INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this study is to identify the behavior of using social media by the

students of General Santos City National Secondary School of Arts and Trade- Extension.

In order to investigate the concerns of students related to the context, the study was

carried out. Nowadays, social media has a big impact on people, especially to millennials.

Social Media is a website or application used to enable the users and share

contents in social networking.

According to Irfan Ahmad, Facebook has the most active users in social media

with 85% members/ registered users and 79% visitors/ active users, next to Facebook is

YouTube with 79% members/ registered users and 86% visitors/ active users. Facebook

Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram, Twitter, Google+, Linked In, Skype, Snapchat,

Pinterest, Line, Viber, WeChat, and tumblr are also decent contenders and fall behind the

top three.
Statement of the Problem

This study addresses the following question:

What is the status of academics performance of Grade 10 students?

What are the concerns of students when using social media?

What development should be developed based on the findings of the study on using social media?

Scope and Delimitation

The scope of the study delimits to the Social Media and its factors affecting student’s bahvior. The

locale of the study will be conducted at General Santos City National Secondary School of Arts

and Trade- Extension.

This study will be conducted in order to find out the student’s behaviour on using the social media.
The significance of the Study

This study will be benefited by the following:

Students. This study will help the students about the role of the school facilities

And the learning resources.

Teachers. This study will give an idea to the teachers about the importance of the academic

performance of their students. It can help them to do their strategies in terms of teaching their

students.

Parents. This study will give importance to how they handle their children's behavior. It will help

them to give their full attention.

Related Literature and Studies

Most of the students using social media networks as an instrument to disseminate information and

to communicate. They use and apply social media in their academics and research works and

their leisure time. According to Katrina Domingo, ABS CBN news (2018) about 93% of 252 Filipino

believed that they are changing the world while 88% are willing to pay more brands showed a

survey by International marketing and communication firm. "Consumers are being made more

aware of their responsibility," said Philip Tiongson, Havas Ortega Group's head of data and

analytics. The "Digital 2019: Global Digital Overview" showed Filipinos spend an average of 10

hours, 2 minutes on the internet via any device.

Facebook has the most number of active monthly users over 1 Billion, followed by Facebook

Messenger, WhatsApp, YouTube, etc. Nearly all Filipinos who have internet access go online to

use social media but only half said these affect their political views, with a majority aware of the

prevalence of fake news on the internet, a recent Pulse Asia survey show.

According to Smith (2013), although the famous Facebook created by Mark Zuckerberg

dominates social networking today because of its services that enable to post their thoughts, share

their ideas and playing games. This site started from a simple form of online communications called

The Bulletin Board System (BBS).

According to Lewis (2008), teenagers use the internet for the majority of their daily activities and

information gathering as opposed to older generations who resources like newspaper and

television. Social media has many benefits for the millennials because of its ability to enhance
connections by making them easily accessible. Students who are reluctant to speak up in a class

are participating in the discussion.

Learn new things, exchange ideas and helps hone their networking skills. It helps provide an

effective platform for enhancing your child's knowledge. It helps motivate children to get better at

communication and encourages freedom of self-expression. On the other side, Cyber Bullying is

another trend among social media sites. Cyber Bullying can have dangerous and potentially fatal

effects. It claims many victims every year. Always on our mind that social media can provide us

reliable and fraud effects especially those teens who are ignorance and more information can

overwhelm.

Currently, social media has its big impact on society and most people use it for everyday

information seeking. Social media isn't for everyone, it's now such massive part of our lives,

whether we embrace to reject the notion, that it can no longer be ignored. Children's attitude with

regard to social networking, reasons for using social networks, things done on social networks, and

topics used. School performance and social effects of social networking.

Nowadays, we are exposed to technologies and social networks are visible for all mankind. It

grows more as the society adopts the social media's activities and today innovators are always

creating new technologies that will make an impact on the daily lives of millions. Technology has

made the lives of many people easier.

Research Design

This last chapter represents the procedure in order to collect data analysis for this

research study.

A. Research Design

The study used descriptive type of research in Social Media and its factors

affecting the student’s behaviour in General Santos City National

Secondary School of Arts and Trade- Extension. Including the reason and

factors of the student’s behaviour in using social media.

B. Research Location
 The research was conducted and located at General Santos City National

Secondary School of Arts and Trade- Extension.

C. Research Respondents

The respondents of this study are the Grade 10 students in General Santos

City National Secondary School of Arts and Trade- Extension.

D. Data Gathering Procedure

The gathering procedure that we implied to this research is we asked 10

students about their behaviors in using social media and what are the

effects that they’ve notice and we found out that some students are using

social media rather than reviewing for the academic performances.

E. Research Instrument

The instrument used by the researcher to gather the data is an interview.

The interviewer asked 10 students on their behaviour on using social media.

F. Research Analysis Data

The answered survey questionnaire from the respondents are analyzed.

The gathered data will be utilized to formulate advices and to help them

understand on how the students acted and its behavior in using social

media.
