2 RTDL-14-HE

The RTDL-14-HE is a standalone device that can read various types of electrical signals and
store data in its internal memory for later transmission or download. It records data over
time via sensors connected to its ports.

RTDL-14-HE is a WSCADA based device where it can completely be configured and

maintained through a central web server, allowing users to configure and control the data
logger via the internet without requiring a circuit switched data nor a fixed IP address. This
feature of RTDL-14-HE makes it perfect for remote and unattended areas.

2.1 Features:

 Displays date, time, readings, error message and basic settings on LCD.
 RTDL-14-HE has an internal battery-backed real time clock that automatically
synchronizes its time with global time server (e.g.: time.windows.com) or an
external hardware GPS.
 It has two levels of memory :

- Internal 512 Mb Flash memory

- Micro SD Card supporting upto 32GB. The 512Mb flash memory uses
cyclic data storage technique. Moreover, at the end of each hour, it
stores all the recorded values into the microSD card as a redundant
backup.

 Internal watchdog timer for system failure recovery

 It can be configured to post stored data to two servers simultaneously.
 Firmware in datalogger can be upgraded remotely through the internet.
 Programmable Signal Processing

- No need to learn programming

- Easy to use linear function implementation
- Complex functions implementation using black box functionalities to
derive virtual parameters from one or more parameters.
 Data Transmission and downloading
- Transmission protocols using HTTP, FTP and SMTP
- Redundant communication using ethernet, cellular, satellite, Radio, PPP
over landline

1
- Data transmission encrypted using AES 128 bits
- Data transmission using FIFO (First in first out) and LIFO (last in first out);
last in first out is useful for applications where real time data is more
important than historical data such as early warning systems.
- Data transmission according to predefined time intervals, threshold
conditions, polling from server.
- User definable data transmission interval according to battery voltage.
- Stored data can easily be downloaded into a pen drive without the use of
a computer
- Supports maintenance mode enabling data viewing without logging and
transmission
- Data transmission among various mediums using user defined priorities

 Data Logger Configuration

- Settings in datalogger can be configured either locally using a software or
remotely through a central web configuration software.
- The online configuration works without CSD or fixed IP address
requirement, which is no longer provided as a service in many countries
- Settings changed locally are synchronized with the central web
configuration server automatically.

 Data Acquisition and Interface Support

- Sensors, modems can be communicated directly for configuration and
debugging, locally and online.
- New sensor libraries can be downloaded to the datalogger through web
configuration server.
- Supports IP camera using ethernet port; time and event triggered image
log and transmission
- Data logging using pre set time intervals and threshold conditions
- Power control of external sensors and devices for minimizing power
consumption
- User configurable flagging of data when not in a user defined range

 Alarm Function
- For each parameter the user can set alarm condition when:
 upper or lower thresholds are crossed
 step changes with respect to older reading
 value is in between user defined range
 System error such as hardware failure etc.

 Alarm triggered actions can be user defined

- Logging of alarm message

- Sending SMS, Email, and TCP/IP using predefined messages
- Triggering digital output for siren, displays etc.

make sure all the cables, wires and /or connecting medium are tightly inserted. Also
make sure that the cables and wires are inserted to their appropriate points and
are not misconnected in any way to other places.

If, following all the aforementioned steps does not make the system operational
then you are required to contact RTS immediately. Do not attempt to further repair
the system or apply any other measures to ameliorate it.

10.2.2 Errors

problem set date and time using Wscada Configuration Application (refer
Chapter 6.1)

Micro SD Error

- Occurs when no micro SD card is inserted into the datalogger.

Flash Error

- Occurs when there is problem with the flash in the hardware.

Set Device ID Error

 Only Poll no Post

 Check serial connectivity between datalogger and communication
module
 Check configurations set for poll and post interval (in most of the
cases, choose poll interval to be at least 4 times larger than post
interval)
 Properly check posting rules defined in the web and set in the
datalogger

 Only Post no Poll

 Connection unreliable , cannot sustain connection for a long time
 Modem not turning On
 Check if the modem you are trying to observe is the primary
modem set in the datalogger (if you are observing modem on
while resetting)
 Try using different modem or PCB

23

Click Yes.

On the left panel, all the sensors of the datalogger are listed. Now, settings for each sensor
can be changed by clicking the sensor parameter of your concern.

7. Once necessary modifications are made, click Write on top panel to set the sensor settings
into the datalogger.

Offset and Scale Calculation for Various Sensors

1. Radar Level Sensor

Default:

Offset=0

Scale=1

 With default values, observe the RLS reading in datalogger

Setting Offset & Scale:

Offset = current water level shown by staff gauge + RLS reading

Scale = -1

2. Compact Bubbler Sensor

Default:

Offset = 0

Scale = 1

 With default values, observe the PLS reading in datalogger

Setting Offset & Scale:

Offset = current water level shown by staff gauge-CBS reading

Scale = 1

Error Calculation and Offset Setting

After installation, if there is discrepancy between the true water level and the reading shown
by sensor, offset has to be corrected. So,

Calculate the error:

Error= True water level – Observed water level (i.e. reading shown by RLS or CBS)

Set new offset:

New offset = old offset + error

APPENDIX III

Communication Protocol
The system implements CDMA/GPRS data transmission module following the given protocol:

 Data is sent using HTTP protocol

 GET or POST method is used for sending/setting the data in the device
 Latest encryption technology is used for transmitting data
 Each unit of information is separated by a unique character

In the event of technical errors or network problems, the system switches to data transmission
through Iridium satellite services.

Data packet format for sending data from datalogger to remote server

The datalogger sends the data using HTTP protocol using POST method. The data is transmitted in
binary format and the location to where the data is programmed into the data logger.

The request format is:

Device ID Security Comman Data Log Read Write Log1 ……. Log N
Code d ID Count Pointer Pointe .
r

Note: All Values are Little Endian

Device Code (32 Bit Integer) : Identifies the device

Security Code (32 Bit Integer) : Verifies the device

Command ID (32 Bit Integer) : Must be 0x00000095

Data ID (16 Bit Integer) : Must be 3

Log Count (8 Bit Integer) : Number of logs included in the packet (N)

Read Pointer (32 Bit Integer) : Identifies the read position in the data logger’s circular
buffer

Write Pointer (32 Bit Integer) : Identifies the write position in the data logger’s circular
buffer

The Log format is:

Security Code Response Response Data ID

Category (32 Bit Integer) : Identifies the parameter

1 : Rainfall

2 : Waterlevel

5 : Temperature

8 : Humidity

10 : Air Pressure

19 : Wind Speed

20 : Wind Direction

30 : Solar Irradiance

Value (32 Bit Float value) : Value of the parameter

Timestamp (32 Bit) : 32 Bit FAT format date time

Interval (32 Bit Integer) : Logging interval

The response to this request from the server is:

Security Code Response Response Data ID

Security Code (32 Bit Integer) : Verifies the device

Response ID (32 Bit Integer) : Must be 0x80000095

Response (32 Bit Integer) : Must be 0xFFFFFFFF

Data ID (32 Bit Integer) : Must be 3

All the data transmission (request and response) is encrypted with predetermined AES Key (128 bit)
