Quality Control Measurement Procedure

for H349030 SFT-157 T-Bar

Setup for T-Bar groove depth measurement

T-Bar groove depth measurement is possible using a standard caliper and a flat piece of metal
with a thru-way passage (Figure 1).

Schlumberger Private
Figure 1

The thickness of the piece of metal (a washer is used in this example) should be measured
(Figure 2).

Once the piece of metal is placed into the caliper for thickness confirmation, the caliper should
be re-zeroed and offset by this thickness (Figures 3 & 4).

Figure 4 Figure 3

Note: If NO digital caliper is available (no re-zero possible) write down this thickness and later
subtract the thickness from the groove depth measurement

Remove the brass inserts from the grooves, on both the moveable and the fixed jaws. Center the
piece of metal (washer in this example) over the groove on one of the jaws (Figure 5).

Centralize the calliper on the washer and open the calliper until the base of the calliper (Figure 6).

Note:
Should be
centralized at
the bottom of
the groove

Record the observed value. This is the depth of the groove. Make 3 to 4 other measurements
along the length of the jaw. Record all the values (Figure 7).

Ensure the caliper stem is centralized in the groove and use the narrowest side of the
stem for making the measurement. If necessary the measurement can be made by an
inspection company or machine shop.

Repeat the procedure for the opposite (moving) side jaw. Again make 4 measurements along the
length of the jaw (Figures 8 & 9).
Record all values.
