MAINTENANCE MANUAL
EFFECTIVITY: ALL
1. General
A. This section gives the procedure to remove, install, deactivate and reactivate the cross bleed
valve, and it also gives the procedure to remove/install the cross-bleed valve filter.
B. The cross bleed valve is installed between the right and left fairing arrangement.
D. The abbreviations and acronyms used in this section are given in the sequence below:

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE AIRCRAFT IS IN A SAFE CONDITION BEFORE YOU DO THE
MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES. THIS IS TO PREVENT INJURY TO PERSONS AND/
OR DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE LANDING GEAR SAFETY PINS ARE INSTALLED. THIS IS TO
PREVENT INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO MATERIAL.
SUBTASK 940-001-A
(1) Do the procedure to make the aircraft safe for maintenance (AMM TASK
20-00-00-910-801-A/200 ).
SUBTASK 860-001-A
(2) Connect the external AC power supply to the aircraft (AMM TASK 24-42-02-860-801-
A/200 ).
(3) On the overhead panel, on the AIR COND/PNEUMATIC control panel, set these
switches to the unlatched (off) position (a striped bar comes into view):
• BLEED1
• BLEED2
• XBLEED
(4) Put a DO NOT OPERATE tag on the AIR COND/PNEUMATIC control panel.
(5) Make sure that the engines (AMM TASK 71-00-01-910-806-A/200 ) and the APU
(AMM TASK 49-10-00-910-802-A/200 ) are not in operation.

(6) Open the access door 191BL.
F. Cross-Bleed Valve - Removal
SUBTASK 020-001-A (Figure 401)
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE LANDING GEAR SAFETY PINS ARE INSTALLED. THIS
IS TO PREVENT INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO MATERIAL.
WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH THE DUCTS OR COMPONENTS OF THE AIR BLEED SYSTEM
IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE SYSTEM STOPS ITS OPERATION. THE HIGH AIR
TEMPERATURE CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
(1) Remove the thermal insulation (1) from the cross-bleed valve (2).
(2) Disconnect the electrical connector (3) from the cross-bleed valve (2) and put a
protective cap on it.
(3) Disconnect the V-band clamps (4) and remove the cross-bleed valve (2).

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE AIRCRAFT IS IN A SAFE CONDITION BEFORE YOU DO
THE MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES. THIS IS TO PREVENT INJURY TO
PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE LANDING GEAR SAFETY PINS ARE INSTALLED. THIS
IS TO PREVENT INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO MATERIAL.
(1) Make sure that the aircraft is in the same configuration as it was at the end of the
removal task (AMM TASK 36-10-01-000-801-A/400 ).
F. Cross-Bleed Valve - Installation
SUBTASK 420-001-A (Figure 401)
WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH THE DUCTS OR COMPONENTS OF THE AIR BLEED SYSTEM
IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE SYSTEM STOPS ITS OPERATION. THE HIGH AIR
TEMPERATURE CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
(1) Remove the protective cap/plug from the bleed ducts (REF.).
(2) Put the cross-bleed valve (2) in its installation position and connect the V-band clamps
(4) (AMM TASK 20-10-12-910-801-A/200 ).
NOTE: Make sure that the valve is not locked in the closed position.
(3) Use a torque wrench to torque the V-band clamps (4) to 8.47 - 9.04 N.m (75 - 80 lb.in).
(4) Remove the protective cap from the electrical connector (3) and connect it to the cross-
bleed valve (2).
(5) Install the thermal insulation (1) on the cross-bleed valve (2).
NOTE: Make sure that the opening of the thermal insulations points to the ODS
sensors.
G. Job Close-Up
SUBTASK 720-001-A
(1) Do the electrical bonding test (AMM TASK 20-13-21-720-801-A/200 ).
SUBTASK 410-002-A
(2) Close the access door 191BL.
SUBTASK 860-002-A
(3) Remove the DO NOT OPERATE tag from the AIR COND/PNEUMATIC control panel.
SUBTASK 710-001-A
(4) Do the operational test of the APU bleed system (AMM TASK 36-12-00-710-801-A/
500 ) or the operational test of the engine bleed system in the idle condition (AMM
TASK 36-11-00-710-802-A/500 ).

