Details of activities performed in week 1

 Duration December 2014 (22 Dec – 29 Dec)

Basic knowledge regarding courts.

Subject Area 1. Differences between the High Court

and subordinate courts, and the Supreme

Court.

2. What matters are referred in which

court?

3. Court of first instance.

I visited the many subordinate courts of

I was taught about the hierarchy of


courts and the differences between the
civil and criminal courts. And instructed
to visit them all and analyse.

me. I was just a rookie. They’d rather

Magistrate.

I observed that:

both, the same person. Only the

office changes while performing,

or discharging different duties.

2. In civil jurisdiction the person is a

judge and in criminal jurisdiction

the same person becomes the

3. Saving certain situations, the

subordinate courts are the courts

of first instance. In criminal cases

it is magistrate class I & II

depending on the subject matter,

and in civil cases it is District

court.

Duration December 2014-15 (30 December – 5 January

The Indian contract Act, 1872 and

Subject Area Transfer of Property Act, 1882.

I was given basic introduction to transfer


of property act, 1882,
There were court visits 6 days in week.

Court visit 1. I visited only the subordinate

courts and not the High Court,

2. Both the civil and criminal, but

mainly civil courts

to study only the Transfer of Property

on the topics and he wanted me to see
the proceedings.

firstly, I was still learning the law, and

secondly, It was my first semester, I didn’t

know much about it.


I was debriefed about the property
related case by Adv. Vipul gupta, the one

it like a story.

certain provisions under it.

2. Indian contract act defines laws

relating to certain contracts and

relation arising between the

speaking there is no language

barrier to converse, unlike the

High Court and the Supreme

court where the official language

is English.
