ISSN Reflection

This project was based on detecting and removing contaminated water. The purpose of

this project was to create a model and a way to detect and remove contaminants from our

drinking water. Contaminated drinking water can be found anywhere and it is bad for our health.

pH level of 7 should be clean water and it should be drinkable. My group and I had the

contaminant fertilizer and we chose the chemical phosphorus. Our goal was to remove this

contaminant wIth the ideas that we had created. The thoughts that I had were negative thoughts. I

really did not know what to do, my group and I did not want to do a powerpoint. We decided to

do the actual experiment, which was not required.

My group and I drew and wrote what we needed in order for this project to work out. We

needed pH strips, sand, charcoal, purified water, a poster board, tissue paper and the fertilizer.

We each had to bring something and had to meet up to work on the experiment. I thought this

was going to take long but it did not it was not difficult.We recorded us doing the experiment,

and add effects to make it look neat.We had to try out the experiment three times because we

followed the wrong steps. Once we finished recording, my group and I finished everything off

with a poster board. On the poster board we added some samples of the materials we used. We
drew a diagram with what we removed the contaminant from the water. Also detecting, we taped

some of the pH strips onto the board.

From this project i learned how to remove and detect a contaminant from drinking water.

Something I learned about myself was that I do not procrastinate. My group and I did a great job.

We expected an A on this project since we tried our best but instead earned a B. In my opinion

we did deserve this grade because we missed the Slos. Also we did something wrong and our

teacher caught the mistake. But overall we did great, not too bad for the first time doing this

experiment. Something differently I would do is re-check my work and make sure everything is

perfect. In this project the thing we did wrong was use tissue paper instead of filter paper. Filter

paper is a way to filter out things from water or anything in general. My group and I believed this

was going to work, and it did. Filter paper would have helped out even more.

I recognized and weighed perspectives by sharing each others opinion with my group. I

know it matters in today's society because in the real world this is very much needed. To

understand other people's opinion when it comes to projects or anything. I communicated ideas

by being able to stay connected with my group during the weekend. This is because we could not

do the project during school hours, so we used social media to know where we will meet up.

When completing this project we had different observations, and so we concluded it to one.

We reviewed our presentations and added some finishing touches.
