2 RTDL-14-HE
The RTDL-14-HE is a standalone device that can read various types of electrical signals and
store data in its internal memory for later transmission or download. It records data over
time via sensors connected to its ports.
2.1 Features:
Displays date, time, readings, error message and basic settings on LCD.
RTDL-14-HE has an internal battery-backed real time clock that automatically
synchronizes its time with global time server (e.g.: time.windows.com) or an
external hardware GPS.
It has two levels of memory :
1
- Data transmission encrypted using AES 128 bits
- Data transmission using FIFO (First in first out) and LIFO (last in first out);
last in first out is useful for applications where real time data is more
important than historical data such as early warning systems.
- Data transmission according to predefined time intervals, threshold
conditions, polling from server.
- User definable data transmission interval according to battery voltage.
- Stored data can easily be downloaded into a pen drive without the use of
a computer
- Supports maintenance mode enabling data viewing without logging and
transmission
- Data transmission among various mediums using user defined priorities
Alarm Function
- For each parameter the user can set alarm condition when:
upper or lower thresholds are crossed
step changes with respect to older reading
value is in between user defined range
System error such as hardware failure etc.

Communication Interface Communication Protocols
Analog Inputs
Event Counter
Sensors like tipping bucket are connected in this port. The RTDL-14-He has four
such ports.
A single serial data interface input supports up to 10 SDI sensors. The RTDL-14-HE-
HE has three SDI ports.
Serial TTL
Serial RS232
This port is used for programming the datalogger. Apart from programming, this
port can be used to connect sensors with RS232 interface.
3
RS 485
The RS 485 port accommodates any type sensor with RS 485 interface. Several such
sensors can be connected to single RS485 port. The RDTL-11-HE has three RS485
ports.
Ethernet
In case there is not enough flash memory available, to avoid data overwriting, the
real time data are sent and stored to Micro SD card for future references. The data
from the micro card can be downloaded to a USB drive easily.
USB B
USB A
USB A port supports any external USB based storage media or a device for directly
downloading the data of micro SD card to it.
Output ports:
RTDL-14-He has eight isolated open drain digital output ports. It supports 0-24V
Input ports:
SPI ports:
I2C port:
Communication port is used mostly for transferring data from the logger to the
communication module for posting it online to the web-server.

3 Connecting data logger (RTDL-14-HE) and Communication modem
The communication module is connected to RTDL-14-HE through RS232 port using a 9-pin
serial cable.
4 Getting Started
Connect all the sensors properly to the data logger. (refer Chapter 5)
Turn ‘ON’ the device by plugging in the power cable. (refer Chapter 5.1)
Configure data logger using the provided software. (refer Chapter 6.2)

6 Configuration
The RTDL-14-HE can be configured locally using Wscada Configuration Application which
needs to be installed in your laptop.
System Requirement
Before installing Wscada Configuration Application make sure the following software are
installed.
Windows XP or above
.Net frame work
Installing
After you have successfully installed the above mentioned system requirement and
connected data logger to a PC, follow the below given steps:
1. Open the Config App folder (provided by RTS) and run the application by clicking on
10
6.1 Wscada Configuration Application
Top Panel
Clicking on it will read the data in a data logger and replace your existing configuration.
When clicked on Chip Eraser will delete all the settings in a data logger.
Click for adding a new sensor. Newly added sensor will be listed in left panel.
11
The different fields in the Wscada Configuration Application specify different settings as given below:
a. Device:
AES Encryption: The atuthentication code for the encryption is a 16 digit code. The
check box for the ‘AES Encryption’ is for enabling and disabling the
encryption. It is necessary that the AES Encryption code be the
same for both the device and the web interface.
SNTP Poll Interval: Defines interval at which device tries to syncronize its time with
the configured time server.
Firmware Check: Specifies time at which the datalogger checks for any firmware for
upgrade.
b. Communication:
12
c. Modem 1/ Modem 2:
“Priority” defines the level of priority (High, Medium or Low) to post the data to the
web server. The modem with the highest priority posts the data first.
d. Iridium:
Retry Count: Number of trials device attempts to post data through iridium.
Post Interval: Indicates at what time the iridium is to send data to the server.
Poll Interval: Indicates interval at which iridium is to poll for settings from the
web. (-1 indicates that it is disabled )
13
Ring Interval: indicates interval at which iridium communicates with the server
to ask for any settings in the web.
Click OK.
Enter all the fields as described above.
Click Write.
Note: This config application has an additional feature where all the configuration files are
saved in a folder and the datalogger can be configured by downloading these files directly.
It reduces the havoc of re-entering the fields for any particular station each time the
datalogger is configured for that station. For this:
Select from the list of required Device ID and its corresponding config file.
Click Select.
Note: Sensor settings can be read and modified locally using Wscada Configuration
Application (refer Appendix II).
14
7 Sensor Setting
To add sensors to the datalogger, form for each individual parameter is saved through a
web-based interface.
Once all the required parameters are saved in web-interface, the sensor settings in the data
logger can be synced either locally or remotely.
The settings are synced locally using an application “Wscada Communication Module
Simulator”.
Enter all the necessary fields that match the configuration of datalogger.
Click Start to sync all the sensor settings into the datalogger.
15

In such cases, check for proper power connectivity or any lose connections and
make sure all the cables, wires and /or connecting medium are tightly inserted. Also
make sure that the cables and wires are inserted to their appropriate points and
are not misconnected in any way to other places.
If, following all the aforementioned steps does not make the system operational
then you are required to contact RTS immediately. Do not attempt to further repair
the system or apply any other measures to ameliorate it.
