THE SPIRIT SOUL & THE SUPER SOUL

According to Vedas, there are two types of souls. The heart of every living being contains the individual
soul (Jivātmā) and the Super Soul (Paramātmā).

"Yet in this body there is another, a transcendental enjoyer, who is the Lord, the supreme proprietor,
who exists as the overseer and permitter, and who is known as the Supersoul." - (Sri Krishna, Bhagavad-
Gita 13.23)

#The_jivatma_and_Paramatma_are_not_one_or_equal : -
The major difference between Jivatma (soul) and Paramatma (Supersoul) is that, Jivatma is mayadhin, that
is, he is under the influence of maya (illusion). But Paramatma is mayadhis, that is, He is the Lord of maya
(illusion). And both over the atma or jivatma (individual soul) and maya (illusion) rules one Lord who is
known as God, Bhagavan, parmatma, etc. Jivatma (soul) is anu, and Paramatma (Supersoul) is Bhivu...

one God.”

them." - (Bhagavad-Gita, 15.17)

I am celebrated both in the world and in the Vedas as that Supreme Person." - (Bhagavad-Gita, 15.18)

“The Personality of Godhead said: Many, many births both you and I have passed. I can remember all of
them, but you cannot!” – (Bhagavad-Gita 4.5)
#All_the_remembrances_of_jivatma_come_from_Paramatma : -
The Supreme Lord is situated as Paramatma in everyone’s heart, and it is from Him that all remembrances
are initiated. The living entitie (jivatma or soul) forgets everything of his past life, but he has to act
according to his past deeds. Required knowledge is supplied to him, and remembrance is given to him, and
he forgets, also, about his past life.

Srimad Bhagavatam 11.11.6-7 and Upanishads (Mundaka Upanishad 3.1.1, Shvetashvatara Upanishad
3.20, 4.6-7) teach that jiva/atma and Paramatma (Supersoul) are situated in the heart of the body like
two birds on a tree.
dvā suparṇā sayujā sakhāyā
samānaṁ vṛkṣaṁ pariṣasvajāte
tayor anyaḥ pippalaṁ svādy atty
anaśnann anyo 'bhicākaśīti
"There are two birds in one tree. One of them is eating the fruits of the tree, while the other is
witnessing the actions. The witness is the Lord, and the fruit-eater is the living entity." - (Śvetāśvatara
Upaniṣad 4.6)

Both the soul (Jivatma) and the Supersoul (Paramatma) are eternal, full of bliss, full of knowledge, and
part and parcels of God. BEING A PART OF GOD DOES NOT MEAN THE SOULS OR JIVATMAS ARE GOD, just
as a drop of water from the ocean is part of the ocean but it can never be the ocean. We have the same
qualities as God, but in minute quantity. That's why we say God is great and we are not.

In the Bhagavad-gita, Chapter 15, text 7, Lord Krishna said that Jivatmas are ETERNALLY FRAGMENTAL
PARTS OF HIM.

MAMAIVAMSO jiva-loke
JIVA-BHUTAH SANATANAH
"The LIVING ENTITIES in this conditioned world are MY ETERNAL FRAGMENTAL PARTS."-- (Lord Krishna,
Bhagavad-Gita 15.7)
