Dua’a Kumayl Merits ‫كدعاكء ككميل‬
Kumayl Ibn Ziyad Nakha'i (r.a) was a confidant amongst the
companions of Imam Ali Ibn Abi Talib (a.s) and this sublime Du'a was
first heard from the beautiful, though anguished, voice of Imam Ali
(a.s). According to Allama Majlisi (r.a) Kumayl had attended an
assembly in the Mosque at Basra which was addressed by Imam Ali
(a.s) in the course of which the night of the 15th of Shaban was
mentioned. Imam Ali (a.s) said-"Whosoever keeps awake in
devoutness on this night and recites the Du'a of Prophet Khizr,
undoubtedly that person's supplication will be responded to and
granted. When the assembly at the Mosque had dispersed, Kumayl
(r.a) called at the house where Imam Ali was staying, and requested
him to acquaint him with Prophet Khizr's "Du'a". Imam Ali (a.s) asked
Kumayl (r.a) to sit down, record and memorize the "Du'a" which Imam
Ali (a.s )dictated to Kumayl (r.a).
Imam Ali (a.s) then advised Kumayl (r.a) to recite this "Du'a" on the
eve of (i.e. evening preceding) every Friday, or once a month or at
least once in every year so that, added Imam Ali (a.s), "Allah may
protect yu from the evils of the enemies and the plots contrived by
impostors. O' Kumayl! in consideration of your companionship and
understanding, I grant you this honour of entrusting this "Du'a" to
you.".

O Allah, I ask You by Your mercy,
which covers all things; ‫ل‬ ‫و‬
allahumma in-ni as-aluka bi-rah-matikal-lati
wasiàt kul-la shay

And by Your strength, through which
You overpower all things,
wa bi-qu-watikal-lati qahar-ta biha kul-la

ْ‫يِّء‬
‫ح‬ ‫ل‬
‫ش‬
And toward which all things are
humble
wa khadaà laha kul-lu shay

‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ َ‫ل‬ ‫م‬

And before which all things are lowly;
wa dhal-la laha kul-lu shay

By Your might, by which You
overcome all things.
wa bi-jabarutikal-lati ghalab-ta biha kul-la

‫ش‬ َ‫ها‬

And by Your might, before which
nothing stands;
wa biìzzatikal-lati la yaqumu laha shay

By Your magnificence, which fills all
things.
wa biàzamatikal-lati mala-at kul-la shay

‫سلطاَن لك الَ ل‬ ‫لل ه‬‫ب‬ ‫و‬
ْ‫يِّء‬
‫ح‬ ‫ل‬

By Your authority, which rises over all
things.
wa bisul-tanikal-ladhi àla kul-la shay

ِّ‫جهلك الَلبَاَلقي‬ ‫ولب لول ح‬ ‫كدعُاكء ككمُيل‬
‫ب لعحدَّ ل فللناَلءْ ك هلل‬

‫ش‬
By Your face (i.e. essence), which
remains after the destruction of all
things.
wa bi-waj-hikal-baqi ba`da fana-i kul-li shay
‫م‬ ‫ل‬
ِّ‫ماَئ لك الَلتي‬ ‫س‬ ‫ل‬ ْ‫أ‬ ‫ب‬‫و‬

‫ن ك هلل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬

‫ت أحركاَ ل‬ ‫ل ح‬ ‫ل‬ ‫م‬

By Your names (attributes) which
manifest Your power over all things.
wa bi-as-ma-ikal-lati malat ar-kana kul-li

shay

ِ‫ذي‬ ‫ل‬
‫مك الَ ل‬ ‫ولب لعلل ل‬
ْ‫يِّء‬ ‫ش‬‫ل‬ ‫ل‬
‫ل‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ك‬ ‫ب‬ ‫ل‬
‫ط‬ َ‫حا‬ ‫ل‬ ‫أ‬
‫ح‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬
And by Your knowledge, which
encompasses all things;
wa biìl-mikal-ladhi ahata bikul-li shay

‫م‬
ِ‫ذي‬ ‫ل‬ َ‫ل‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ل‬

‫ك‬ ‫جله‬ ‫ولب لهنورل ول ح‬
ْ‫يِّء‬ ‫ش‬‫ل‬ ‫ل‬
‫ل‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ك‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ل‬ َ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ْ‫ء‬َ‫ضا‬ ‫ل‬ ‫أ‬
‫ح‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ل‬
And, by the light of Your face (i.e.
essence), through which all things
shine.
wa bi-nuri waj-hikal-ladhi ada-a lahu kul-lu
shay
‫س‬
‫ه‬ ‫دَّو‬
‫ل‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ق‬ َ‫يا‬
‫ل‬ ‫ر‬
‫ه‬ ‫نو‬
‫ه‬ َ‫يا‬
‫ل‬
O Light! O All-holy!
ya nuru ya qud-dus
‫ن‬ ِ‫لَي‬
‫ل‬ ‫و‬‫ل‬ ‫ل‬‫ا‬ ‫ل‬
‫ل‬ ‫و‬‫ل‬ ‫أ‬ َ‫يا‬
‫م ل‬ ‫ل م‬
O First of those who are first
ya aw-walal-aw-walin
‫ن‬ ‫ري‬
‫ل ل‬ ‫خ‬
‫ل‬ ‫ال‬ ‫ر‬
‫ل‬ ‫خ‬
‫ل‬ ‫آ‬ َ‫يا‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫و‬
And O Last of those who are last!
wa ya a-khiral-a-khirin
ِّ‫فحر للَي‬

O Allah, forgive me those sins which
tear apart modesty!
allahumma-igh-fir liyadh-dhunubal-lati tah-

tikulìsam

O Allah forgive me those sins which
cut down the hopes!

draw down tribulation!

‫طيِئةَل‬ ‫خ ل‬ ‫م‬
‫ولكل ل‬ ‫ه‬

O Allah, forgive me every sin I have
‫ل‬
َ‫خطأْت هلها‬ ‫أ ح‬
committed and every mistake I have
made!
allahumma-igh-fir liya kul-la dham-bin
adhnabtuhu wa kul-la khati-atin akh-
tatuha
‫ل‬
‫ب‬
‫قمر ه‬
‫م إ للنيِّ أت ل ل‬
‫ه م‬ ‫ه‬ ‫م‬ ‫ل‬ َ‫ال‬
‫ك ب لذ لك حرلكل‬ ‫إ للَ ليِ ح ل‬
O Allah, verily I seek nearness to You
through remembrance of You,
allahumma inni ataqarrabu ilayka bi-dhik-

rik
‫ل‬
‫ل‬ ‫فع ه ب ل ل‬
ِّ‫ك إ للَي‬ ‫ش ل‬ ‫ست ل ح‬
‫ل ح‬ ‫أ‬ ‫و‬
‫س ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫ف ل‬ ‫نل ح‬
And I seek intercession from You with
Yourself,
wa as-tash-fiu' bika ila naf-sik

‫جود لكل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ل‬

‫من‬ ‫ل‬
‫أن ت هدَّ حن ليِ للنيِّ ل‬
‫قهحرب ل ل‬

And I ask You through Your
munificence to bring me near to Your
proximity,
wa as-aluka bi-judika an tud-ni-yani min
qur-bik
‫ل‬
ِّ‫ولأن هتوزلع للني‬

‫شك حلركل‬ ‫ه‬
And to bestow upon me (the ability to)
thank you,
wa an tuziàni shuk-rak
‫ل‬
ِّ‫ملني‬
‫ل ل‬ ‫ه‬‫ح‬ ‫ل‬‫ه‬ ‫ت‬ ‫أن‬ ‫ل‬ ‫و‬
‫ذ لك حلركل‬
And to inspire me with Your
remembrance.
wa an tul-himani dhik-rak
‫م إ للنيِّ أ ح‬‫ه م‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ل‬ َ‫ال‬
‫ضع‬ ‫خاَ ل‬ ‫ؤا ل‬

‫ل ل‬ ‫س ل‬‫ه‬
‫شع‬ ‫خاَ ل‬ ‫ل‬
‫مت لذ للَل ل‬ ‫ل‬
O Allah, verily I ask You with the
asking of a submissive, abased and
lowly man
allahumma in-ni as-luka suala khadii'm-
mutadhal-lilin kha-shii'n
‫ل‬
ِّ‫حلني‬
‫م ل‬‫ساَ ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ت‬ ‫أن‬
ِّ‫ملني‬ ‫ح‬
‫ل‬
‫ل ح ل‬ ‫ر‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ت‬ ‫و‬
to show me forbearance, to have
mercy on me
an tusamihani wa tar-hamani
‫ل ل‬ ‫ل‬
‫ا‬ ‫ا‬
ِّ‫ً وللفي‬،َ‫ضيِاَ لقاَلنعا‬ ‫لرا ل‬

‫حوللال‬ ‫ل‬
‫ميِلع ال ح‬ ‫ج ل‬‫ل‬
And to make me satisfied and content
‫ضعاَ ا‬ ‫وا ل‬
‫مت لل‬
‫ه‬
with Your appointment and [make
me] humble in every state.
wa taj-àlani bi-qasamika radiyan qani`n wa
fi jamii'l-ah-wali mutawadiàa
‫م ولأ ح‬ ‫ه م‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ل‬ َ‫ال‬
‫ن‬‫ل‬ ‫م‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬
‫ؤا‬ ‫س‬
‫ه‬
‫ت لفاَقلت هه‬
‫ه‬ ‫ح‬ ‫م‬ َّ‫د‬
‫ل‬ ‫ت‬
O Allah, I ask You the question of one
whose poverty is intense, ‫ح‬
‫ش‬ ‫ا‬
allahumma wa as-aluka suala manish-tad-
dat faqatuh
‫ل‬
َّ‫د‬
‫ل لح‬‫ن‬ ‫ع‬ ‫ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫ل لب‬ ‫ولأنلز ل‬
‫ه‬
‫جت هل‬‫حاَ ل‬
‫دَّائ لدَّ ل ل‬
‫ش ل‬‫الَ م‬
who presents his need only to You,
wa anzala bika i'ndash-shada-idi hajatahu

