INTRODUCTION

Mivan shuttering is a
fast-paced
construction
technique which
offers strength and
durability to a
building by use of
aluminium
formworks.
Methodology
The basic element of these structures is panel.
It is made up of aluminium which is of
light weight
It yields minimum deflection under
loading
These are manufactured in different
sizes as requirement of the project

The panels are made thick from high

strength aluminium alloy with a
4mm thick plate and 6mm ribbing
behind to stiffen the the panels
Construction Technique
1.Setting up the Reinforcement – The wall reinforcing steel is given from the
footing to the bottom level of slab as given in the design .
It is used to give a structure to the building and support the building.
2.Placement of Aluminium
formwork – Along the wall
reinforcing steel , prefabricated room
sized walls and floor slabs are erected.
The aluminium alloy slabs are
accurately made and are easy to
handle. Spaces for Windows ,ducts
,doors , and other features such as
staircases , faced panels and chajjas are
also integrated in these structures . The
forms are joint together using the pin
wedge system
, which can be dismantled quickly
after the concrete structure is made .
Components of Mivan Frames
Wall Components
Grippers
These are used to hold the
panels of the walls and
prevent them from
displacement.
These are made up of
aluminium of thickness
3mm.
FOR STAIR CASES

Stair cases are also

built by placing the
Mivan Shutterings in
the required shape
as size
3.Pouring of Concrete – After the casing of walls
and slab is done , high quality self compacting
concrete is poured , which takes forms and
shapes of the frame used, which is later
removed and gives monolithic structure.
After the removal of the
shuttering plain and
smooth walls are
obtained which
requires no plastering
ADVNTAGES OF MIVAN STRUCTURES
• Increased Durability – The durability of the completed
structure is more than general brick masonry walls.

• Lesser no of joints – thereby reducing the leakages and

enhancing the durability.

• Integral and Smooth finishing of wall and slab – Smooth

finish of aluminium can be seen vividly on walls.

• More seismic resistance – The box type construction

provides more seismic resistance of the structure.

• Negligible maintenance – Strong built up of concrete needs

no maintenance.
• Faster completion – Unsurpassed construction speed
can be achieved due to light weight of forms.

• Lesser manual labour – Lesser labour is required for

carrying formworks.

• Simplified foundation design due to consistent load

distribution

• The natural density of concrete wall result in better

sound transmission coefficient.
LIMITATIONS OF MIVAN
• Concealed services become difficult due to small thickness of
components.

• It requires uniform planning as well as uniform elevations to be cost

effective.

• Modifications are not possible in this type of structures as the members

are cast in RCC .

• The formwork requires number of spacer, wall ties etc. which problems of
seepage during rainy seasons.

• Heat of Hydration is high due to shear walls.

• Due to box-type construction shrinkage cracks are likely to appear

Comparison between Mivan formwork and conventional formwork

S.No Characteristics Mivan formwork Conventional

1 Speed of construction Four days cycle per floor Ten days cycle per floor
2

Quality of surface finish Excellent, Bad

plastering is not required
3
Pre-planning of form work Required Not Required
system
4
Type of construction Cast in situ cellular Simple RCC framed
construction construction
5 Wastage of form work material Very less In great amount
6

Accuracy in construction Accurate construction Less than Aluform

7
Coordination between different Essential Not necessarily required
agencies
8
Resistance to earthquake Good resistance Less than Aluform
9
Reusage value 250-300 50
CONCLUSION
• It is a good advancement in
construction field which is very
useful for mass housing with little
disadvantages.
