FOCUS SKILL READING TOPIC LANGUAGE FOR AESTHETIC USE

CONTENT STANDARD 3.1 Listen to, read and respond to literary works by
a. understanding and telling in one’s own words the story and poem heard and read, and giving one’s
opinion of the text;
LEARNING STANDARD
b. recognizing elements in a story such as characters and setting;
c. Explaining the message the writer is trying to convey and discussing how this relates to one’ life.
At the end of this lesson, students will be able to :
I. Reciting poems with feeling and expression and with correct pronunciation, intonation, stress and
rhythm.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
II. ii. Finding out the meaning of words by using the dictionary and /or contextual clues.
III. iii. Relating events, characters and values to one’s life.
IV. iv. Discussing the theme and message of stories and poems.
1) Teacher distributes the literature notes (including poem, short stories and drama that they have
learnt in form 4).
TEACHING & LEARNING 2) A selected student to recite the poem.
ACTIVITIES 3) 3., Teacher discusses and explains the poem by stanza.
4) 4. Teacher explain the figurative meaning of the poem, themes, moral values, and literary devices
such as alliteration, assonating, metaphor, similes and etc.