َ‫ما‬‫ل‬ ِ‫في‬‫ل‬ ‫م‬

‫ل‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ظ‬‫ل‬ ‫ع‬‫ل‬ ‫و‬
‫ه‬ َ‫ب‬‫ح‬
‫عن حدَّ ل ل ل هه‬
‫ت‬ ‫غ‬ ‫ر‬ ‫ل‬
‫ك‬
and whose desire is great for what
‫ل‬
(only) You have.
wa àzuma fima i'ndaka ragh-batuhu

‫م‬
‫ل‬

O Allah, Great is Your authority,
exalted is Your place,
allahumma àzuma sul-tanuka wa àla

makanuk
‫مك حهركل‬
‫ل‬ ِّ‫في‬
‫ل‬ ‫خ‬‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫و‬
‫مهركل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫أ‬ ‫ر‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ظ‬ ‫و‬
‫ل ل ل ح‬
And unknown is Your plan,
clear is Your command,
wa khafiya mak-ruka wazahara am-ruk

‫قلهحهر ل‬
‫ك‬ ْ‫ب‬ ‫ل‬
‫ولغ ل‬‫ل‬‫ل‬
‫قهدَّ حلرت ه ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫ت‬ ‫ر‬
‫ل ل ح‬ ‫ج‬
‫ل‬ ‫و‬
And Your domination is overwhelming,
Your power is unhindered
wa ghalaba qah-ruka wa jarat qud-ratuk

‫فلراهر‬ ‫ح‬
‫ن الَ ل‬ ‫ل‬
‫ح ه‬ ‫ك‬ ‫م‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ول‬‫ل‬
‫مت لكل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ه‬
‫كو‬ ‫ح‬
‫ه‬ ‫ن‬
‫ل ح‬ ‫م‬
And escape from Your judgement is
impossible.
wa-la yum-kinul-firaru min huku-matik

‫ل‬
‫جدَّ ه‬
‫ل‬ ‫أ‬ ‫ل‬ ‫م‬
‫ه م‬ ‫ه‬‫م‬ ‫ل‬َ‫ال‬
‫غاَلفرا ا‬ ‫لَ لذ ههنولبيِّ ل‬
O Allah, I find no forgiver of my sins,
allahumma la ajidu lidhunubi ghafira

ِّ‫حي‬
‫قلبَاَئ ل ل‬
‫مول لَ ل ل‬
‫ساَلترا ا‬ ‫ل‬
Nor concealer of my ugly acts
wa-la liqaba-ihi satira

‫ح‬

Nor transformer of any of my ugly acts

‫غ ليِ حلركل‬
into good acts but You
wa-la lishayim-min àmali-yal-qabihi bil-

hasani mubad-dilan ghayrak
‫ل‬
‫ت‬‫ل‬ ‫أن‬ ‫م‬ ‫ل‬ ‫إ‬

‫ل ل ل‬‫ه‬‫ل‬ َ‫ل‬ ‫إ‬ ‫ل‬
‫مدَّ ل ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫ح‬
‫ل‬
‫لل ح‬ ‫ب‬ ‫و‬ ‫ل‬

There is no god but You!

Glory and praise be to You!
la ilaha il-la anta sub-hanaka wa biham-dika

I have wronged myself,
zalam-tu naf-si
ِّ‫جهحللي‬ ‫ح‬
‫ت بل ل‬ ‫أ‬
‫ل م ه‬ ‫ر‬ ‫ج‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ت‬‫و‬
And I have been audacious in my
ignorance
wa tajar-ratu bijah-li

ِّ‫ت إ للَي‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ل‬
‫كن‬ ‫س‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫و‬ ‫كدعُاكء ككمُيل‬
‫ل‬ ‫ح‬
ِّ‫دَّيم ل ذ لكرلك للَي‬ ‫قل ل‬
ِّ‫ي‬‫م‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬‫ل‬ ‫ع‬ ‫ل‬

And I have depended upon Your
‫ن‬ ‫م‬
‫ل ل‬
eternal remembrance of me and Your ‫و‬

‫ه‬ ‫ت‬ ‫ر‬

‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ق‬ ‫من‬ ‫ل‬
O Allah! O my Protector! How many
ugly (deeds) You have concealed!
allahumma maw-lay kam-min qabihin satar-

‫ل ل‬ ‫اَدح‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ف‬ ‫من‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬
‫كم‬ ‫ل‬ ‫و‬

‫الَلبَللءْ أق هل‬
‫ت‬ ‫ل‬
And how many heavy misfortunes You
have lifted!
wa kam-min fadihim-minal-bala-i aqal-tah

‫عثاَر‬
‫ن ل‬ ‫ل ح‬ ‫م‬ ‫ل‬
‫كم‬ ‫ل‬ ‫و‬
‫ه‬
‫ومق ح هل‬
‫ت‬ ِ‫ي‬‫ل‬
And how many stumbles You have
prevented!
wa kam-min i'thariw-waqaytah
‫ح‬
‫مكهروه‬‫م‬ ‫من‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬
‫كم‬ ‫ل‬ ‫و‬
‫ه‬ ‫ت‬ ‫ع‬‫ل‬
‫د لف ح هل‬
And how many ordeals You have
repelled!
wa kam-mim-mak-ruhin dafa`tah

How many graceful praises, which I
am not worthy of, You have spread!
wa kam-min thana-in jamilil-las-tu ah-lal-

lahu nashar-tah
ِّ‫م لبللئي‬
‫ل‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ظ‬‫ل‬ ‫ع‬ ‫م‬
‫ه م‬ ‫ه‬‫م‬ ‫ل‬ َ‫ال‬
O Allah, my tribulation is tremendous,
allahumma àzuma balai

‫ل‬
ْ‫سوهء‬
‫ه‬ ِّ‫بي‬
‫ل‬ ‫ط‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ر‬‫ح‬
‫ل ل‬‫ف‬ ‫أ‬ ‫و‬
ِّ‫حلاَلَي‬
‫ل‬
And my bad state is excessive,
wa af-rata bi suo-u hali

ِّ‫ت لبي‬ ‫ر‬

‫ل ه ل ح‬ ‫ص‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ق‬‫و‬
ِّ‫ملاَلَي‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ع‬‫ل‬ ‫أ‬
‫ل‬
And my acts are inadequate,
wa qasurat bi a`mali
ِّ‫ت لبي‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ل‬ َّ‫د‬‫ل‬ ‫ع‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ق‬‫ل‬ ‫و‬

ِّ‫أغ حل لللَي‬ ‫ل‬
And my chains have tied me down,
wa qaàdat bi agh-la-li
‫عن‬ ‫سلنيِّ ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ َ‫ب‬ ‫ح‬

‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫و‬
ِّ‫ملاَلَي‬‫ل‬ ‫آ‬ ‫ه‬ َّ‫د‬‫ح‬ ‫ع‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ب‬ ِّ‫عي‬
And my desires have withheld me from
‫ل‬ ‫ف‬
‫ح‬ ‫م‬ ‫ن‬
my (own advantages).
wa habasani àn-naf-e'e buà-du a-ma-li

َ‫خدَّ لع لت حلنيِّ الَدَّ لن حليِا‬

‫ول ل‬
َ‫ها‬
‫ب لغُههرورل ل‬
And this world with its delusions,
wa khadaàt-nid-dunya bi-ghururi-ha
َ‫جلناَي لت للها‬
‫ل ل‬ ‫ب‬ ِّ‫سي‬‫ل‬ ‫ف‬
‫ح‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ن‬‫ل‬ ‫و‬
‫ل‬
ِّ‫مطلاَلَي‬ ‫ول ل‬
my own soul with its offences and my
delay have deceived me.
wa naf-si bi-jinayatiha wa mita-li

‫ل‬
‫سأْلَ هكل‬
‫ح‬ ْ‫أ‬‫ل‬ ‫ف‬ ِ‫دَّي‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ِ‫ي‬ ‫س‬ َ‫يا‬
‫ل ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫ب لعلمزت ل ل‬
O my Master! So I ask You by Your
might
ya say-yidi fa-as-aluka bi-i'z-zatika

not to let my ugly deeds and acts
conceal my supplication from You,
an la yah-juba àn-ka duàa-i suo-u àmali

not to disgrace me by exposing what‫ل‬ ‫ل‬
is secret of my (acts), which (only)‫ل‬ ‫ع‬
You are aware of,
wa-la taf-dah-ni bi-khafi-yi mat-tala`ta
àilayhi min sir-ri
‫ل هل ل ل‬
‫ل‬ ‫ح‬
َ‫ما‬
‫ل‬ َ‫لى‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ع‬ ‫ل‬ َ‫ة‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ب‬ ‫قو‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ع‬ َ‫ل‬ َ‫با‬
‫ل‬
ِّ‫ه لفي‬ ‫ملت هه‬ ‫ح‬ ‫عل ل‬
And not to hasten me to punishment
ِّ‫والتي‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫خ‬‫ل‬

for what I have done in private:

wa-la tuàjil-ni bil-u'qubati àla ma àmil-
tuhu fi khalawati
ِّ‫سولءْ فلعحللي‬ ‫ن‬

‫ل ح ه‬ ‫م‬
ً،ِّ‫ساَلءْلتي‬ ‫إ‬
‫لل ل‬ ‫و‬
such as, my ugly deeds, my offenses,
min suo-i fià-li wa isa-ati

ِّ‫طي‬
‫ري ل‬‫ل‬ ‫ف‬
‫ح‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ت‬ ‫م‬ ‫وا‬
‫ل ل ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫د‬‫و‬
‫ل‬
ِّ‫جلهاَلَلتي‬ ‫ول ل‬
my continuous negligence, my
ignorance,
wa dawami taf-riti wa jahalati

