Standard 4: Instructional Delivery and

Management

Component 4.a: Demonstrate verbal and nonverbal communication skills that

convey respect and sensitivity across all learning experiences

Artifact: PED 356 Letter to Parents

Date: Fall 2018

Reflection:

Communication with parents is very important in the education setting. A relationship

with parents is a strategy that keeps them involved with their child’s learning. Parent

involvement usually correlates to better student achievement. In my adapted physical

education class, we kept in constant contact with our student’s parents. I was able to ensure

the student’s attendance to the program and keeping them updated on the performance of

their child. This culminated in writing them a letter at the end of the semester. The letter

consisted of what I have noticed in my time with their child in regard to their skill. This was in

reference to the goals I set out for Jaxon to reach by the end of the semester. I took this as an

opportunity to provide some positive feedback and suggestions on what he can work on

outside the program. This gave the parents/guardians an opportunity to help further their

child’s skill level with practices to do at home. The parent letter coincides with component 4.a

because I able to develop communication skills in my teaching. The parent letter was great

practice in corresponding my instruction and student learning with the parents. I am very
appreciative for the chance to hone my skills interacting with parents. Parent interaction is a

necessity to the skill development of the student.

To the Parent(s) of Jaxon,

Throughout the lessons that Jaxon has been participating in the Tuesday night skill
builders program, he has brought energy and a great attitude to every session. He is a pleasure
to work with. His enthusiasm has been contagious and a joy.
Jaxon’s locomotor and manipulative skills have progressed greatly in the past twelve
weeks. He is more comfortable dribbling and applying more skills than just running around.
Jaxon still needs to be reminded sometimes to stay on task with firm instruction but has been
improving by the week.
Jaxon is very athletic and very advanced in physical activity. Since day one, I have
noticed mature movements in almost everything I try to introduce.
Jaxon seems to enjoy running around and doing anything that pertains to running. He
started out struggling to dribble and now has been able to move around while dribbling. His
advanced kicking patterns does show a history in soccer. He should definitely explore all types
of activities and sports to keep finding aspects that he enjoys. Jaxon shows a lot of potential
and growth to be a great athlete. He also shows promise to thrive in physical education and
maintain this type of lifestyle for greater overall health.
Again, I just want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to work with Jaxon! He is
an extremely bright student, with a lot of potential! I hope Jaxon continues his great work and
succeeds as an individual and scholar.

Sincerely,

Kevin Gaussaint
