2. Pneumatic - Engine Air Bleed


A. General

(1) This task gives the procedure to supply pneumatic power through one of the engines.

(2) This maintenance technician is necessary to do this task:

C. Job Set-Up
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE AIRCRAFT IS IN A SAFE CONDITION BEFORE YOU DO THE
MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES. THIS IS TO PREVENT INJURY TO PERSONS AND/
OR DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.

WARNING: STAY AT A SAFE DISTANCE FROM THE ENGINE AIR INTAKE AND EXHAUST AREAS
DURING THE START AND GROUND OPERATIONS. THESE AREAS ARE
DANGEROUS. IF YOU STAY NEAR THEM, INJURIES CAN OCCUR TO YOU.

CAUTION: KEEP THE AREA ADJACENT TO THE AIRCRAFT CLEAN, WITHOUT STONES,
CLOTHES, TOOLS, OR OTHER OBJECTS OR FLUIDS WHICH CAN GO INTO THE
ENGINE.
SUBTASK 860-001-A
(1) Do the procedure to make the aircraft safe for maintenance (AMM TASK
20-00-00-910-801-A/200 ).

(2) On the overhead panel, on the AIR COND/PNEUMATIC control panel, set these
switches as follows:
• PACK 1 OFF (unlatched)

• PACK 2 OFF (unlatched)

• BLEED 1 OFF (unlatched)

• BLEED 2 OFF (unlatched)

• XBLEED AUTO (latched)

D. Engine Air Bleed - Maintenance Practices (Figure 201)


SUBTASK 870-001-A
(1) Do as follows to bleed air from the left engine:

WARNING: STAY AT A SAFE DISTANCE FROM THE ENGINES IN OPERATION


AND DO NOT TOUCH THE ENGINES IMMEDIATELY AFTER THEY
STOP. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE PRECAUTIONS, INJURIES OR
BURNS CAN OCCUR.
(a) Start the left engine (AMM TASK 71-00-01-910-801-A/200 ) and keep the TL in
the idle position.

(b) On the overhead panel, on the AIR COND/PNEUMATIC control panel, set the
BLEED 1 switch to the latched (auto) position (a striped bar goes out of view).

(2) Do as follows to bleed air from the right engine:

WARNING: STAY AT A SAFE DISTANCE FROM THE ENGINES IN OPERATION


AND DO NOT TOUCH THE ENGINES IMMEDIATELY AFTER THEY
STOP. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE PRECAUTIONS, INJURIES OR

(a) Start the right engine (AMM TASK 71-00-01-910-801-A/200 ) and keep the TL in
the idle position.

(b) On the overhead panel, on the AIR COND/PNEUMATIC control panel, set the
BLEED 2 switch to the latched (auto) position (a striped bar goes out of view).

E. Job Close-Up
SUBTASK 860-002-A
(1) On the overhead panel, on the AIR COND/PNEUMATIC control panel, set these
switches to the unlatched (off) position (a striped bar comes into view), as applicable:
• BLEED1

• BLEED2

• XBLEED

(2) Stop the left or right engine (AMM TASK 71-00-01-910-806-A/200 ), as applicable.

(2) On the overhead panel, on the AIR COND/PNEUMATIC control panel, set these
switches as follows:
• PACK 1 OFF (unlatched)

• PACK 2 OFF (unlatched)

• BLEED 1 OFF (unlatched)

• BLEED 2 OFF (unlatched)

• XBLEED AUTO (latched)

• BLEED APU OFF (unlatched)

WARNING: USE EAR PROTECTION DURING THE APU OPERATION. VERY HIGH
NOISES CAN CAUSE INJURY TO YOUR EARS.
(3) Start the APU (AMM TASK 49-10-00-910-801-A/200 ).