ِّ‫والتي‬
‫ل ل‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ش‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ة‬ ‫ر‬‫ح‬
‫ل ل‬‫ث‬‫ل‬ ‫ك‬‫و‬
‫ل‬
ِّ‫فللتي‬ ‫ولغ ل ح‬
And my manifold passions and my
forgetfulness.
wa kath-rati sha-hawati wa ghaf-lati

‫م ب لعلمزت لكل‬‫ه م‬ ‫ه‬‫م‬ ‫ل‬ َ‫ال‬ ‫ن‬‫ه‬ ‫ك‬‫و‬
‫ل ل‬
‫للَيِّ لفيِّ ك هلل‬

‫ؤوفاَ ا‬‫حوللال لر ه‬ ‫ل‬
‫ال ح‬
And by Your might, O Allah, be
compassionate to me in all
circumstances,
wa kunil-lahumma bi-i'z-zatika li fi kul-lil-ah-
wali ra’ufa
‫ميِلع‬‫ج ل‬
‫يِّ لفيِّ ل‬
‫م‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬‫ل‬ ‫ع‬ ‫م‬ ‫و‬
‫طوفاَ ا‬‫مورل ع ل ه‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ا‬
‫ه‬
And be gracious to me in all affairs!
wa àlay-ya fi jamii'l-umuri àtufa

‫هه‬ َ‫ل‬ ْ‫سأ‬ ‫ل‬ ‫أ‬ ‫ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫ر‬ ِ‫ي‬ ‫ل‬ ‫غ‬ ‫ل‬
ِّ‫لَي‬
‫ه‬

My God and my Lord! Whom can I ask
beside You, to remove my affliction,
!ِ‫ري‬ ‫م‬ ‫ل‬

and to look into my affairs?

ilahi wa rab-bi mal-li ghayruka as-aluhu
kash-fa dur-ri wan-nazara fi am-ri!

My God and my Protector! You have
‫ا‬ َ‫ا‬ ‫كم‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ح‬
‫ه‬
ً،ِّ‫سي‬ ‫ف ل‬ ‫وىَ ن ل ح‬
laid on me rules (to follow), but I
followed my own whims.
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ه‬
ilahi wa maw-laya aj-rayta àlay-ya huk-
mant-taba`tu fihi hawa naf-si
‫ل‬
‫س لفيِهل‬ ‫ل ح‬ ‫ر‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ت‬ ‫ح‬

‫ح‬ ‫أ‬ ‫م‬ ‫ل‬
‫ل ح‬ َ‫ل‬ ‫و‬
ً،ِ‫ن ع لدَّ هلوي‬
‫ل‬ ِ‫زيي‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ت‬ ‫من‬
And I did not remain wary of adorning
‫ل‬
my enemy.
wa lam ah-taris fihi min tazyini àdu-wi

َ‫وى‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ل‬ ‫أ‬ َ‫ما‬ ‫ب‬ ِّ‫ني‬‫ل‬ ‫ر‬ ‫ل‬ ُ‫غ‬‫ل‬ ‫ف‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل ل‬ ‫م‬
‫ل‬
َ‫سعلدَّ له ه ع للى‬ ‫ل‬
‫ولأ ح‬
ْ‫ضاَهء‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ق‬
‫ل‬ َ‫ال‬ ‫ك‬‫ل‬ ‫ذ للَ ل‬
Therefore, he was (able to) deceive me
through my desires, and destiny
favoured him in this (matter).
fa-ghar-rani bi-ma ah-wa wa as-àdahu àla
dha-likal-qada
‫ل ل لح ه ل ل‬
‫ن‬
‫ح‬ ‫م‬
‫ل‬ ِّ‫ي‬
‫م‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ع‬ َ‫رى‬ ‫ج‬
‫ل ل‬
‫ض‬
‫ل‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ع‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ب‬ ‫ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫ل‬ َ‫ل‬‫ل‬
Thus I exceeded Your limits by
‫ذ‬
‫دَّود لكل‬ ‫ح ه‬‫ه‬
violation of Your rules,
fa-taja-waztu bi-ma jara àlay-ya min dha-

lika ba`da hududik
‫ض‬
‫ل‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ع‬‫ل‬ ‫ب‬ ‫ت‬
‫ه‬ ‫ف‬
‫ح‬ ‫ل‬ َ‫ل‬ َ‫خا‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫و‬
‫مر ل ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫ل‬
‫ألوا ل‬
and disobeyed some of Your
commands.
wa khalaf-tu ba`da awamirik

ِّ‫ي‬
‫م‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬‫ل‬ ‫ع‬ َ‫ة‬
‫ه‬ ‫ج‬
‫م‬ ‫ح‬
‫ه‬ ‫ح‬ َ‫ل‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬‫ل‬ ‫ف‬
‫ميِلع ذ للَ ل ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫ج ل‬‫لفيِّ ل‬
Therefore, Yours is the argument
against me in all of that,
falakal-huj-jatu àlay-ya fi jamii' dhalik

and I have no argument (regarding)
Your judgement against me,
wa-la huj-jata li fima jara àlay-ya fihi

‫مكل‬ ‫ملنيِّ ه‬‫ل‬ ‫ز‬
‫ل‬ ‫ح‬ َ‫ل‬ ‫أ‬‫ل‬ ‫و‬
‫وللبلؤ ه ل‬

nor in what Your decree and Your
tribulation imposed upon me.
wa alzamani huk-muka wa balauk

immoderation toward myself,

is-rafi àla naf-si
‫ًا‬،َ‫ذرا ا مناَلدما‬
‫معحت ل ل‬
‫ه‬
Proffering my excuse, regretful,
muà-tadhiran-nadiman
‫قيِل ا‬
‫ست ل ل‬
‫م ح‬
‫ل‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ا‬ ‫سر‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ك‬‫ح‬ ‫ن‬ ‫م‬
‫ل‬
Broken, apologizing,
mun-kasiram-mus-taqilama
‫ًا‬،َ‫ملنيِبَا‬
‫ل‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ا‬ ‫فر‬
‫ل‬ ‫ح‬ ُ‫غ‬‫ل‬ ‫ت‬ ‫س‬
‫ح‬ ‫م‬
‫ل‬
Asking forgiveness, repenting,
mus-tagh-firam-muniban
‫عناَ ا‬
‫مذ ح ل‬ ‫ا‬
‫ل ر ل‬ ‫ا‬‫ر‬ ‫ق‬
‫ل‬ ‫م‬
‫رفاَ ا‬
‫معحت لل‬ ‫ل‬
Acknowledging, submissive,
confessing.
muqir-ram-mudhi'nam-muà-tarifa

َ‫ما‬ ‫م‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ر‬

‫ل ل ر ل م‬ ‫ف‬
‫ل‬ ‫م‬ ‫ه‬ َّ‫د‬ ‫ج‬ ‫أ‬ ‫ل‬
ِّ‫ملني‬‫ن ل‬ ‫كاَ ل‬ ‫ل‬
I find no place to flee from what
occurred through me,
la ajidu mafar-ram-mim-ma kana min-ni

‫ل‬
‫ه‬ ‫ج‬
‫م‬
‫ل ه‬ ‫و‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ت‬ ‫أ‬ ‫ا‬ َ‫ا‬ ‫زع‬‫ل‬ ‫ف‬
‫ح‬ ‫م‬
‫ل ل‬ ‫ول‬
ِ‫ري‬ ‫م‬ ‫ل‬ ‫أ‬ ِّ‫في‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ل‬
ِ‫ي‬ َ‫ل‬ ‫إ‬
‫ح ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ح‬
Nor any place of escape to which I‫ل‬
may turn in my affairs,
wa-la mafza'an atawaj-jahu ilayhi fi am-ri

Other than Your acceptance of my
‫مت لكل‬ ‫ح‬

‫ح‬ ‫ر‬
excuse and Your entering me into the
‫م ل‬
compass of Your mercy.
ghayra qabulika u'dhri wa id-khalika i-yaya
fi sa'tim-mir-rah-matik
‫ح‬ ‫ل‬
‫م فاَقلبَل‬ ‫ه م‬ ‫ه‬‫م‬ ‫ل‬ َ‫ال‬
ِ‫ع هذ حلري‬
O Allah, so accept my excuse,
allahumma faq-bal u'dhri

‫شدَّ مة ل‬
‫م ل‬ ‫ح‬
‫ل‬
‫ل ح ح‬‫ر‬ ‫وا‬
ِ‫ضلري‬
‫ه‬
Have mercy upon the severity of my
affliction
war-ham shid-data duri

‫ل‬ َّ‫د‬ ‫ل‬

‫ش‬ ‫من‬‫ل‬ ِّ‫ني‬ ‫ل‬ ‫م‬ ‫ك‬‫ه‬ ‫ولف‬
ِّ‫وللثاَلقي‬
And release me from the tightness of
my fetters,
wa fuk-kani min shad-di wathaqi

‫ل ل ل ح ل ح‬
‫ف ب لدَّ للنيِّ ولرلقم ل‬

َ‫ة‬ ‫ضعح ل‬‫ل‬
َ‫ة‬‫م‬
‫دَّيِ ولد لق ل‬ ‫ح‬
‫جل ل‬ ‫ل‬
My Lord, have mercy upon the
ِّ‫مي‬ ‫ح‬
‫ع لظ ل‬
weakness of my body, the thinness of
my skin and the frailty of my bones.
ya rab-bir-ham da`fa badani wa riq-qata jil-
di wa diq-qata àzmi
‫ل‬
ِّ‫قي‬ ‫ح‬
‫خل ل‬‫ن ب لدَّ لأ ل‬ ‫م‬ َ‫يا‬
‫ل ل ح‬
ِ‫ري‬ ‫ح‬
‫ل ل‬‫ك‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ذ‬‫و‬
O You who gave rise to my creation, to
the remembrance of me,
ya mam bada khal-qi wa dhik-ri

ِ‫ولت لحرب ليِ للتيِّ ولب للري‬

ِّ‫ولت لغُحذ لي للتي‬
to the nurture of me, to goodness
toward me and to nourishment on
me,
wa tar-bi-yati wa biri wa tagh-dhi-yati
‫دَّاءْل‬

‫هلبَ حلنيِّ لب حت ل ل‬ ‫كدعُاكء ككمُيل‬
‫ف‬
‫سلاَلَ ل‬‫مك و ل ل‬‫ل‬ ‫كلر ل‬ ‫ل‬

Bestow upon me for the sake of Your
having given rise [to me] with
generosity and Your previous
goodness to me!

