Problem 1
9The triangular area shown in Figure 3.19 is to be served by a feeder of
nominal voltage 12.47 kV. The load density of the area is 3500
kVA/mile2 at a power factor of 0.9 lagging. The conductor on the
primary main is 336,400 26/7 ACSR, and the configuration of the pole is
that of Figure 3.3.
9The impedance of the line is
z=0.306+j0.6272 ohm/mile and the Kdrop
factor is 0.00035291% drop/kVA-mile
9Krise factor for the given conductor
is 0.00040331% rise/kvar-mile.

9Use the Kdrop factor from the line of Example 3.2 and determine
1. the percent voltage drop from node n to node m.
2. determine the percent voltage drop from node n to middle of the line.
3. What should be the size and location (distance) of capacitor bank in order
to limit the percent voltage drop to node m to 1.5% only.
9Repeat the above problem (part 1 to part 3) for the rectangular area, having
length and width equal to 15000ft and 6000ft respectively.

9It is proposed to serve a rectangular and triangular area of length 10,000 ft. and
width of 6000 ft. The load density of the area is 2500 kVA/mile2 with a power factor
of 0.9 lagging. The primary main feeder uses 336,400 26/7 ACSR and the
impedance of the line was computed to be

9What is the minimum nominal voltage level that can be used to serve this area
without exceeding a voltage drop of 3% down the primary main? Compute, also, the
total three-phase power loss. The area to be served is shown in Figure.

• Consider a Two Wire, 120V street lighting
system having a different lighting load at
points A to F. HPS lamps are used in the
system. Distances in feet are marked on Fig.
• #4 AWG conductor is extended from service
point to C. #6 AWG conductor is extended
from C to F. Calculate the voltage drop in
each section.
• Maximum voltage drop must be 5% from
service point to furthest point. If it is higher
than the 5% suggest the alternate solution and
repeat the calculations.

• #4 AWG conductor is extended from service point
to C. #6 AWG conductor is extended from C to F.
• Calculate the voltage drop in each section.
• Maximum voltage drop must be 5% from service
point to furthest point. If it is higher than the 5%
suggest the alternate solution and repeat the
calculations.

ohms for following power factor of loads.
a. Power factor = 1.0
b. Power factor = 0.95
c. Power factor = 0.9
d. Power factor = 0.85
e. Power factor = 0.80

• Also compute the Krise factor for the above conductor. Assume 12.47
kV (line-to-line) system.

• A three-segment feeder is shown in Figure. The Kdrop factor for the
line segments is Kdrop = 0.00035291 and Krise factor = 0.00040331%
rise/kvar miles. Determine the percent voltage drop from N0 to N3.

• Also determine the rating of a three-phase capacitor bank to limit the


voltage drop to 1.0% from N0 to N3.

• Compute the total apparent, active and reactive power.

• Let suppose the voltage has been dropped from 12.47kV to 7.5% of
12.47kV. Compute the following quantities
1. The component of load current attributed to each component of the
load and the total load current.
2. The apparent power, active and reactive power attributed to each
component of the load and the total load current.
3. The total apparent power.
