(Vertical Hooper Clarifiers), Filtration Units (Rapid Sand),
Disinfection Unit, Clear Water Tank and Clear Water Pumping
Station; 0.98km long DN600 Clear Water Main; Reticulation System
consisting of 4 pressure zones each with service reservoir and
distribution networks with total pipe length of 18.7km diameter
ranging from DN80 to DN600; Wastewater Management system
consisting of Sewer Lines, Drying Beds and Landfill. It also consisted
of a G+2 chemical building for chemical storage, dose preparation
and offices. Access Roads to the source, treatment plant, booster
stations and service reservoirs were also part of the project.
Activities performed: Studied the existing situation water supply
system of the town; estimated/assessed existing and future water
demand of the town; estimated source and supply balance; prepared
the detail design of the treatment plant and pumping stations;
conducted economic analysis of pumping stations; prepared
Hydraulic Modelling of the Reticulation System using WaterCAD
Computer Modelling Package; performed data collection and model
calibration based on the pressure logging and flow records;
prepared detailed design drawings, specification, bill of quantities;

the capacity of existing water sources and proposing addition
sources to meeting the growing demand of the town for the coming
20 years. It also involved the construction of three pumping stations

ranging from DN50 to DN600. A G+1 administrative building and
access roads to the new source site, pumping stations and reservoirs
were part of this project.

town and expected number of public and industrial consumers;
estimated the water demand of town and projected for the selected
design horizons; designed well collector pipes, pressure mains and
distribution network using WaterCAD Computer Modelling Package;

stations; proposed implementation scenarios based on the allocated

Water Pumping Station; 0.9km long DN600 Raw Water Main; Rapid
Sand Filtration based Treatment Plant consisting of Cascade Aerator,
Rapid Mixers (Hydraulic and Mechanical), Sedimentation Tanks
(Vertical Hooper Clarifiers), Filtration Units (Rapid Sand),
Disinfection Unit, Clear Water Tank and Clear Water Pumping
Station; 0.98km long DN600 Clear Water Main; Reticulation System
consisting of 4 pressure zones each with service reservoir and
distribution networks with total pipe length of 18.7km diameter
ranging from DN80 to DN600; Wastewater Management system
consisting of Sewer Lines, Drying Beds and Landfill. It also consisted
of a G+2 chemical building for chemical storage, dose preparation
and offices. Access Roads to the source, treatment plant, booster
stations and service reservoirs were also part of the project.

Main project features: The project intends to provide adequate
water supply for Dire Dawa town with a design population of
618,762 in 2030 and 824,928 in 2040. The project components are
21 deep boreholes from three well fields, transfer and distribution
pipes of up to 900mm with total length of 102km, storage reservoirs
of 25,000m3 reservoir including three 6000m3 reservoirs, three
pumping station at three wellfields, one main booster stations are
among the main project components.

Main Project Features: The water supply project included evaluating
the capacity of existing water sources and proposing addition
sources to meeting the growing demand of the town for the coming
20 years. It also involved the construction of three pumping stations
to lift the water from the newly proposed sources to the town, eight
service reservoirs and 35km long distribution pipes with diameter
ranging from DN50 to DN600. A G+1 administrative building and
access roads to the new source site, pumping stations and reservoirs
were part of this project.
Activities Performed: Studied the existing water supply and
sanitation situation of the town; projected the population of the
town and expected number of public and industrial consumers;
estimated the water demand of town and projected for the selected
design horizons; designed well collector pipes, pressure mains and
distribution network using WaterCAD Computer Modelling Package;
designed the three pumping stations together with the
Electromechanical Engineer and conducted economic analysis of the
stations; proposed implementation scenarios based on the allocated
budget for the project; designed access roads for the well field and
the pumping station using AutoCAD Civil 3D; prepared bill of
quantities, prepared engineering cost estimates; prepared tender
and contract documents; advised the Client on procurement
procedures and strategies; prepared all design reports and drawings;
liaison with the Client and other stakeholders; attended meetings;
presented the outcome of the design works for the stakeholders
