INTRODUCTION
Quality Management is an approach to the art of management that originated in Japanese
industry in the 1950's and has become steadily more popular in the West since the early 1980's.
Total Quality is a description of the culture, attitude and organization of a company that aims
to provide, and continue to provide, its customers with products and services that satisfy their
needs. The culture requires quality in all aspects of the company's operations, with things being
done right first time, and defects and waste eradicated from operations.
TQM is the way of managing for the future, and is far wider in its application than just assuring
product or service quality – it is a way of managing people and business processes to ensure
complete customer satisfaction at every stage, internally and externally. TQM, combined with
effective leadership, results in an organisation doing the right things right, first time.
Many companies have difficulties in implementing TQM. Surveys by consulting firms have
found that only 20-36% of companies that have undertaken TQM have achieved either
significant or even tangible improvements in quality, productivity, competitiveness or financial
return. As a result many people are sceptical about TQM. However, when you look at
successful companies you find a much higher percentage of successful TQM implementation.
QUALITY:-
1. Quality means fit nests for use.
2. Quality means productivity, competitive cost, and timely delivery, total customer
satisfaction.
3. Quality means conformance to specification and standard.
4. Conformance to requirements.
5. Quality is what the customer says
6. Quality means getting everyone to do what they have agreed to do and to do it right the first
time and every time.

TOTAL QUALITY:-
It means all the people of the organization are committed to product quality by doing right
things right, first time, every time by employing organization resource to provide value to
customer.

TOTAL QUALITY MANAGEMENT: -

It is the process designed to focus external/internal customer expectation preventing problems
building, commitment to quality in the workforce and promoting to open decision making.

TOTAL:
Everyone associated with the company is involved in continuous improvement, in all functional
area, at all level.

QUALITY:
Customer express and implied requirement is met fully.

MANAGEMENT:
Executive are fully committed
Decision in a planned way.
To maintain existing lever of quality
To improve existing lever of quality.
Effective utilization of resource.

PRINCIPLES OF TQM:-
1. Delight the customer

2. Management by fact

3. People based management

4. Continuous improvement

5. Strong leadership

6. Quality system measure& record

7. Team work, Team accountable, correct problem

8. People oriented technology, speed.

FOUR C’S OF TQM

1. Commitment 2. Competence

3. Communication 4. Continuous improvement

When we talk in terms of Software Project Management, we talk about the CMMI model for
software testing to achieve the said quality. The brief about the CMMI model :-

CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration) is all about processes. It is a process

improvement approach that examines your current processes in place and identifies their
weaknesses and strengths. Then appropriate process changes, improvements and
modifications are made to change these weaknesses into strengths.

CMMI model is a collection of set of very effective and reliable best practices that can help
an organization improve quality, standards and efficiency. It consists of several process areas
such as configuration management, project planning, etc.

CMMI model is being widely adapted by organizations to prove their efficiency and
reputation. Some of the advantages of adapting CMMI model are:

 It provides good RoI (Return on Investment).

 When it is adapted, business sees heighted success.
 It is compatible with other quality related methodologies such as 6-Sigma, ISO
Standards and ITIL.
 CMMI model is always improving and evolving.
PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION
As discussed, that Total Quality is a description of the culture, attitude and organization of a
company that aims to provide, and continue to provide, its customers with products and
services that satisfy their needs. The culture requires quality in all aspects of the company's
operations, with things being done right first time, and defects and waste eradicated from
operations.
TQM is the way of managing for the future, and is far wider in its application than just assuring
product or service quality – it is a way of managing people and business processes to ensure
complete customer satisfaction at every stage, internally and externally, but the CMMI model
for software quality somewhere misses out on the TQM concept as CMMI model doesn’t take
into effect the concept of that pertains to the scope of application. CMMI aims at process
improvement in specific disciplines or process areas. The base model of CMMI caters to 22
such disciplines or “process areas." TQM, on the other hand aims at solving specific product
or process related issues within the context of overall organizational process improvement.
Thus, while CMMI is a domain specific improvement engine, Six Sigma has a much wider
application, serving as both an enterprise governance model and a tactical improvement engine
cutting across domains.

TIME DURATION
1 Months (17 th MARCH – 22 APRIL 2019).

PROJECT LIMITATION
a. Time limitation- the time limit is just 1 months and due to very little literature
survey of the problem stated in the given industry, also with conduction
interviews as source of primary data is a major constraint.
b. Resource Constraint- the literature survey will purely be based upon the resource
material sought on internet and books available in the library

AIM OF THE RESEARCH

Based on the problem identification, the aim of this research paper would be to formulate a
bond between the CMMI practices followed and incorporate the fundamentals of 6 Sigma
TQM into the CMMI basic for overall development.
RESEARCH METHODS AND SOURCES OF
DATA/INFORMATION
The research methodology used in the given work would be an exploratory research ,data
collected will be secondary data.
