ABSTRACT

In the construction project the first step involves the layout of the building followed
by design. This project report involves the layout and design of a house.
Layout of the house is based on a plot of 36’ x 65’. There is a ground floor followed
by first floor and mumty. A wide side passage of 5’ and 7’ is also accommodated in
the design. The drafting was done using AUTOCAD software, since the use of
AUTOCAD is mandatory for the use.
PROJECT REPORT

General:
The AUTOCAD is a software used for the drafting and designing of structures. This
software is feasible to use due to its various tools for complex drawings. Therefore,
AUTOCAD is used for the layout of the structure.
DETAILS OF PROJECT:
The plot size for the project was 35’x 65’. The house is designed by leaving ample
space for porch and side passage.

Layout using AUTOCAD:

The layout has been completed using line commands. Moreover, the units set for
the drawing is inches with precision of 0’-0 1/16”. The use of different commands
are also used for the designing purpose. The screen shot inserted below shows the
plan and elevations of the house.
Fig 1. Plan and Elevations
The structure in blue and red color shows the plan of the building along with the
elevations with white color. This is the view of the house from the North direction.
Layers:
Layers are being used for easy editing and viewing of the drawing.

Fig 2. Layers used for the drawing

Layers make it easy to manipulate each individual layer making it visible and
invisible for clarity as well as locking the layer to prevent editing in them. The
various layers that have been used are:
1. Board Text
2. Cabinet
3. Connection
4. Def. points
5. Dim
6. Door
7. Elevations
8. Fixtures
9. Furniture
10.G-F
11.Seal Text
12.Stair
13.Text
14.Title Block
15.Wall
16.Walls
17.Window
18.Windows
Blocks:
In order to manage the time, blocks were also used. It provided us the facility to
insert the desired block at different positions in the plan.

Fig 3. Blocks used for drawing

The blocks made it easy for the drawing to be completed in the given time
parameters. The following blocks were used for the AUTOCAD drawing:

1. Sofa
2. Bed
3. Basin
4. Cum board
5. Dining
6. Car
7. Shower
8. Side table
9. Sink
10.Stove
11.Table
12.TV
13.Ventry

Dynamic Blocks:
Dynamic block allows variety of control and behaviors for adding flexibility and
efficiency of working of blocks. With dynamic blocks you can insert a single block
that can change its shape, size, or display instead of inserting one of many static
block definitions.

Fig 4. Dynamic Blocks

Mentioned below are the dynamic blocks of the drawing:
1. Windows
2. Doors
Annotation:
Annotation objects include dimensions, notes, and other types of explanatory
symbols or objects commonly used to add information to your drawing.

Fig 5. Annotative Text Styles

Annotation objects provide information about a feature, such as the length of a wall
or dimensions of the room. Each text style shown in the screen shot is used for
distinctive purposes. The width factor can also be changed according to the
requirement.

Hatching:
Hatching allows to differentiate between the materials used in the drawing. Each
hatching style symbolizes different materials.

The different hatching styles for this drawing include:
PLANS

Ground Floor Plan:

Fig 7. Ground Floor Plan

The ground floor with a covered area of 1487.602 sqft consists of two bedrooms, a
porch, a drawing room, lounge and dining. Each wall is 9” thick. The staircase near
lobby is 11” x 3’-6”. The doors of different dimensions are used for each room.
Similarly, the dimensions of the windows also vary. Two sliding doors are present
in the dining. Moreover, a double door is present in the lounge for the main entrance.
The length of main gate is 16’.
First Floor Plan:

Fig 8. First Floor Plan

The first floor with total covered area of 1592.196 sqft consists of three bedrooms
with attached bath all with different dimensions. The unique part about this floor is
the lounge which is partially exposed to sunlight. Moreover, the facility of a kitchen
and a terrace is also available which makes it a separate unit. There are total 12 single
doors and eight windows the information of which is available in schedule of work.
Mumty:

Fig 9. Mumty Plan

The mumty plan consists of a staircase and a door. The stair case starts form the
first floor and ends at the mumty. There is a window present in the mumty plan
next to the staircase. The crossed area shows opening.
ELEVATIONS AND SECTION

Front Elevation:

Fig 10. Front Elevation

The front elevation gives the front view of both, the ground floor and the second
floor. The height of the view is 27’ excluding mumty. The door of lounge and two
windows of drawing and lounge are visible in the elevation of the ground floor. The
length from the roof of ground floor till finish floor is 10’. The first floor is also
visible from the elevation total height of which is 10’. The door of the terrace and
window of bedroom can be seen from the view. A reeling of 3’ is given to cover the
balcony and terrace from front. In addition to this, 3’ distance is given from the first
floor roof till the mumty. For better understanding, dimensions are also displayed.
Right Elevation:

Fig 11. Right Elevation

Right elevation gives an understanding of the right side of the house. The extreme
left side has a door which opens towards the drawing. Above it, is the reeling of
terrace and a window of 2’ is also shown in the drawing. The windows of ground
floor and first floor are visible from the center. All of these are of lounge, kitchen,
and bed. At the left end, the windows of both baths are noticeable. The reeling of
this side is also 3’ in height. The steps of the door next to lounge can also be seen,
the height of which is 6”. The terrace is a little extended since its dimensions are
different from that of the drawing.
Back Elevation:

Fig 12. Back Elevation

The back side of the house consists of three windows for each floor. The windows
are of beds and dresser. The dimensions of all the windows in vertical direction are
the same. The wall next to the third window is of the baths which are located at the
back of the house. There are not a lot of details in the back elevation.
SECTION:

Fig 13. Section

The section is taken from the horizontal axis. There are four columns present in this
section. There are two walls present in the extreme right column. The second column
has two doors each of which are of the kitchen. The white part mentioned above
windows and doors are the lintels. The window near the staircase is of the lobby.
The length if the window is 4’ and height is 5’. The window at the top is of the
mumty.
ISOMETRIC VIEW

Fig 14. Foundation

Foundation:

Fig 15. Foundation

The foundation is a stepped foundation. Each step is 6” in height and the length of
each footing varies. This footing is used to minimize amount of excavation. The
length of footing decreases with every step. The length of first footing is 2’-4”
followed by next footing which is 1’-21/2”. The third step is of 1’-6” and the next
step is1’-3/2”. The 9” width symbolizes the width of the wall.
Furniture Plan:

Fig 16. Furniture Plan

The furniture plan of the floors was made by using the commands of AUTOCAD.
Distinctive furniture was drawn for each room based on the requirement. Most of
the furniture is made with the help of line command, circle, rectangle and oval. The
dimensions of furniture were set according to the rooms’ dimensions.
