Organization Overview:

Pink Ribbon Pakistan is a volunteer driven non-funded, self-sustained and the only organization
in the country which is dedicatedly working on breast cancer nationwide since 2004.
Its scope of work is holistic from strategic interventions to public awareness including patient-
aid and service delivery. They strive to significantly reduce breast cancer mortality in the country
by creating widespread awareness through community engagement on prevention, early
detection and increased access to treatment. It has been running initiatives nationwide including
awareness raising, community mobilization, advocacy, media campaigns and service delivery.
Pink Ribbon Pakistan has empowered 1,050,000 women through community-based education on
breast health, provided free clinical breast cancer examination to 29,000 symptomatic patients
through expert doctors, free mammograms to 3,700 of the poorest-of the-poor women and
educated at least 650,000 young girls through direct interaction in 200 universities and colleges.

History:
Pink Ribbon organization is dedicatedly working on the issue of breast cancer with nationwide
outreach since 2004. It has launched Pakistan’s first national awareness program which was
initiated for the bold and open discussions on the sensitive topic of breast cancer and broke the
taboo regarding breast cancer where many women see it immoral to discuss it within their
family. After the success of this awareness program Pink Ribbon established linkages with
government institutions and corporate sector organizations. In 2005 International Public
Relations Association – IPRA gave Front Line Golden World Award to Pink Ribbon for
outstanding campaigning.
Media has played a vital role in sensitizing the public at large through highlighting the topic of
breast cancer at various platforms. Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s wife supported Pink Ribbon
through becoming its chairperson in 2006. For the setup of cancer registry in Pakistan, Pink
Ribbon in 2007 engaged itself with Health Ministry. Due to Pink Ribbon Pakistan breast cancer
campaign GoP announced a Rs. 2.55 billion breast cancer screening programs. In 2008 Pink
ribbon Pakistan introduced the chapter on breast elf-examination in the training manual of Lady
Health Workers.
Pink Ribbon Pakistan in 2010 signed MoU with Pakistan Atomic
Energy Cancer (PAEC) Hospitals to run a nation-wide breast cancer
screening program from October 25 to 27th, which included the public
awareness seminars, free examination and mammogram screening for
women. Pakistan’s first Breast Cancer Mobile Mammogram Clinic
was launched in 2013 by Pink Ribbon Campaign, in collaboration
with INMOL. 500,000 Pink Ribbon commemorative stamps were
issued by Pakistan Post. Pink Ribbon Pakistan was acknowledged as
best 3rd world campaigning organization model at Canadian Conference. On October 25, 2015
Pakistan’s most historic and famous monuments like Minar-e-Pakistan, Mizar-e-Quaid and

Wapda House lit up with pink lights in solidarity with breast cancer survivors to raise awareness
on the lethal disease.

HEC and Pink Ribbon Pakistan initiated Youth Awareness Program to reach out to almost 80
Universities and Colleges. After the success of Youth Awareness Program, the outreach has been
increased to almost 200 Universities and Colleges. Supreme court of Pakistan turned Pink in
support of Pink Ribbon Pakistan on the eve of 4th February also globally known as World Cancer
Day. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken a great initiative by announcing to observe
Breast Cancer Awareness Day during the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

After years of successful campaigning and provision of healthcare services like Mobile
Mammogram Unit, Pink Ribbon is building Pakistan’s first dedicated breast cancer hospital .
First milestone of 10,000 sq. feet has been completed and work on 2 nd phase is at full swing.
Pink ribbon aims to start OPD by June 2019.

Present Status:
After years of successful campaigning and provision of healthcare services like Mobile
Mammogram Unit, there came the moment when Mr. Omer Aftab laid the foundation stone of
Pakistan’s first ever dedicated Breast Cancer Hospital at Lahore. The 500 Million hospital
project was kicked off in 2017. By investing days and nights, the Pink Ribbon team achieved the
first milestone of 10,000 sq. feet grey structure, the first phase of the project in record time of

almost one year. Now, work on the second phase of the same worth is at full swing. Pink Ribbon
aims to start the Outdoor Patients Department (OPD) by June 2019. Pink Ribbon Hospital will be
a state-of-the-art one-stop facility for Breast Cancer diagnosis and treatment. The prime facilities
of the hospital will include:
 One stop Breast Cancer Clinic
 Radiology Department
 Chemotherapy Ward
 Surgical Unit

Mission:
We are setting up Pakistan’s first dedicated Breast Cancer Hospital which will include state of the
art Diagnostic and Treatment Facilities, Training Institute, Counseling Services, Research center
and Quality Assurance Certification.

Vision:
We strive to significantly reduce breast cancer mortality in the country by creating widespread
awareness through community engagement on prevention, early detection and increased access to
treatment.