O Allah, my Master and my Lord!
ya ilahi wa say-yidi wa rab-bi

And after the sincerity of my

humble before Your lordship?
wa ba`da sid-qi-à-tirafi wa duàa-i
khadiàal-li-rububi-yatika

Far be it from You! You are too
generous to abandon one whom You
have nurtured,
hayhata anta ak-ramu min an tuday-yià
mar-rab-baytah

or to push away from (Your mercy) one
whom You have (already) brought

or to drive away one whom You have
given shelter,

how You could impose fire on faces,

magnificence,
atusal-litun-nara àla wujuhin khar-rat li-
àzamatika sajidah

and on tongues which have already

sadiqataw-wa bishuk-rika madihah

‫ل ح‬ ‫م‬

and beckoned for Your forgiveness in
submission
wa asharat bis-tigh-farika mudhi'nah

O All-generous! My Lord,

You know my weakness (to endure) a
small portion of worldly misfortune,
its punishments and difficulties,
wa anta ta`lamu da`fi àn qalilim-min bala-
id-dun-ya wa u'qubatiha

And before those ordeals which befall
its inhabitants,
wa ma yaj-ri fiha minal-makarihi àla ah-liha

even though it is a misfortune and
difficulty, whose stay is short,

qalilum-mak-thuhu,

‫ه‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ؤ‬ َ‫قا‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ب‬ ‫ر‬ْ‫ء‬ ِ‫سي‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ي‬
‫ه‬
‫ق ل ءْ ل م هه‬
‫ت‬ َّ‫د‬ ‫م‬ ‫ر‬
whose subsistence is little, and whose
ِ‫صي‬ ‫ل‬
duration is short
yasirum baqa-uhu, qasirum-mud-datuh

How then can I bear the misfortune of

!َ‫مكاَرلهل لفيِلها‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ح‬ َ‫ل‬
the hereafter, and the occurrence of
difficulties within it? ‫ا‬
fa-kayfah-timali li-bala-il-akhirati wa jalili
wuqui'l-makarihi fiha!

yadumu maqamuhu, wa-la yukhaf-fafu àn
ah-lih

Since it only occurs as a result of Your

wrath, Your vengeance and Your

li-an-nahu la yakunu il-la àn ghadabika
wan-tiqamika wa sakhatik

wretched and miserable slave.

wa ana àbukad-dae'efudh-dhalilul-haqirul-
mis-kinul-mus-takin

ِّ‫لياَ إ للَلهيِّ وللرلبي‬
‫ل ل ح‬ ‫و‬ ِ‫دَّي‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ِ‫ي‬ ‫س‬
‫ل ل‬ ‫و‬
My God! My Lord! My Master! My
Protector!
ya ilahi wa rab-bi wa say-yidi wa maw-lay

‫مورل إ للَ ليِ حكل‬

‫ه‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ل‬ ِ‫ي‬ ‫ل‬
‫شكوه‬ ‫أ ح‬‫ل‬
For which things would I complain to
You?
li-ay-yil-umuri ilayka ash-ku

‫ض ل‬
‫من حلهاَ أ ل‬‫ماَ ل‬
‫وللَ لل‬
ِّ‫كي‬ ‫ل‬
‫ولأب ح ل‬
And for which of them would I lament
and weep?
wa lima minha adij-ju wa ab-ki

For the pain and severity of
chastisement?
li-alimil-àdhabi wa shid-datih

ْ‫ل الَلبَللء‬‫ل‬ ‫طو‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ل‬ َ‫ل‬ ‫م‬
‫ح‬ ‫أ‬

‫مدَّ مت ل ل‬

Or for the length and period of
tribulation?
am litulil-bala-i wa mud-datih
ِّ‫صيِ محرت للني‬

Therefore, if You take me to the
punishment with Your enemies,
fa-la-in say-yar-tani lil-u'qubati ma' a`da-ik

‫ل ل ل‬ ‫ع‬ ‫م‬ ‫ج‬
‫ل‬ ‫و‬
‫ل لبلئ ل ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ل‬ ‫أ‬ ‫ن‬ ِ‫ي‬ ‫ب‬ ‫و‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل ل‬‫ح‬
And gather me with the people of Your ‫ل‬
misfortunes,
wa jama`ta bayni wa bayna ahli bala-ik

and separate me from those who love‫ل‬

You and those who adore You,
wa far-raq-ta bay-ni wa bay-na ahib-ba-ika

wa aw-li-ya-ik

Protector and my Lord that I am able
to endure Your chastisement,
fa-hab-ni ya ilahi wasay-yidi wa mawlaya
wa rab-bi sabar-tu àla àdhabika
‫ل‬
‫ل‬
َ‫صبَ لهر ع للى‬
‫ح‬ ‫أ‬ ‫ف‬
‫ل‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ل‬
ِ‫ي‬ ‫ك‬‫ل‬ ‫ف‬
‫ك‬‫فللراقل ل‬
How can I endure separation from
You?
fakayfa as-biru àla firaqika

‫ت‬ ‫ر‬‫ل‬
‫ل ح ه‬َ‫ب‬ ‫ص‬ ِّ‫ني‬
‫ل‬ ‫ح‬ َ‫ب‬‫ل‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ل‬ ‫و‬

And suppose that I am able to endure
the heat of Your fire,
wa hab-ni sabar-tu àla har-ri narika

‫ن‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ع‬ ‫ر‬ َ‫ب‬ ‫ص‬ ‫ل‬ ‫أ‬ ‫ف‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬

I will cry out to You from among the
inhabitants (of Hell) like those who
cry out of hope,
ladij-jan-na ilayka bayna ah-liha dajijal-
amilin
‫ن إ لللَيِكل‬ ‫خ‬
‫ل‬ ‫ر‬ ‫ص‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫و‬
‫ل ح ه م‬
‫صلرا ل‬
‫خ‬ ‫ه‬
‫ن‬
‫ل‬ ِ‫خي‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ر‬ ‫ص‬ ‫ل‬
‫ه ح ح ل‬ ‫ت‬ ‫س‬ ‫م‬ َ‫ال‬
I will scream like those who scream
(for help),
wa lasrukhan-na ilayka surakhal-mus-tas-

rikhin
‫ل‬
‫ن ع لل ليِ حكل‬ ‫م‬ ‫ل‬ ِ‫ي‬

‫ل‬ ‫ك‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ب‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫و‬
‫ن‬‫ل‬ ‫دَّي‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ق‬ َ‫فا‬
‫ل‬ َ‫ال‬ ‫ل‬ ْ‫ء‬
I will weep like those who have lost

hope,
wa-la-ab-ki-yan-na àilayka buka-al-faqidin

‫ن‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ل‬ ‫أ‬ ‫ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ي‬ ‫د‬ َ‫نا‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ل‬ ‫و‬

“Where are You, O the Protector of

wa la-unadi-yan-naka ay-na kun-ta ya wali-
yal-mu-minin

‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ل‬
َ‫غا‬ َ‫يا‬
‫ل‬
‫ن‬
‫ل ل‬ ِ‫في‬
‫ل‬ ‫ر‬ َ‫عا‬

O Goal of the hopes of those who
know (You)!
ya ghayata a-malil-àrifin

‫ن‬
‫ل‬ ِ‫ثي‬
‫ل‬ ِ‫غُي‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ت‬ ‫س‬ ‫م‬

O the Helper of those who appeal for
help!

‫ل‬ ‫ح‬

O the Beloved of the sincere!
ya habiba qulubis-sadiqin

‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ َ‫ل‬ َ‫عا‬
‫ل‬ َ‫ال‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ل‬ َ‫ل‬
‫ل ل ل‬ ‫إ‬ َ‫يا‬
‫ل‬ ‫و‬
And O God of all the world's
inhabitants!
wa ya ilhal-àlamin

ً،‫ك‬ ‫را‬‫أف له‬‫ت‬ ‫ل‬

Can You see Yourself, Glory be to You,
O my God, and Yours is the praise,
afaturaka sub-hanaka ya ilahi wa biham-

‫ل‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ع‬ ‫م‬ ‫س‬

hearing within the fire, the voice of a
submissive servant,
tas-mau' fiha saw-ta àb-dim-mus-limin

‫فت لهل‬ ‫ل‬
‫خاَلَ ل‬
‫م ل‬
‫ل ه‬ ‫ب‬
who is imprisoned within (the fire)
because of his disobedience,
sujina fiha bi-mukhalafatih

‫م عل ل‬
َ‫ذاب للها‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ع‬‫ل‬ ‫ط‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ق‬ ‫ل‬
‫ذا‬ ‫ل‬ ‫و‬
‫صيِ لت لهل‬‫مع ح ل‬ ‫ل ل‬ ‫ب‬
tasting the flavour of its punishments
for his resistance,
wa dhaqa ta`ma àdhabiha bi-ma`si-yatih

