In the current industrial life different types of situations are presented, for which the

When developing and designing our gas springs
and dampers, we are mindful of saving
resources. Despite increasing production, we
have been able to reduce our energy
consumption as well as CO2 emissions over the
past years.

PROCESS.

These connecting rods are generally manufactured by a hot forging process or in a hot
medium comprising several stages consisting in particular of the manufacture of a piece
pre-roughened by rolling a billet previously heated to an appropriate temperature, in
stamping or die forming of the pre-roughened part and in a machining operation of the
calibrated holes of the head and foot to obtain a crude rod.
However, this process has drawbacks that mainly reside in the presence of burrs that
require a supplementary machining operation that consists in carrying out the grinding of

drawbacks by proposing a forging rod forming method that allows a material economy and
reduces machining operations, obtaining increasingly precise tolerances and a good
precision in weight as well as a repetitive distribution of the material for a production in
large series.

The subject of the invention is therefore a method of manufacturing a forged connecting


rod according to claim 1. According to another feature of the invention, the chipped piece is
heated to a temperature between 0 and 1250 ° C.
The material from which the connecting rod object of this study is manufactured is carbon
steel alloyed with nickel and chromium; According to the AISI designation system four

In the hardness tests resulted in 45 ROCKWELL C (poor condition) and compared with a
rod in good condition of the same type, model and material, performing the same
procedure, cutting, encapsulating and taking hardness resulting in a 35 ROCKWELL C.

RESULTS.

After the study of experimental design was carried out successfully, as well as after having
reviewed and analyzed the results obtained in the study, it can be concluded that the
hardness of the material is the main focus point in which we must proceed to perform a
work of solution since it is the main effect that the connecting rods tend to break from the
midpoint when they occur defective, which at other levels would result in loss and for each
connecting rod that is detected as defective is separated all the batch consisting of 516
pieces, and these should be revised, but for ergonomic reasons are classified as losses
and placed in the foundry area to restart the process, this does not suit the company as
they have a very damaging effect in terms of its name as a manufacturing industry.

As we can see in the graphs, the hardness is the aspect where we must focus on because

which has more influence in the process to manufacture rods. The thickness and the
temperature also are important in the fracture of the rod but if we watch the interaction
graph, we can know that the temperature and thickness are related as hardness with
temperature. Since hardness depends of the temperature and the thickness is a posterior
stage of the previous factors and the temperature is a factor that always is present in the
procedure of this.
In the cube graph we observe the same results than in the table of variance analysis, we
calculate the means between the, main effects to get the interactions with the full factorial
of experimental design method supported of a software (Minitab). According with the first
graph exist different surfaces depending of the interactions between factors. And finally,
from the main effect and interaction graphs we can see that the hardness is the factor in
which we have to work to prevent and avoid defects in the rods and so this information we
should give to the quality department or to manager to make a solution sudden.

CONCLUSION.

Finally we can as a team conclude that the experimental design of this type of
circumstances are presented day by day in companies, factories and any company, since it
is one of the most efficient and effective tools to get to know in which phase or stage of the
process of manufacture of any product is taking place some conflict, that is in a detrimental
way to the finished product, so here we can observe how in the manufacture of connecting
rods there are so many factors that any of them could be the one that affects the product
more and thanks to this method based on a numerical and geometric system we can know
with certainty which is the factor that has greater influence on the product for any case,
depending on the needs we have.
