tensions between the government and the
central bank on various issues.
2. According to sources, N.S. Vishwanathan,
who is the seniormost among the four Deputy
Governors, has been given charge till the
government finds a successor.
3. Mr. Vishwanathan was appointed as Deputy
Governor in July 2016.

No tax on withdrawals from NPS (Page No. 1)

1. The government announced changes to the National Pension


Scheme (NPS).
2. It increased the government’s contribution, exempting
withdrawals from tax, and also exempting up to ₹1.5 lakh of
contributions to the scheme from tax.
3. NPS subscribers could withdraw 60% of the corpus, with 40%
mandatorily being deposited in annuity schemes.
4. Of the 60%, one-third was taxable and two-third tax exempt.

the longest uninterrupted operation among all nuclear power
reactors.
4. While the KGS-1 is a Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor
(PHWR), Heysham-2 Unit-8 is an Advanced Gas Cooled Reactor
(AGR).
5. The KGS-1, located 56 km from Karwar, has been generating
electricity continuously since May 13, 2016
6. It is an indigenously-built PHWR run by domestic fuel
(uranium).
7. The Plant is operated by Nuclear Power Corporation of India.
