REFLECTION PAPER

Topics discussed by the speaker in Component B are about cover letters,

resumes, and job interviews. It has been told to us that the main purpose of making
cover letters and resumes is to get an interview. In these requirements, it is important
to think of these as a sales pitch that will market our credentials. As such, we want to
make sure our cover letter makes the impression on the person who is reviewing it.
The letter provides detailed information on why we are qualified for the job being
applied for. We are taught to not simply repeat what is in the resume, rather, include
specific information on we are a strong match for the employer’s job requirements. It
has been also indicated to provide contact details at the end part of the letter for them
to easily contact us if we got an interview.

Together with the cover letter is the resume. The speaker let us know that
resumes are used to make a favourable impression on a prospective employer. It is
often the first impression a potential employer has of us. For this reason, it is
considered as one of the most crucial part of finding a job. A resume is a brief written
summary of a job applicant’s past employment history, education, and other pertinent
information. For a fresh graduate looking for a job, it has been indicated that we put
some achievements in school that can be related to the job we are applying for. In the
seminar, I have also learned that resumes follows a business format. However, it is
different in the case of applying in an architectural firm. We, architecture students or
graduates, can be as creative as we can in making our resumes, as it can also be an
indication of how skilful we are in terms of designing layouts. It can also be one of the
factors that makes the best impression of the potential employer of us.

Lastly, the speaker added some tips for us to know about best impressions in
finding a job. One of which is for the making of cover letter. We should be investigative
in terms of to whom should we address the letter, hence, we should ask the company
we are applying for. The other is we should be resourceful. We should put an effort in
knowing the company we are applying for to let them know that we are sincere in
applying and eager to know more about them.

Overall, I am grateful to know a lot of things from the Component B seminar as

it will make me an outstanding applicants among the others.
