Dear Mr.

Campbell,

Since it appears that I will be participating in our class for the better part of this

semester, I would only think it right and salutary that I should introduce myself and help

you to learn a little bit about me. My name is Ethan Sergei Conrad, and I am a freshman

here at UNCC, for the mean time. I love UNCC to death, but I will be transferring next

year to Arizona State to pursue a degree in aerospace engineering. As you can

probably tell, that means my current major is also engineering; electrical engineering to

be precise. I have always had an affinity for math and science, moreover physics and

the study of all things space related, however, this doesn’t mean that I hate writing as

many of my fellow engineers do. Given the freedom to write on something that I may

want to write about, I like to think that I do excellent work.

Regarding my interests, I like to play instruments and a few sports. I marched in a drum

core all throughout high school where I played the snare drum and the marimba (a big,

wooden xylophone basically). I also play the drum set although not very well. The

instruments I excel at, however, are the guitar and piano; an odd pairing but delightful to

be sure. I played a few sports when I was younger including hockey and baseball but

since then I have moved away from league sports. I know play ultimate frisbee in my

free time with some of my high school buddies but that is about it. I get a kick from

learning in my free time which is something you seldom hear said by people around my

age. I like to watch YouTube videos about some of the weird things that happen out

there in space as well as all sorts of history.

I have lived in Concord, NC, basically all my life; this does exclude my birthplace,

however. I was born in the Russian Federation but was adopted in the early 2000’s to

my current family. I did a DNA test thing to learn about my ancestry and I found out that

most of my genetic family is actually German, which is odd since I was born in Moscow.

Since I was adopted, I was able to grow up as the typical American millennial/gen z kid,

meaning I am old enough to remember watching vhs tapes and life before the

smartphone but too young to remember dial-up internet or Bill Clinton.

Hopefully this little introduction of myself helps to introduce me to you since we will be

spending plenty of time together through the duration of this semester. If not, then there

will be plenty of opportunity for you to learn more along the way.

Best regards,

Ethan S. Conrad
