March 2019.

Arunan, a writer for Current Science, writes about the type of materials needed to build a space craft

that will withstand leaving Earth and reaching Mars without faltering and the type of technology

needed. I believe this will be beneficial for my research because it will support the how questions

surrounding safe space travel. And the article will give insight on how other countries input is valued

and utilized. This isn’t to benefit just the United States, but the world.

Drimmer, a science writer for Popular Science, Popular Mechanics, National Geographic Kids magazine,

and Scholastic's Super Science and Science World magazines, writes how astronauts will travel to Mars

by using state of the art technology for the six -month journey and how astronauts will be chosen. For

example, personality tests will be conducted to match the right people together. With cramped quarters

and a two-year journal, everyone must get along. The purpose of this article is to inform and to explain

how this project will be conducted and what it entails. This article will be useful for my research because

it will add to the pros of a successful space travel and colonization of Mars

Fecht, an assistant editor for Poplar Science, explains how NASA will deliver man to Mars by

using repurposed engines originally intended for space shuttles; which will use thousands of gallons of

fuel and gases such oxygen and Hydrogen to propel thousands of tons of weight into earth’s atmosphere,

into space to destination Mars. The purpose of this article is to assure the public, space investors, and

scientists that NASA is taking every precaution to ensure safe travel to Mars. This article may contribute

some vital information to my research if I include a section on how colonist will travel to Mars by using

advance technology.

Grossman, an astronomy and science reporter for Science News, questions the harm of

introducing earth’s microbes to Mar’s environment and will they contaminate its delicate balance.

The purpose of this article is to warn scientist and organizations like NASA that if Earthlin gs

bring any form of life to Mars, it may confuse findings of microbial life on Mar’s. This article is

perfect for my research because it will strengthen the cons of colonizing not only Mars but other

planets. I cannot imagine the space junk left on Earth’s moon form past explorations nor the

space junk left orbiting.

Highland, the science editor for the newspaper The Telegraph., interviewed Professor Steven Hawkins,

who states, "The survival of the human race is at risk as long as it is confined to a single planet,"

he said. "Disasters such as an asteroid collision could wipe us all out.” I’m unclear as to why

Highland would interview the professor, but this article was produced on opinion rather than

scientific cause. I will not use this article in my research.

LEVCHENKO, IGOR, et al. “Mars Colonization: Beyond Getting There.” Global Challenges, vol. 3, no.

This article by Levchenko and colleagues warns that the colonization of Mars is closer than we

think. Levchenko states that the colonizing of Mars is in questioned since planners are faced with serious

responsibilities that could led to adverse ethical and economic consequences. The purpose of this article

is to question the pros and cons of colonizing Mars. In addition, the authors of t his article consult with

several professional in the field of space exploration. So, I am confident to incorporate their expert

opinions into my research project.

This is a very terrifying revelation and this article will aid in my research due to unanswered questions

such as cost for fuel, the long-term resources required for space travel and human survival, the impact

that mining and excavating will have on Mar’s environment and what enforced environmental laws will

developed and will space explores adhere to such laws?

STONER, IAN. “Humans Should Not Colonize Mars.” Journal of the American Philosophical Association,

vol. 3, no. 3, 2017, pp. 334–353., doi:10.1017/apa.2017.26. Accessed 3 March 2019.

This article is written by Professor, Ian Stoner, a highly regarded adjunct instructor of the

Department of Philosophy at Saint Paul College and has a 5.0 rating from “Rate My Professor.” Stoner

offers two arguments regarding man colonizing Mars. The (1) Stoner states, inhabiting Mars for the sake

of saving mankind is morally unethical. The (2) By colonizing Mar’s to rape it of its natural resources

too, is morally unethical. In addition, he believes that laws protecting its environment and its colonizers

must be implemented and enforced.

This article correlates with my belief that man shouldn’t colonize Mars because the mining and

excavating of its resources, the manufacturing of homes, etc. and the discarding of nonbiodegradable and

biological waste, will contaminate its environment and atmosphere. In addition, the transporting of

Earth’s microorganisms may adversely alter the Martian’s environment indefinite. So, both arguments.

entail that colonizing Mars is morally and unethically wrong and like Earth, mankind will destroy Mars’

by leaving environmental devastation and harmful containments.
