1. Area of Research
Which subject area of your MSc does your thesis focus on? (e.g. airport planning,
fleet planning, safety management etc)

     

2. Thesis aim
What is the overall research aim of your thesis? Please state in one sentence.
What research question your thesis going to address. For example, a typical type of
research aim would be: “Do non-auditary factors have an effect on the level of noise
complaints airports receive from local residents?”

     

3. Proposed thesis title

The title should be based on your aim. (based on the example above: “An
investigation into the influence of non-auditory factors on community response to
aircraft noise”.

     

4. Origin of thesis idea

With whom have you discussed your research ideas? (Member of Cranfield faculty
staff/managers or contacts in industry etc.)

5. Research context
Please provide some background to the research aim. What problem / issue is your
research looking to address? Why is research necessary in this field? What related
research have you found? Demonstrate how your research is adding to the existing
body of literature and knowledge.

     

6. Research Objectives
In achieving your aim, there will be maybe 2 or 3 areas of investigation, milestones
or work packages. Essentially your research investigation will involve components
that will in combination deliver the research aim. Please list your research
objectives.

7. Research Methodology
Methodology is really about what techniques, models, approaches are being used
to meet each objective outlined above. For example, you could be using either one
or a combination of the following: an empirical model to analyse secondary data,
interviewing industry experts, sending out a questionnaire etc. Please explain
briefly why you are using this methodology.

     

8. Data
What are your sources of data / information?

     

9. Data risks
Identify any risks that you can think of that are associated with data collection or
access to data.