(1) Do the procedure to make the aircraft safe for maintenance (AMM TASK
20-00-00-910-801-A/200 ).
SUBTASK 860-003-A
(2) Connect the external AC power supply to the aircraft (AMM TASK 24-42-02-860-801-
A/200 ).
(3) On the overhead panel, on the AIR COND/PNEUMATIC control panel, set these
switches to the unlatched (off) position (a striped bar comes into view):
• BLEED1
• BLEED2
• BLEED APU
• XBLEED
(4) Put a DO NOT OPERATE tag on the AIR COND/PNEUMATIC control panel.
(5) Make sure that the engines (AMM TASK 71-00-01-910-806-A/200 ) and the APU
(AMM TASK 49-10-00-910-802-A/200 ) are not in operation.
SUBTASK 010-004-A
(6) Open the access door 191BL to get access to the cross-bleed valve filter.
G. Cross-Bleed Valve Filter - Removal
SUBTASK 020-002-A (Figure 402)
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE LANDING GEAR SAFETY PINS ARE INSTALLED. THIS
IS TO PREVENT INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO MATERIAL.
WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH THE DUCTS OR COMPONENTS OF THE AIR BLEED SYSTEM
IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE SYSTEM STOPS ITS OPERATION. THE HIGH AIR
TEMPERATURE CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
CAUTION: PUT CAPS ON ALL LINES AND FITTINGS AND MAKE SURE THAT THE AREA IS
CLEAN AND FREE OF ALL UNWANTED FLUID. DIRT CAN CAUSE SYSTEM
CONTAMINATION, LEAKAGE, AND DAMAGE TO COMPONENTS.
(1) Rotate the cross-bleed valve to make easier to remove the filter (5) (AMM TASK
36-10-01-000-801-A/400 ).
(2) Cut and remove the lockwire (2) from the plug (1).
NOTE: Use a mirror and a flashlight to help to find the lockwire (2) .
(3) Remove the plug (1) from the cross-bleed valve (REF.).
(5) Remove the filter (5) from the cross-bleed valve (REF.).

SUBTASK 860-004-A
(1) Make sure that the aircraft is in the same configuration as it was at the end of the
removal task (AMM TASK 36-10-01-000-802-A/400 ).
H. Cross-Bleed Valve Filter - Installation
SUBTASK 420-002-A (Figure 402)
WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH THE DUCTS OR COMPONENTS OF THE AIR BLEED SYSTEM
IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE SYSTEM STOPS ITS OPERATION. THE HIGH AIR
TEMPERATURE CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
(1) Remove the protective cap/plug from the cross-bleed valve (REF.).
(2) Install the spring (4) on the filter (5) and install them in the cross-bleed valve (REF.).
(3) Apply a thin layer of lubricant NSBT- 8N on the threads of the plug (1).
(4) Install the new packing (3) on the plug (1) and connect it to the cross-bleed valve
(REF.).
(5) Use a torque wrench to torque the plug (1) to 4.0 - 4.5 N.m (35 - 40 lb.in).
(7) Put the cross-bleed valve in its original position. Refer to (AMM TASK
36-10-01-400-801-A/400 )

SUBTASK 410-006-A
CAUTION: EXAMINE ALL THE WORK AREAS TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU REMOVED ALL
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT AFTER YOU COMPLETED THE WORK. IF YOU DO NOT
OBEY THIS PROCEDURE, DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT CAN OCCUR.
(3) Disconnect the AC power supply from the aircraft (AMM TASK 24-42-02-860-802-A/
200 ).
TASK 36-10-01-040-801-A
EFFECTIVITY: ALL
(1) This task refers to item 36-10-01 – cross-bleed valve - of the DDPM and gives the procedure
to deactivate the cross-bleed valve.
(2) This task shows two possible procedures to start the engine with the cross-bleed valve
inoperative and a serviceable APU, and other procedure to start the engines with the cross-
bleed valve inoperative and unserviceable APU.
(3) The cross-bleed valve is installed between the RH and LH fairing arrangement, in zone 191.

3 On the EICAS, this advisory CAS message will come into view:
• XBLEED SW OFF
4 Remove the locking screw (2) from its normal operation position (REF.).
6 Install the locking screw (2) on the locked position (REF.) threaded hole.
9 Remove the locking screw (2) from the locked position (REF.) threaded
hole.
NOTE: The cross-bleed valve is spring-loaded closed, so it must return to
the closed position at this point.
11 Install the locking screw (2) on the locked position (REF.) threaded hole.
12 Tighten the locking screw (2) until it touches the actuator housing boss.
14 Make an entry in the aircraft technical logbook to show that you did the
deactivation procedure for the cross-bleed valve.