Hell) for his sins and crimes,

‫ل ل ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ب‬ ‫ك‬‫ل‬ ‫دي‬ ‫ل‬ َ‫نا‬‫ل‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ي‬‫ل‬ ‫و‬
‫حيِدَّ ل ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫ل ت لوح ل‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ل‬ ‫أ‬
‫ل‬
calls You with the tongue of those who
profess Your unity,
wa yunadika bi-lisani ahli taw-hidik

‫ل إلَ ليِ حكل‬

‫س ه‬ ‫و‬
‫ل ل م‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ت‬‫ل‬ ‫ي‬‫و‬
‫ب لهرهبوب ليِ مت ل ل‬

and requests You by Your lordship!
wa yatawas-salu ilayka bi-rububi-yatik

‫وليِ فلكيِ ح ل‬
‫ف‬ ‫م‬
‫ل ل ح‬ َ‫يا‬
‫ب‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬
‫ذا‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ع‬‫ح‬ َ‫ل‬ ‫ا‬ ِّ‫في‬
‫ل‬ َ‫قى‬
‫ل‬ َ‫يب‬
‫ل‬
O my Protector! Then how (can Your
servant) remain in pain,
ya mawlay fa-kayfa yabqa fil-àdhabi

while he has hope for Your past
leniency?

am kayfa tu-limuhun-naru wa huwa ya-malu
fadlaka wa rah-mataka
‫ح ح ل ه ح ل ه‬

‫ح ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ت‬ ‫ت‬ ‫أن‬
‫ل ل ل ل‬ ‫و‬ َ‫ها‬‫ه‬ َ‫ب‬ ِ‫هي‬‫ل‬ َ‫ل‬
َ‫ه ولت للرى‬ ‫صوحت هل‬‫ل‬
Or how can the fire hurt him, while You
‫ه‬ ‫ل‬
‫مكاَن هل‬
hear his voice and see his place?

am kayfa yuh-riquhu lahibuha wa anta tas-
mau' saw-tahu wa tara makanah
‫مله‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬
‫ف ي لشت ل ل‬

weakness?

anta ta`lamu da`fah

‫ت‬ ‫ل‬

Or how can he be immersed in its

anta ta`lamu sid-qah

Or how should he have hope of Your

grace in freeing him from the fire ‫ل ل‬‫ح‬ ‫ن‬ ‫م‬
while You abandon him within it?
am kayfa yar-ju fadlaka fi i't-qihi minha
fatat-rukuhu fiha
‫ماَ ذ للَ ل ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫ت‬ َ‫ها‬
‫ل ل ل ل‬ ِ‫هي‬
‫ن ب لكل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫م‬ ‫ظ‬ َ‫ال‬
Far be it from You! That is not what is
expected of You,
hayhat ma dhalikaz-zan-nu bik

‫معحهرو ه‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ح‬ َ‫ل‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ول‬
‫ل‬
‫ك‬‫ضل ل ل‬ ‫ل‬

Nor what is well-known of Your bounty,
wa-lal-ma`rufu min fadlik

nor is it similar to the kindness and

‫ب للرك ولإ ل ح‬
generosity with which You have
treated the believers in Your unity.
wa-la mush-biha lima àmal-ta bihil-muah-
hidina mim bir-rika wa ih-sanik
‫ه‬

Therefore, I am certain that had You
‫دَّيكل‬ ‫ح ل‬ ‫جاَ ل‬ ‫ل‬

not decreed punishment for the
disbelievers in You,
fa-bial-yaqini aq-tau' law-la ma hakam-ta
bihi min ta`dhibi jahidik
‫ن‬
‫ح‬ ‫م‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ب‬
‫ل ل‬ ‫ت‬ ‫ح‬ ِ‫ي‬ ‫ض‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ق‬‫ل‬ ‫و‬
‫دَّي ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫خل ل ه ل ل ل‬
‫ن‬ َ‫عا‬ ‫م‬ ‫د‬ ‫ل‬ ‫إل ح‬
and to leave the opposers (in the fire)
that lasts forever,
wa qadayta bihi min ikh-laydi muànidik

‫م‬ ‫ه‬
َ‫ت الَمناَلر كللها‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ع‬ ‫ج‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ َ‫ل‬
‫ًا‬،َ‫لما‬
‫س ل‬
‫م ل‬ ‫و‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ا‬‫رد‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ل‬
then You would have made the fire
‫ب‬
totally cold and peaceful,
laja'l-tan-nara kul-laha bar-daw-wa salama

‫ل‬
َ‫حدَّ لفيِلها‬‫نل ل‬ ‫ل‬

‫ماَ كاَ ل‬ ‫ل ل‬ ‫و‬
‫قاَماَ ا‬
‫م ل‬ ‫ول‬
‫ل ر م ه‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ا‬‫ر‬ ‫ق‬
‫ل‬ ‫م‬
and no one would have any place in it,
neither permanently, nor even for a
short time.
wa ma kana li-ahadin fiha maqar-raw-wa-la
muqama
‫ت‬
‫ل ح‬ ‫س‬ ‫م‬ َّ‫د‬ ‫ق‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ت‬ ‫ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫م‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ك‬‫م‬ َ‫ل‬
‫ت‬ ‫م‬ ‫س‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ق‬ ‫ل‬ ‫أ‬ ‫ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ؤ‬ َ‫ما‬ ‫س‬ ‫ل‬ ‫أ‬
‫ل ح ل‬ ‫ح ل‬
But You, Holy are Your Names, have
sworn,
lakin-naka taqad-dasat as-ma-uka aq-sam-

ta
‫ل‬

that You will fill it with unbelievers

‫ل‬ ‫م‬ ‫ج‬
‫ح‬
from the jinn and humankind (alike),
‫ل ل‬ ‫أ‬
an tam-laha minal-kafirina; minal-jin-nati
wan-nasi aj-màin
‫ل‬
‫ل‬
َ‫خلدَّ ل لفيِلها‬ ‫ولأن ت ه ل‬
‫ن‬‫ل‬ ‫دَّي‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ن‬َ‫عا‬
‫ل‬ ‫م‬
‫ه‬ ‫ح‬ َ‫ل‬ ‫ا‬
and that the unbelievers will last in it
forever.
wa-an tukhal-lida fihal-muànidin

‫ل‬
‫ل ث للناَؤ ه ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫ج م‬ ‫ت ل‬‫ل ل‬ ‫أن‬ ‫و‬
‫ًا‬،َ‫دَّئا‬
‫ق ل ه حل ل‬
‫ت‬ َ‫ب‬ ‫م‬ ‫ت‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ل‬‫ه‬
And You, great is Your praise, said in
the beginning,
wa anta jal-la thana-uka qul-ta mub-

tadiwaw-
‫م‬ َ‫عا‬
‫ل‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ن‬‫ل‬ َ‫با‬
‫م ل ل ل‬ ‫ت‬ ‫ح‬ َ‫ل‬ ‫و‬‫ل‬ ‫ط‬‫ل‬ ‫ت‬‫م‬ ‫و‬
‫ل‬
‫ًا‬:َ‫مت لك للرما‬ ‫ه‬
and (by Your) generosity, extended the
grace,
wa tataw-wal-ta bil-in-àmi mutakar-rima

َ‫مانا‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ؤ‬ ‫م‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ل‬
َ‫كا‬ ‫من‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ف‬ ‫ل‬ ‫أ‬
‫ل ه ل‬

“Is he who is a believer like the one
who is not? No they cannot be alike.”

‫سأْلَك لباَلَ ه‬ ‫ف ح‬ ْ‫أ‬

َ‫الَلتيِّ قلدَّ محرت للها‬
O my Lord and my Master! I ask You,
by the power which You have
enforced,
ilahi wa say-yidi fa-as-aluka bial-qud-ratil-
lati qad-dartaha
‫م‬
ِّ‫ضيِ مةَل الَلتي‬‫ق ل‬ ‫ح‬
‫وللباَلَ ل‬
َ‫مت للها‬
‫ح‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ك‬ ‫ح‬
‫ل‬ ‫و‬ َ‫ها‬
‫ل ح ل ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ت‬ ‫م‬‫ل‬ ‫ت‬
by Your divine decree, which You have
‫ح‬
determined and imposed,
wa bil-qadi-yatil-lati hatam-taha wa hakam-

taha
‫ه‬
‫ح ل‬ ‫ل‬
ِ‫ي‬ ‫ل‬‫ل‬ ‫ع‬ ‫ن‬‫ل ل ح‬‫م‬ ‫ت‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ل‬
َ‫ب‬ ‫ل‬‫ل‬ ‫غ‬‫ل‬ ‫و‬
َ‫جلري حت للها‬ ‫ل‬
‫أ ح‬
and through which You have overcome
him toward whom it has been put
into effect,
wa ghalab-ta man àilayhi aj-raytaha
ِّ‫ً لفي‬،ِّ‫بْ للَي‬ ‫ل‬

that You forgive me in this night, and
at this moment,
an tahaba li fi hadhihil-laylati wa fi hadhihis-

sa'ah
‫ه‬ ‫ل‬ ‫م‬ ‫ه‬

‫مت هه‬ ‫ر‬
‫ل ح‬ ‫ج‬
‫ح‬ ‫أ‬ ‫رم‬
‫ح‬ ‫ج‬
‫ه‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ك‬
Every offence I have committed,
kul-la jur-min aj-ram-tuh

‫ه‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫م‬ ‫ه‬

‫ولكل ذحنبْ أذن لبَ حت هه‬
And every sin I have performed,
wa kul-la dham-bin adhnab-tuh

‫ه‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫م‬ ‫ه‬

‫سلرحرت هه‬
‫ولكل قلبَيِح أ ح‬
And every ugly thing I have concealed
wa kul-la qabihin as-rar-tuh

ً،‫ه‬ ‫ح‬
‫ملت هه‬‫جحهل ع ل ل‬ ‫م‬ ‫ه‬
‫ولكل ل‬
And every folly I have enacted
wa kul-la jah-lin àmil-tuhu,

