of each course.

The student is expected to abide by all rules and regulations of the Institut that are in force or may
come into existence during their association with the Institut. The decision of the management of the
Institut in all matters will be final.

In case you are not satisfied about something, please talk to your class teacher.

If you require further clarification, please discuss with the Language Department.

You can always talk to the director with prior appointment.
