Ruderina Suello, OP Christology

First Year - ITF Rev. Fr. Virgilio Ojoy, OP

FINAL EXAMINATION

Question:
After all the lessons you have learned in our class, who is Jesus to you now?

Answer:

It goes without saying that there is so much to know about Jesus. The lessons in our
Christology class has given me an opportunity to actually learn much more about Him, in
addition to the Catechesis I received during my initial formation. For this, I am deeply grateful.

If I were to put into one word the summary of the realizations I have gained through our lessons,
I would choose the word fulfillment.

Jesus is the fulfillment of the many biblical figures including the Prophet, the Suffering Servant.
As the fulfillment of the P rophet who proclaims and brings messages in the name of God,
Jesus, during His ministry, faithfully and unfailingly made known to the Israelites and even to
those outside their race the message of God’s love and mercy. Jesus is also the fulfillment of
Ebed Yahweh, the S uffering Servant, the one who, with firm conviction and patient gentleness
endured the many pains and trials that accompanied the carrying out of His mission of
gathering and liberating God’s people.

Jesus, as the W ord, is the fulfillment of the Father’s thought and action. One saint wrote that in
Jesus, God has spoken to us only once and the Word He spoke remains for ever. In that Word,
becoming flesh, God made manifest His infinite and merciful kindness to His chosen ones. In
His life and mission, Jesus became the fulfillment of the Father’s plan of salvation. As S on of
God, Jesus has revealed to us how it is to live as a child of the Heavenly Father. In His obedient
following of God’s Will, He has shown to us how it is to “participate in the divine work of
salvation” and has given us the “basis from which our sonship derives”. By our baptism, in
receiving Jesus in our lives through faith and in imitating His obedience , we are able to “share
in Jesus’ unique relationship with the Father.”

Personally, I regard Jesus as the fulfillment of my longings and desires, my happiness. There
may be times that I find it hard to recognize, but He never fails to make known His presence,
through consolations or even by means of admonishment or chastisement. In Him and in
following Him, I also find the fulfillment of my own purpose in life. The path is indeed quite
difficult, but the journey and the destination (fulfillment of God’s Will) will always be worth the
sacrifice.

In being able to know Jesus as the fulfillment of the above-mentioned figures, and in a personal
way, I also realize that I am also being called to live as Jesus lived: as prophet to announce to all
God’s tremendous love; as a suffering servant who willingly accepts difficulties and trials for the
sake of participating in His mission to gather those who stray and bring relief to the little ones;
as an echo of the incarnate Word which resonates His Good News to all peoples; and as a
daughter of God, reflecting the image of His Son.

By the grace and mercy of God, as I strive to follow Jesus’ example, I pray, through the
intercession of Mary, the Theotokos, that I may also be a fulfillment and true reflection of Christ,
true God and true Man, who lives and reigns forever and ever.

Amen.
