CELEBRATING CHURCH PLANTING by Dr. Mark Berry District Superintendent

Dr. Mark D. Berry
Four pastors attended the Exponential Church Planting event in
Orlando, FL in January. Over 200 Nazarenes were represented with District Office:
over 4,000 in attendance. Participants learned about church P.O. Box 680898
revitalization and church planting. (Pictured left to right: Pastors Blake Prattville, AL 36068
Mohling, Krystal Scott, Kent Pelton, Caleb Strickland, and DS Mark Berry.) Phone 334.365.3188

Welcome the Cordon Family from Nicaragua to our district. They will
be working alongside Pastors Abner & Lilliam Garcia by helping plant a new church out of
the Wallace Chapel facility. (Pictured left Cordon family with the Garcias, Dr. & Mrs. Berry.)

AL South District Teens graciously received an offering during the NYI Convention in March
so as to purchase a guitar for Rev. Cordon’s ministry. One teen gave up all her birthday
monies to assist in the offering!

Pastors Betty Peralta and Miguel Martinez continue to serve the new Hispanic church in the
facilities at Valley First. Iglesia del Nazareno de Roca Eterna received 14 new Nazarenes in
January, which is a historical first for the Valley area. (Pictured left Pastors Peralta and
Martinez with Dr. & Mrs. Berry. )

Don’t forget to receive a Multicultural Offering in August to help offset the expenses
of our Hispanic Ministries. Offerings may be given anytime throughout the year.

Grateful thanks to Mike Inscho

for leading our ASD Nazarene

NMI President: Diane Thompson
2019 EASTER OFFERING As followers of Christ, we are all called to be ambassadors of the
Kingdom throughout the world. When your church supports this fund, they support the
actions of Nazarenes loving others in Christ’s name, making Christlike disciples in all nations.
Resources are now available in English and Spanish at www.nazarene.org/generosity.
NMI PRESIDENTS AND PASTORS Your presence is greatly anticipated at the upcoming NMI Convention on
Tues., May 7th. Pastors, please make every effort to have your NMI President attend. New information will
be shared as well as a special time of prayer with our NMI leaders.
MISSIONARY HEALTH CARE OFFERING Everyone has empty prescription bottles. Your local
NMI president asks the people to bring empty bottles to church for a few weeks. Then wrap
each bottle with a blank label and write “Missionary Health Care”. On a Sunday in March
distribute the newly-labeled bottles to the people and challenge them to fill the bottle with
quarters for their offering to support missionary health care needs. Collect the filled bottles
on the last Sunday in May (Missionary Health Care month). How many old bottles will your
people be able to fill in 3 months? We hope churches will consider this special project.
NMI CONVENTION “PACKED WITH LOVE” INITIATIVE We would like to partner with our 31 district teens
and sponsors attending NYC in Phoenix this summer by providing school supplies to fill the 31 backpacks
they will be taking with them. The idea is for the teens to impact the city by showing compassion in action to
local middle school students. If you would like to participate, please call (205-331-9785) or email
(diane.thompson@ua.edu) Diane Thompson to let her know which items your church will bring to NMI
convention in May. This will help us collect all items. Let’s show our District NYI how much we love and
support them. Items needed (31 of each): college-ruled paper, wide-ruled paper, copy paper, pens, #2
pencils, hand pencil sharpener, pencil box, pack of crayons, pack of colored pencils, erasers, glue sticks,
tissues, hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes, dry erase markers, ruled and unruled index cards.

months. Cost is $250 and will be June 24th-28th. Contact Allen Averette for camp applications.
2019 NYI LUAU CONVENTION is in the books. Thank you to all of the Pastors that brought your teens to
help celebrate what has happened in 2018. Across our district we were able to collect 290 packages of
baby wipes for a ministry in Mobile that provides safety, protection and support to the victims of
domestic violence. Thank you for your compassionate hearts. The NYI was also able to take up an
offering to help purchase a guitar for one of our new Hispanic Pastors on the district. (See D.S. article
for details.) We are better together!