ً،‫ه‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬

‫ه أوح أع حلنت هه‬
‫مت هه‬
‫كت حل‬
Whether I have hidden or announced
it,
katam-tuhuo aw a`lan-tuhu,
‫ه‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬

‫ه أوح أظهلحرت هه‬
‫فيِ حت هه‬
‫أخ ل‬
Or I have concealed it or manifested it
akhfaytuhuo aw azhar-tuh
‫ت‬ ‫ر‬ ‫م‬ ‫ل‬ ‫أ‬ َ‫ئة‬ ‫ل‬ ِ‫ي‬ ‫س‬ ‫م‬
‫ل‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ك‬ ‫و‬

commanded the Noble Writers to

those whom You appointed to watch
over what is done by me,
al-ladhina wak-kal-tahum bi-hif-zi ma

yakunu min-ni

and whom You made, along with my
limbs, witnesses against me,
wa ja'l-tahum shuhudan àlay-ya ma'

jawarihi
‫ت‬ ‫أن‬‫ل‬ ‫ت‬ ‫ه‬
‫كن‬ ‫و‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬
‫من‬
‫يِّ ل‬
‫م‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬‫ل‬ ‫ع‬ ْ‫ب‬
‫ل‬ ِ‫قي‬‫ل‬ ‫ر‬
‫م‬ َ‫ال‬
ً،‫م‬
‫مل ل ح‬ ‫ه‬‫ل‬ ‫ئ‬ ‫را‬ ‫و‬
And You are the Watcher over me from
behind them,
wa kunta antar-raqiba àlay-ya miw-wara-

ihim
ِّ‫في‬
‫خ ل‬
‫ماَ ل‬ ‫لوالَ م‬
‫شاَه لدَّ ل لَ لل‬
ً،‫م‬
‫ه ح‬ ‫ه‬‫ح‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ع‬
And the Witness of what is hidden
from them
wash-shahida lima khafiya àn-hum

ً،‫ه‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬

‫فيِ حت هل‬
‫خ ل‬
‫مت لك أ ح‬ ‫ح‬
‫ح‬ ‫ر‬
‫للل ل‬ ‫ب‬‫و‬
But through Your mercy You
concealed it
wa bi-rah-matika akh-faytahu
‫ه‬
‫ست لحرت هل‬ ‫ل‬
‫ضل لك ل‬
‫ف ح‬
‫لوب ل‬
And through Your bounty You veiled it.
wa bifadlika satar-tah
‫ل‬
ِّ‫حظي‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬

‫خحيِر‬ ‫ل‬
‫من كل ل‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ل‬

[And I ask You] that You bestow upon
me an abundant share of every good
You send down,
wa an tuwf-fira haz-zi min kul-li khayrin
tunziluh
‫هه‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ض‬ ‫ف‬

‫ح‬ ‫ت‬ ‫ساَن‬ ‫ح‬ ‫إ‬ ‫و‬‫ل‬ ‫أ‬
‫ه‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ح ل‬
or kindness which You confer,
aw ih-sanin tuf-diluh
ً،‫ه‬ ‫ر‬ ‫ش‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ت‬ ‫ر‬ ‫ب‬ ‫و‬‫ل‬ ‫أ‬

‫ه ه‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ح لر‬
or goodness You unfold,
aw bir-rin tan-shiruhu
‫هه‬‫ط‬ ‫س‬ َ‫ب‬ ‫ت‬ ‫زق‬ ‫ر‬ ‫و‬‫ل‬ ‫أ‬

‫ه‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ح ل‬
or provision You spread,
aw rizqin tab-sutuh
‫ه‬‫ر‬ ‫ف‬ ‫ح‬ ُ‫غ‬ ‫ت‬ ْ‫نب‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ذ‬ ‫و‬‫ل‬ ‫أ‬
‫ه ه‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ح‬
or sins You forgive,
aw dham-bin tagh-firuyhu
‫ه‬ ‫ر‬ ‫ت‬ ‫س‬ ‫ت‬ ‫ل‬

ْ‫طأ‬ ‫خ‬
‫ل‬ ‫و‬‫ل‬ ‫أ‬
‫ه ه‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ح‬
or mistakes You conceal.
aw khatain tas-turuhu

My Lord! My Lord! My Lord!
Ya rab-bi Ya rab-bi Ya rabb

My God! My Master! My Protector!
Master of my freedom!
ya ilahi wa say-yidi wa maw-laya wa malika

riq-qi
‫ن ب ليِ لدَّ لهل‬ ‫م‬

ِّ‫صيِ للتي‬ ‫لناَ ل‬
O He in whose hand is my forelock!
ya mam bi-yadihi nasi-yati

ِ‫ضلري‬ ‫ا‬
‫لياَ ع للليِماَ ب ل ه‬
‫ل‬
ِّ‫سكن للتي‬ ‫م‬
‫ل ل ح‬ ‫و‬
O He who knows my affliction and my
misery!
ya àlimam biduri wa mas-kanati

ِ‫ري‬ ‫ق‬
‫ح‬
‫ل ل‬ ‫ف‬
‫ل‬ ‫ب‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ا‬‫بَيِر‬
‫ل‬ ‫خ‬
‫ل‬
ِّ‫وللفاَقللتي‬
O He who is aware of my poverty and
indigence!
ya khabiram bi-faq-ri wa faqati

‫قكل‬
‫ح ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ه‬
‫سأْلَك ب ل ل‬ ‫ح‬ ‫أ‬
‫س ل‬

I ask You by Your Truth and Your
Holiness
as-aluka bi-haq-qika wa qud-sik

‫ل‬
‫فاَت لكل‬
‫ص ل‬ ‫ل‬
‫ولأع حظم ل ل‬
‫ك‬‫ماَئ ل ل‬ ‫س‬ ‫ل‬ ‫أ‬ ‫و‬
‫ل ح ل‬
And the greatest of Your Attributes and
Names,
wa a`zami sifatika wa as-ma-ika

‫ل‬
ِّ‫ل أوحلقاَلتي‬ ‫جع ل ل‬

That You make my times in the night
and the day inhabited by Your

remembrance,
an taj-àla aw-qati fil-layli wan-nahari bi-
dhik-rika ma`murah
‫مت ل ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫خدَّ لح‬
‫ولب ل ل‬
ً،َ‫ة‬‫ل‬
‫صولَ ا‬ ‫ل ح ه‬‫و‬ ‫م‬
And joined to Your service
wa bikhid-matika maw-sulah
‫ل‬
‫عن حدَّ ل ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫ملاَلَيِّ ل‬ ‫ح‬
‫م ل‬‫ع‬ ‫أ‬ ‫و‬
ً،َ‫ة‬‫ل‬
‫قهبَولَ ا‬
‫م ح‬
‫ل‬
And my works acceptable to You,
wa a`mali i'ndaka maq-bulah

‫ًا‬،‫حدَّا‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ل‬
‫كللهاَ ولحردا موا ل‬ ‫ه‬
So that my works and my litanies may
all be a single litany
hat-ta takuna a`mali wa aw-radi kul-luha

wir-daw-wahidan
ِّ‫حلاَلَيِّ لفي‬ ‫وم ل‬

‫مدَّا ا‬ ‫ر‬
‫ل ح ل‬ ‫س‬ ‫ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ت‬ ‫م‬
‫ل ل‬
‫ح‬ َّ‫د‬ ‫خ‬
and my (life be) devoted to Your
service, eternally.
wa hali fi khid-matika sar-mada

‫ن‬ ‫م‬
‫ل ح‬ َ‫يا‬‫ل‬ ً،ِ‫دَّي‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ِ‫ي‬ ‫س‬ ‫ل ل‬ َ‫يا‬
ِّ‫معلومللَي‬‫ه‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ح‬ ِ‫ي‬‫ل‬ ‫ل‬
My Master! O He upon whom I depend!
‫ل‬ ‫ع‬
ya say-yidi ya man àilayhi muàw-wali
‫ل‬
‫ن إلَيِ حهل‬ ‫م‬
ِّ‫حوللالَي‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬
‫تأ ح‬ ‫ح ه‬ ‫و‬ ‫ك‬ ‫ش‬
O He to whom alone I complain about
my situation!
ya man ilayhi shakaw-tu ah-wali

‫مت لكل‬
‫لح‬ َّ‫د‬ ‫خ‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬
َ‫لى‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ع‬ ‫ل‬ ‫و‬‫ل‬ ‫ق‬

Strengthen my limbs for Your service,
qaw-wi àla khid-matika jawarihi

‫ل‬ ‫عل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ح‬ ‫د‬‫ه‬ َّ‫د‬ ‫ش‬ ‫ح‬ ‫وا‬
‫ل‬
ِّ‫حي‬

‫ل ل‬‫زي‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ع‬‫ح‬
And fortify my ribs in determination

wash-dud àlal-àzimati jawanihi
‫جدَّ م‬‫ل‬ ‫ح‬ َ‫ل‬ ‫ا‬ ِّ‫لَي‬

‫ل‬ ْ‫ب‬
‫ح‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ه‬‫ل‬ ‫و‬
‫شيِ لت ل ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫خ ح‬ ‫لفيِّ ل‬
grant me eagerness in Your fear,
wa hab liyal-jid-da fi khash-yatik

ِّ‫م لفي‬ ‫لوالَدَّ ملوا ل‬

‫مت ل ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫خدَّ لح‬
‫صلاَل ب ل ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ت‬‫ال‬
And continuity in my being joined to
Your service
wad-dawama fil-at-itisali bikhid-matik

‫ح إ لللَيِكل‬ ‫ل‬

So that I may move easily toward You
in the battlefields of the foremost

ِّ‫سرلعل إلَيِ حك لفي‬ ‫ل ح‬ ‫أ‬ ‫و‬
‫ن‬

‫لَم‬ ‫ا‬
hurry to You among those who are
prominent,
wa us-rià ilayka fil-mubadirin

