ABSTRACT: -
The rapid growth of industry and advancement of technology has resulted in reduction of human efforts,
the main reason for which being machines. Machines are playing an important role in our life. In this
project, we use internet to establish communication between the user and Monitoring unit. In this
proposed system, we are monitoring and controlling the speed of Induction motor. This system consists
of microcontroller, Relay, Relay Driver, Charge Control, Induction motor and NODE MCU ESP 8266 WI-FI
module. Here we are controlling the speed of the motor using webpage through WI-FI. Simultaneously,
we can also control the speed of the motor whether to be rotated in low, medium or high speed.
OBJECTIVE
1. Controlling speed of induction motor by using microcontroller.
2. Get information about running status of motor on PC by using IOT technology.
3. To protect motor from overloading.
INTRODUCTION
In addition, the availability of fast-processing, stable and sensitive products provided particular benefits
in industrial automation. As a result of the developments in Communication technologies, systems are no
longer monitored and controlled by personnel using classic methods, but automatically by computer
controlled or remote-controlled devices. Industrial environmental conditions have been upgrading day by
day with this newly introduced automatic techniques as a result of getting rid of the conventional
procedures of manufacturing increasing huge workloads. The next generation industries will be
Technological developments have enabled to be taken classic systems place by Automatic and advanced
systems definitely more advanced and automatic as compared with existing ones. This brings on a new
terminology of “Smart Industries” in this new era of Monitoring as well as controlling of various Industrial
applications. As an emerging technology brought about rapid advances in modern wireless
telecommunication, Internet of Things (IOT) has attracted a lot of attention and is expected to bring
benefits to numerous applications. The newly introduced concept of “Internet of Things” (IOT) is
providing a helping hand to achieve the Industrial automation through remote access. In IOT each device
or devices constituting a system will be able to communicate with the other devices or system in the
same premises over a common platform. Hence this leads to exchange of relevant data, statistics, logs
and various other parameters information among various devices to improve their performance, which
will help industries to have better productivity, management and increased throughput.
] In 2003, a paper on , “IOT Based Speed Control of Single Phase Induction Motor”.
The main objective of this paper is to control the speed of single phase introduction
motor using IOT technology. Internet is the most widely used high speed and easily accessible
communication medium in the modern day world.
[2] In 2017, a paper on , “Speed Monitoring And Controlling of Motor Using Internet of
Things (IOT) Enhanced With WI-FI”.
The rapid growth of industry and advancement of technology has resulted in
reduction of human effort, the main reason for which being machines are playing an important
role in our life. In this project, we use internet to establish communication between the user and
monitoring unit. In this proposed system, we are monitoring and controlling the speed of DC
motor as well as direction of the motor. This system consist of microcontroller.
The 230V AC supply is first stepped down to 12V AC using a step down transformer.
This is then converted to DC using bridge rectifier.
The AC ripples is filtered out by using a capacitor and given to the input pin of voltage
regulator 7805.
At output pin of this regulator we get a constant 5V DC which is used for MC and other ICs in
this project.
MICROCONTROLLER
We have used the Microcontroller of 80C51 family i,e AT89S52 manufactured by
ATMEL.
It is a smaller Computer.
Has on-chip RAM, ROM, TIMER, COUNTER, I/O ports...
Features of MC
Pin description
NODEMCU ESP8266 is very highly integrated System on Chip (SoC) that includes an Xtensa
LX106 core processor, RAM, and RF front-end allowing a Wi-Fi TCP/IP stack to be
implemented on board with just a few components.
Features of ESP 8266
It provides capabilities for 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n, supporting WPA/WPA2),
general-purpose input/output (16 GPIO),
Inter-Integrated Circuit (I²C).
analog-to-digital conversion (10-bit ADC).
Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI),
UART (on dedicated pins, plus a transmit-only UART can be enabled on GPIO2)
pulse-width modulation (PWM).
Relay:
A relay is an electrically operated switch.
Current flowing through the coil of the relay creates a magnetic field which attracts a
lever and changes the switch contacts.
The coil current can be on or off so relays have two switch positions and have double
throw (changeover) switch contacts as shown in the diagram.
Relays allow one circuit to switch a second circuit which can be completely separate from
the first.
For example a 12 voltage battery circuit can use a relay to switch a 230V AC mains
circuit.
There is no electrical connection inside the relay between the two circuits, the link is
magnetic and mechanical.
To drive relay we used ULN2003 relay driver IC.
Speed monitoring and speed control of induction motor is done successfully by using IOT
technology.
The cost of manufacturing of project is also cheap.
