1 SCOPE

This Job Specification covers the requirements for instrument installations. This Specification
complements AF Job Spec. No. 7258-1600/1 "Technical Specification for Instruments". It
shall be read and applied in conjunction also with AF Job Spec. No. 7258-1610/2 "Technical
Requirements for Instrument Erection".

2 GENERAL

Instruments shall be installed according to the details shown herein, and with API RP-551
latest edition. Materials shall be as indicated in the above specifications. In this project
applicable is also API RP 1130 latest edition.

3 TAKE-OFF CONNECTIONS

A block valve shall be installed in each instrument connection and shall be located as close to
the vessel or piping as possible.

Take-off connections, including the first shut-off valve shall be in accordance with the
"Piping Specification" and installed by piping. Separate connections shall generally be
furnished for each instrument.

Vessel connections shall not be closer to tangent line than permitted by ASME CODE.

When bottom connection cannot be avoided, it shall extend at least 3 inches into the vessel.

4 CONNECTING PIPING

Connecting piping or tubing shall be suitable for line design conditions. Seal, condensate and
knockout pots, if used, shall be level and rigidly installed.

Drain or blow-down connections, for all manifolds containing fluids which will flash upon
draining or are toxic or hazardous to personnel shall be provided with a valved drain
connection.

5 INSTRUMENT AIR DISTRIBUTION

Instrument air take-off shall be from the top of the header. A drain connection shall be
provided at the end in any low point or each branch line. A minimum size of 1/2" shall be
used for take-off to individual consumers.

6 SUPPORTS

Supports shall be provided for instruments, piping and accessories to prevent strain on the
instruments and piping connections. The most suitable detail should be selected for each
application, or additional supports provided for special items, using the typical detail as a
guide.