َ‫ى‬ َ‫إل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ق‬ َ‫تا‬ ‫ح‬
‫ش‬ ‫ل‬ ‫أ‬ ‫و‬

yearn toward Your nearness among
those who are eager, ‫م‬

wa ash-taqa ila qur-bika fil-mush-taqin

‫ه مه‬ ‫د‬ ‫ك‬‫ل‬ ‫من ح‬ ‫ولأد حن هول ل‬
‫ن‬
‫ل‬ ِ‫صي‬‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬‫خ‬‫ح‬ ‫م‬
‫ه‬ ‫ح‬ َ‫ل‬
become close to You with the
‫ا‬
closeness of those who are sincere,
wa ad-nua minka dunu-wal-mukh-lisin

‫ل‬
َ‫ة‬‫ل‬ ‫ف‬
‫ل ل ل‬ َ‫خا‬ ‫م‬ ‫ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫خاَفل‬ ‫ولأ ل‬
‫ن‬
‫ل‬ ِ‫ني‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ق‬ ‫مو‬
‫ه‬ ‫ح‬ َ‫ل‬ ‫ا‬
fear You with the fear of those who are
certain,
wa akhafaka makhafatal-muqinin
ِّ‫معل لفي‬ ‫ل‬
Dua’a Kumayl
‫جت ل ل‬ ‫ولأ ح‬ ‫كدعُاكء ككمُيل‬
‫مع ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬

‫ك‬ ‫ر‬ ‫وا‬
‫ل ل ل‬ ‫ج‬
‫ن‬‫ل‬ ِ‫ني‬
‫ل‬ ‫ؤم‬‫ح‬ ‫م‬‫ه‬ ‫ح‬ َ‫ل‬
And gather with the believers in Your
vicinity. ‫ا‬
wa aj-tamià fi jiwarika ma'l-mu-mnin
‫ل‬
ِّ‫ن ألراد للني‬ ‫م‬ ‫و‬ ‫م‬

‫ه م ل ل لح‬ ‫ه‬ ‫م‬ ‫ل‬ َ‫ال‬
‫ه‬ ‫ر‬ ْ‫أ‬‫ل‬
‫سوءْ ف ل هح‬
‫د‬ ‫ل ه‬ ‫ب‬
O Allah! Whoever wishes me evil,
wish him (the same),
allahumma wa man aradani bisuo-in farid-

hu
‫ه‬ ‫ه‬‫ح‬ َّ‫د‬

‫ل‬ ‫ك‬‫ل‬ ‫ف‬ ِّ‫ني‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫د‬ ‫ل‬
َ‫كا‬ ‫من‬
‫ل ل‬ ‫و‬
and whoever wants to deceive me,
deceive him.
wa man kadani fakid-hu

And make me one of the most
‫نل ل‬
excellent of Your slaves in Portion
from You,
waj-àlni min ahasani àbidika nasiban
i'ndaka
‫ل‬
‫ةَل‬
‫من حزللَ ا‬ ‫هم‬
‫ل ل لل م‬‫ب‬‫ر‬‫ح‬ ‫ق‬ ‫أ‬ ‫و‬
‫من ح ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫ل‬
And the nearest of them in station to
You
wa aq-rabihim-manzilatam-mink
‫ل‬
َ‫ة‬
‫ف ا‬ ‫ح‬
‫م هزلَ ل‬ ‫ه‬
‫ل ل ح‬‫ص‬ ‫خ‬
‫ل‬ ‫أ‬‫ل‬ ‫و‬
‫ملَدَّي حكل‬
And the most elected of them in
proximity to You.
wa akhas-sihim zul-fatal-ladayk
‫ل ذ للَ ل ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫ه ل ي هلناَ ه‬ ‫ف ل هم‬
‫ن‬ ‫إ‬‫ل‬
‫ضل ل ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫إ لل ل ح‬
‫ف‬
‫ل‬ ‫ب‬ ‫م‬
For that cannot be attained except by
Your bounty.
fa-in-nahu la yunalu dha-lika il-la bi-fadlik

‫جود لكل‬
‫جدَّ ح للَيِّ ب ل ه‬
‫ول ه‬
And grant generously to me through
Your munificence,
wa jud li bijudik
ِّ‫ي‬

‫ل‬
‫جدَّ ل ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫م ح‬ ‫ل ل‬ ‫ب‬
And incline toward me with Your
splendour
wà-tif àlay-ya bi-maj-dik

‫ح‬
ِّ‫فظلني‬ ‫ح ل‬‫لوا ح‬
‫ك‬‫مت ل ل‬ ‫ح‬
‫ح‬
‫لل ل‬ ‫ر‬ ‫ب‬
And protect me with Your mercy!
wah-fazni birah-matik
ِّ‫ساَلني‬‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ َ‫ل‬ ‫عل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ج‬

‫ح‬ ‫وا‬
‫ل‬
‫ك لَ لهجاَ ا‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ر‬‫ح‬
‫ل ل‬ ‫ك‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ذ‬ ‫ب‬
‫ل‬
And make my tongue remember You
without ceasing
waj-àl-lisani bidhik-rika lahija

‫حبَ لكل‬
‫ومق ل ل ه‬
‫ب‬ ِّ‫بَي‬‫ح‬ ‫ل‬‫ل‬
‫مت لميِماَ ا‬
‫ه‬
And my heart enthralled by Your love!
wa qal-bi bi-hub-bika mutay-yama

‫ن‬ ‫س‬ ‫ح‬

‫ه‬ ‫ب‬ ِّ‫ي‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬‫ل‬ ‫ع‬ ‫ن‬ ‫م‬ ‫و‬
‫م ل ح ل‬ ‫م ه م‬
‫جاَب لت ل ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫إل ل‬
And be gracious to me by answering
me favourably,
wa mun-na àlay-ya bihus-ni ijabatik

‫ل‬
‫ح‬
ِّ‫ولأقلللنيِّ ع لث حلرلتي‬
‫م‬
ِّ‫فحر لزلَلتي‬‫لواغ لح‬
And nullify my slips, And forgive my
lapses!
wa aqil-ni àth-rati wagh-fir zal-lati

‫ل‬
َ‫ت ع للى‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ح‬ ِ‫ي‬ ‫ض‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ق‬ ‫ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫م‬ ‫ن‬ ‫إ‬‫ل‬ ‫ف‬
‫ل‬
‫ك‬‫ك ب لعللبَاَد لت ل ل‬ ‫علبَاَد ل ل‬
For You have demanded Your servants
‫ل‬
to worship You,
fa-in-naka qadayta àla i'badika bi-i'badatik

‫عاَئ لكل‬
‫محرت لههم ب لدَّ ه ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫أ‬ ‫و‬
‫ل ل‬
And commanded them to supplicate
You
wa amar-tahum biduàa-ika
‫م‬ ‫ه‬‫ل‬
‫ل ه ه‬ َ‫ل‬ ‫ت‬ ‫من‬‫ل‬ ‫ض‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫و‬
َ‫ة‬
‫جاَب ل ل‬
‫ال ل ل‬
And assured them that they would be
answered.
wa daminta lahumul-ijabah
‫ب‬‫ف ل ح ل ل ل‬
‫ر‬ َ‫يا‬ ‫ل‬
‫ك‬ ِ‫ي‬‫ل‬ َ‫ل‬ ‫إ‬‫ل‬
ِّ‫جلهي‬‫ت ول ح‬ ‫ح‬
‫ل ه‬ َ‫ب‬ ‫ص‬
So toward You, my Lord, I have turned
‫ل‬ ‫ن‬
my face
fa-ilayka ya rab-bi nasab-tu waj-hi

‫ب‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬

‫لوإلَيِ حك لياَ لر ل‬
ِ‫دَّي‬
‫ت يل ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫دَّد‬
‫ل‬ ‫م‬
‫ل‬
And toward You, my Lord, I have
extended my hand.
wa ilayka ya rab-bi madad-tu yadi

ْ‫ب‬ ‫ج‬ ‫ت‬

‫ح ل ل ح‬‫س‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ك‬‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ت‬‫ز‬‫ف ل م‬
‫ل‬ ‫ع‬َ‫ب‬‫ل‬
ِّ‫عاَلئي‬
‫للَيِّ د ه ل‬
So by Your might, answer my
supplication,
fa-bi-i'z-zatikas-tajib li duàa-i
ِ‫ملناَي‬
‫ه‬ ِّ‫ني‬
‫ل‬ ‫ح‬ ُ‫غ‬‫ل‬ ‫ل‬‫ل‬ ‫ب‬‫ل‬ ‫و‬
And make me attain my desires!
wa bal-ligh-ni munay
‫من‬ ‫قطعح ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫لول ت ل ح‬

ِّ‫جاَلئي‬ ‫ر‬
‫ل ل‬ ‫ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ض‬ ‫ل‬
‫ف ح‬
Do not cut off, by Your grace, my hope,
wa-la taq-ta' min fadlika raja-i

‫ن‬ ‫ج‬
‫ل ل‬ ‫ح‬ َ‫ل‬
Dua’a Kumayl
‫ا‬ ‫ر‬
‫م‬ ‫ل‬
‫ش‬ ِّ‫ني‬
‫ل‬ ‫ف‬
‫ل‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ك‬‫وا‬
‫ل‬
‫ن‬
‫ح‬ ‫م‬
‫ل‬ ‫س‬‫ل لل ل‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ن‬‫ل‬ ‫وا‬
ِّ‫دَّالئي‬
‫أع ح ل‬
and protect me from the evil of my
enemies from among the jinn and
humankind.
wak-fini shar-ral-jin-ni wal-in-si min a`da-i
َ‫ضا‬
‫ريعل الَلر ل‬
‫ل‬ ‫س‬
‫ل‬
O He, whose pleasure is quickly
achieved!
ya sari-yàr-rida
‫مل ل ه‬
‫ك‬ ‫حل‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ل‬ ‫من‬ ‫ح ل‬ ‫ل‬ َ‫ل‬ ‫ر‬ ‫ف‬
‫ل‬ ‫ح‬ ‫غ‬‫ا‬
ْ‫عاَلء‬
‫إ لل ل ل‬
َّ‫د‬ َ‫ال‬ ‫م‬
Forgive him who has nothing but
prayer,
igh-fir liman-la yam-liku il-lad-duàa

