Chapter 4

Conclusion and Recommendation

Findings

Research Data:

According to the survey 55 % of the respondents lives in Bulacan and Caloocan. 15% of
them are from Lagro, 12.5 % from Fairview, 10 % from Novaliches and the remaining
percentage are from Almar.

Interpreting Data:

Based on our interpretation most of the students’ home were far away from their school.
From their house up to school has a long distance and big impact.
Research Data:
In figure 2, it shows that more than half of the students in MCS are commuters. It
occupies 62.5 % of the chart. And another remaining percentage were service rider.
Interpreting Data:
Based on the figure, a large number of high school students were commuters. Most of
the high school students commutes whenever they go to school. Only few of them has a
service.
Research Data:

As figure 3 shows that 50% of the students go to school on 5:31am-6:00am while the
other 7.5 % of the students go to school on 6:01am-6:45 am. And the remaining
percentage of students go to school on 5:00am-5:30am.

Interpreting Data:

The research says that majority of the students go to school on 5:31am-6:00am because
there was still no construction of MRT-7 while the other students go to school on 6:01am-
6:45am because they are just near the school while the remaining ones go to school on
5:00am - 5:30am because they are most likely to be far from school and others are service
riders.
Research Data:

As can be seen in figure 4, 42.5% of the students go to school on 5:31am-6:00am

because of the hectic schedule of the construction of MRT-7 while the 35% of the students
go to school on 6:01am-6:45am while the remaining ones go to school on 5:00am-
5:30am.

Interpreting Data:

Due to heavy traffic caused by the construction of MRT-7 the number of students who go
to school on 5:31am-6:00am was increased while to other students go to school on
6:01am-6:45am because they are most likely near the school or not affected by the
construction of MRT-7 and the remaining students who goes to school on 5:00am-5:30am
decreases due to the heavy traffic caused by this construction.
Research Data:

In the survey form 77.5% that the students answered yes, they are affected in the on-
going construction of MRT-7 in going to school and the remaining 22.5% are the students
who answered no, they are not affected in the ongoing construction of MRT-7.

Interpreting Data:

77.5% is the majority of the students who are affected in the construction of MRT-7.
Research Data:

As can be seen in this figure, 71 % of the students skip their breakfast because they are
in rush. While 41.9 % of them are doing community services caused by tardiness. And
35.5 % lacks out of time in preparation for school. The 19.4 % are late submission of
requirements. The remaining 6.4 % chose others, they tend to have offenses and caused
them to be later in school.

Interpreting Data:

The finding shows that almost all of the students of MCS greatly affects their everyday
commute in fact majority skip their breakfast to arrive early at school. Most of them do
community services as a result of their tardiness. And also they run out of time in
preparation for themselves before going to school. Most of the students experienced this
due to construction of MRT 7.
Recommendation

Through analysis of the data and research conducted for this study, the following
recommendations for the students of Mater Carmeli School are suggested in order to
lower the rate of students who are experiencing the said negative effects caused by the
construction.

Say “no” to procrastination. Procrastinating results students tend to stay awake all
night just to finish the given tasks and when this happens there’s a big possibility that it
will be hard for them to wake up the next morning. It is a domino effect. Once a student
wakes up late, he/she will be in rush, will skip breakfast and so on and so forth.

Students need to consider the location of their house especially now that there is
a major construction that really do cause a heavy traffic congestion, students need to be
aware and try to adjust their schedule of going to school.

Recommendations for Future Research

With the limited time given to do the survey, the result of this research is not 100%
reliable. We conducted the survey on 40 Junior High school students out of more than
800 JHS students in the campus. In the said survey, 31 correspondents were affected by
the MRT construction. But because we only surveyed 40 students, this does not mean
that more students are affected by the said construction and we might get a different
result from the whole Junior High School student population.

If the research would be conducted again, we highly suggest that the survey should
be conducted to all students in Mater Carmeli School especially to our target respondents,
the Junior High School students.
Conclusion

This study is about the effects of heavy traffic jams caused by the MRT-7
construction to the academic performance of Carmelian students. Different articles and
journals of previous study related to this research have been referred. Based on the
survey, the six given questions were used to identify the negative effects of traffic
congestion caused by the said construction to the academic performance of Carmelian
students. The study found out that Carmelian students do face several problems caused
by the heavy traffic jams, this includes: late submission of requirements specially if the
deadline of the given task is before 7:00 A.M., doing community services as a result of
their tardiness, lack of time preparing themselves for the whole day like getting their books
in the locker or fixing their things, and lastly they skip breakfast because they’re in rush
and for them to arrive early at school.

The research revealed that the heavy traffic jams caused by MRT-7 construction
are not the only reason why Carmelian students are experiencing these problems but
also the distance between the students’ residents and the school’s location.
Transportation problems like this is a serious one, it does not need gentle explanation
and might take long time to be solved but as for the moment, students need to temporarily
adjust their time for the MRT-7 construction because the said construction was made for
the better outcome of our transportation in the near future.
