Simplified Short Row (SSR)
1. Work to point in row specified in instructions.
2. Place a stitch marker around the working yarn and turn work.
3. On WS row, sl 1 st as if to purl, p the next st; on RS row, sl 1 st as if to purl, k
the next st. The st marker will be between the st you just worked and the
slipped st.
4. When you’re ready to work over the marked SSR sts: work to marker, with tip

NOTES
1. Tunic is worked in 4 separate pieces: Back, Front, Pocket and Cat.
2. A circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of sts. Work
back and forth in rows on the circular needle, as if working on straight
needles.
3. Lower edge of Back, Front and Back shoulders, and top edge of Pocket
are shaped with short rows. Short rows are rows that are worked over a
portion of the sts in a row, leaving the remaining sts unworked. Our
pattern includes directions for simplified short rows (SSR) that do not
require wrapping the sts as on traditional short rows. Feel free to use your
own favorite method when working short rows!
4. Cat is worked separately and sewn to front of Tunic.
5. When you see ‘as established’ in the instructions, this means to continue
in the current pattern st, lining up sts as in previous rows.
6. When you see work ‘even’ in the instructions, this means to continue on in
the pattern st you have established without changing the st count by
increasing, decreasing, or binding off.

Place markers on side edges of Back and Front about 10 in. (25.5 cm) down
from shoulder seams. Sew side edges from lower edge to markers, leaving 10 in.
(25.5 cm) open for armholes.

Sew Pocket to right hand side of Front.

Place lower edge of Cat into Pocket, so Cat appears to be emerging from
Pocket. Sew Cat to Front.
Sew a few sts along top edge of Pocket through Cat and Front. This sews this
part of top edge of Pocket closed to prevent Pocket from drooping down and
revealing lower edge of Cat.