َ‫ما‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ َ‫ل‬ ْ‫ء‬
‫ل‬ َ‫عا‬
‫م‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ف‬ ‫ل‬
‫ك‬ ‫م‬ ‫ن‬ ‫إ‬‫ل‬ ‫ف‬
‫ل‬
ْ‫شاَهء‬ ‫تل ل‬
for You do what You please.
fa-in-naka faàlul-lima tasha

ْ‫ه د للواءْء‬ ‫م‬ ‫س‬ ‫ا‬

‫ل ل ح ح ه ه‬‫ن‬ ‫م‬ َ‫يا‬
ْ‫فاَءْء‬
‫ش ل‬ ‫ح‬
‫ولذ لكهره ه ل‬
O He whose Name is a remedy,
And whose remembrance is a cure,
ya manis-muhu dawa-un wa dhik-ruhu

shifa-un
َ‫ه لغانى‬ ‫ل‬

‫ولطاَع لت هه‬
And whose obedience is wealth!
wa ta'tuhu ghinan
‫ح‬
‫س‬
‫ه‬ ‫أ‬ ‫ر‬ ‫من‬
‫م م‬ ‫حم‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ر‬
‫ح‬ ‫ا‬
ْ‫جاَهء‬ ‫ملاَلَهل الَمر ل‬ ‫ل‬
Have mercy upon him whose capital is
hope
ir-ham-mar-ra-su malihir-raja
‫ل‬ ‫ح‬
‫ه الَبَ هكاَءْه‬
‫ه‬ ‫ح‬
‫ه‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬‫س‬‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫و‬
And whose weapon is tears!
wa silahuhul-buka-u
‫ل‬ ‫م‬‫ل‬ ‫ع‬‫ل‬ ‫ن‬ َ‫ال‬ ‫ل‬ ‫غ‬ ‫اَب‬

‫ل‬ ‫س‬
‫ل‬
O Ample in blessings!
ya sabighan-niàm
‫ل‬ ‫م‬ ‫ق‬

‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ن‬ َ‫ال‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ع‬‫ل‬ ‫ف‬‫دا‬
‫ل‬
O Repeller of adversities!
ya dafiàn-niqam
‫لياَ هنولر‬
ِّ‫ن لفي‬
‫ل‬ ِ‫شي‬
‫ل‬ ‫ح‬
‫ل‬ ‫ح‬ ‫و‬‫ل‬ ‫ت‬ ‫س‬
‫ح‬ ‫م‬
‫ه‬ ‫ح‬ َ‫ل‬ ‫ا‬
‫م‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬‫ل‬ ‫ظ‬ َ‫ال‬
O Light of those who are lonely in the
‫ل‬ darkness!
ya nural-mus-taw-hishina fiz-zulami
‫م‬
‫ه‬ ‫م‬ ‫ل‬‫ل‬ ‫ع‬‫ه‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ا‬ َ‫ا‬ ‫لَم‬
‫ل‬ َ‫عا‬
‫ل‬
O Knower who was never taught!
ya àlimal-la yuàl-lam
‫ل‬
‫ه م‬ ‫م‬ ‫ل‬
َ‫لى‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ع‬ ‫ل‬
‫ل‬ ‫ص‬
‫ل‬
‫ل‬ ‫م‬
‫م ل ه م‬ ‫ل‬ ‫وآ‬
Bless Muhammad and Muhammad's
household!
sal-li àla muhammad wa a-li muhammadin

‫ل‬
‫ت‬
‫ل‬ ‫أن‬ َ‫ما‬
‫ل‬ ِّ‫بي‬‫ل‬ ‫ح‬
‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ع‬‫ح‬ ‫ف‬ ‫وا‬
‫هه‬ ‫ل‬‫ح‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ل‬ ‫أ‬
‫ه‬
And do with me what is worthy of You!
waf-àl bi ma anta ah-luh

‫ل‬
َ‫ه ع للى‬
Dua’a Kumayl
‫ه‬ ‫م‬ ‫ل‬ َ‫ال‬ َ‫لى‬ ‫م‬ ‫ص‬

‫ل ل‬ ‫و‬ ‫كدعُاكء ككمُيل‬
‫مةَل‬ ‫ل‬
‫سولَ لهل لوالئ مل‬ ‫لر ه‬
‫ن آلَ لهل‬ ‫ح‬ ‫م‬
‫ل‬ ‫ن‬‫ل‬ ِ‫مي‬
‫ل‬
And Allah bless His messenger and
the holy Imams of his householdَ‫يِا‬
‫ل‬ ‫م‬
‫ل‬ ‫ح‬ َ‫ل‬ ‫ا‬
wa sal-lallahu àla rasulihi wal-aimmatil-
mayamina min a-lihi
‫سلليِماَ ا‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ت‬

‫ل ل ل ح‬ ‫م‬ ‫م‬ ‫ل‬ ‫س‬‫و‬
‫ك للثيِرا ا‬
And give them abundant peace!
wa sal-lama tas-liman kathira

‫ل‬ ‫م‬ ‫ل‬
َ‫ل ع للى‬‫ص ل‬ ‫م‬

‫ه م ل‬ ‫ه‬ ‫ل‬ َ‫ال‬
‫ل‬ ‫م‬ ‫ل‬ ‫آ‬
‫ه م ل ل ه م‬ ‫و‬ ‫د‬ َّ‫د‬ ‫م‬ ‫ح‬
‫ل‬ ‫م‬
O' Allāh send Your blessings on
Muhammad
and the family of Muhammad.
allahumma salli àla muhammadin wa ali
muhammadin

wa bi-qu-watikal-lati qahar-ta biha kul-la

wa khada`a laha kul-lu shay

wa dhal-la laha kul-lu shay

wa bi-jabarutikal-lati ghalab-ta biha kul-la

‫ك الَلتيِّ ل‬ ‫ولب لعلمزت ل ل‬

wa bi`izzatikal-lati la yaqumu laha shay

wa bi`azamatikal-lati mala-at kul-la shay

wa bisul-tanikal-ladhi `ala kul-la shay

‫ب لعحدَّ ل فللناَلءْ ك هلل‬

‫ل‬ ‫ح‬ ‫لل‬

wa bi-as-ma-ikal-lati malat ar-kana kul-li

wa bi`il-mikal-ladhi ahata bikul-li shay

ِ‫ذي‬ ‫ل‬ َ‫ل‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ل‬

‫ب الَ ملتيِّ لتهت لكه‬ ‫الَذ لهنو ل‬

allahumma-igh-fir liyadh-dhunubal-lati tah-

‫م اغ ل‬‫ح‬ ‫ه ل‬ ‫ه‬‫م‬ ‫ل‬ َ‫ال‬ ‫كدعُاكء ككمُيل‬

allahumma-igh-fir liyadh-dhunubal-lati taq-

‫كل ذ لحنبْ أذ حن لبَ حت هه‬

allahumma inni ataqarrabu ilayka bi-dhik-

wa as-tash-fiu' bika ila naf-sik

ِّ‫ولأن هتوزلع للني‬

‫ضع‬ ‫خاَ ل‬ ‫ؤا ل‬

ِّ‫ً وللفي‬،َ‫ضيِاَ لقاَلنعا‬ ‫لرا ل‬

wa anzala bika i'ndash-shada-idi hajatahu

َ‫ما‬‫ل‬ ِ‫في‬‫ل‬ ‫م‬

wa `azuma fima i'ndaka ragh-batuhu

allahumma `azuma sul-tanuka wa `ala

wa khafiya mak-ruka wazahara am-ruk

wa ghalaba qah-ruka wa jarat qud-ratuk

wa-la yum-kinul-firaru min huku-matik

allahumma la ajidu lidhunubi ghafira

wa-la liqaba-ihi satira

wa-la lishayim-min `amali-yal-qabihi bil-

‫ت‬‫ل‬ ‫أن‬ ‫م‬ ‫ل‬ ‫إ‬

la ilaha il-la anta sub-hanaka wa biham-dika

allahumma maw-lay kam-min qabihin satar-

wa kam-min fadihim-minal-bala-i aqal-tah

wa kam-min thana-in jamilil-las-tu ah-lal-

allahumma `azuma balai

wa af-rata bi suo-u hali

ِّ‫ت لبي‬ ‫ر‬

ِّ‫ت لبي‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ل‬ َّ‫د‬‫ل‬ ‫ع‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ق‬‫ل‬ ‫و‬

‫عن‬ ‫سلنيِّ ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ َ‫ب‬ ‫ح‬

wa habasani `an-naf-e'e bu`a-du a-ma-li

َ‫خدَّ لع لت حلنيِّ الَدَّ لن حليِا‬

wa naf-si bi-jinayatiha wa mita-li

ya say-yidi fa-as-aluka bi-i'z-zatika

‫سوءْه‬ ‫عاَلئيِّ ه‬ ‫ل‬

an la yah-juba àn-ka duàa-i suo-u àmali

ِّ‫والتي‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫خ‬‫ل‬

ِّ‫سولءْ فلعحللي‬ ‫ن‬

min suo-i fi`a-li wa isa-ati

wa dawami taf-riti wa jahalati

wa kath-rati sha-hawati wa ghaf-lati

‫للَيِّ لفيِّ ك هلل‬

wa `alay-ya fi jamii'l-umuri `atufa