3 On the EICAS, this advisory CAS message will come into view:
• XBLEED SW OFF
4 Remove the locking screw (2) from its normal operation position (REF.).
7 Install the locking screw (2) on the locked position (REF.) threaded hole.

13 Make an entry in the aircraft technical logbook to show that you did the

SUBTASK 040-002-A
WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH THE BLEED-AIR SYSTEM DUCTS OR COMPONENTS
IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE ENGINE OR APU STOPS. THE HIGH TEMPERATURE
OF THE BLEED-AIR CAN CAUSE INJURIES TO PERSONS.
(2) To start the engines with the cross-bleed valve inoperative and an unserviceable APU,
do as follows (with external pneumatic air source only):
(a) On the overhead panel, on the AIR COND/PNEUMATIC control panel, set these
switches to the unlatched (OFF) position (a stripped bar comes into view):
• BLEED 1
• BLEED 2
• PACK 1
• PACK 2
(b) On the AIR COND/PNEUMATIC control panel, set this pushbutton to the OFF
position (a striped bar comes into view) and put a XBLEED INOP - DO NOT USE
tag on it:
• XBLEED
(c) On the overhead panel, on the AIR COND/PNEUMATIC control panel, set these
switches to the unlatched (OFF) position (a stripped bar comes into view):
(d) On the EICAS, this advisory CAS message will come into view:
• XBLEED SW OFF
(e) Remove the locking screw (2) from its locked position (REF.) threaded hole.
(g) Install the locking screw (2) on the locked position (REF.) threaded hole.
(h) Tighten the locking screw (2) until it touches the actuator housing boss.
WARNING: STAY AT A SAFE DISTANCE FROM THE ENGINE AIR INTAKE AND
EXHAUST AREAS DURING THE START AND GROUND OPERATIONS.
THESE AREAS ARE DANGEROUS. IF YOU STAY NEAR THEM,
INJURIES CAN OCCUR TO YOU.
(j) Start the RH engine with the external pneumatic power-source (AMM TASK
71-00-01-910-801-A/200 ).
WARNING: STAY AT A SAFE DISTANCE FROM THE ENGINE AIR INTAKE AND
EXHAUST AREAS DURING THE START AND GROUND OPERATIONS.
THESE AREAS ARE DANGEROUS. IF YOU STAY NEAR THEM,
INJURIES CAN OCCUR TO YOU.
(l) Start the LH engine (AMM TASK 71-00-01-910-803-A/200 ).
(m) Remove the locking screw (2) from the locked position (REF.) threaded hole.
NOTE: The cross-bleed valve is spring-loaded closed, so it must return to the
closed position at this point.
(o) Install the locking screw (2) on the locked position (REF.) threaded hole.
(p) Tighten the locking screw (2) until it touches the actuator housing boss.
(q) Tell the dispatch personnel that an external pneumatic power-source will be
necessary for subsequent flights if the RH engine is shut down.
(r) Make an entry in the aircraft technical logbook to show that you did the
deactivation procedure for the cross-bleed valve.

(1) This task gives the procedure to reactivate the cross-bleed valve, if the deactivation
procedure (AMM TASK 36-10-01-040-801-A/400 ) obeyed the special dispatch condition of
the DDPM reference item 36-10-01.
(2) The cross-bleed valve is installed between the RH and LH fairing arrangement, at zone 191.

(2) Open the access panel 191BL to get access to the cross-bleed valve.
E. Cross-Bleed Valve - Reactivation
SUBTASK 440-002-A
(1) To unlock the cross-bleed valve from the closed position, do as follows:
(a) Remove the locking screw (2) from the locked position (REF.) threaded hole.
NOTE: The cross-bleed valve is spring-loaded closed.
(b) Install and tighten the locking screw (2) to the normal position (REF.).
(2) Do the troubleshooting and the applicable corrective maintenance procedure for the
cross-bleed valve.
(3) Remove the XBLEED INOP - DO NOT USE tag from the AIR COND/PNEUMATIC
control panel and set this pushbutton to AUTO position (a striped bar goes out of view).
• XBLEED
(4) Make sure that this advisory CAS message goes out of view on the EICAS:
• XBLEED SW OFF
(5) Make an entry in the aircraft technical logbook to show that you did the reactivation
procedure for the cross-bleed valve.
