1.

0 Purpose

The purpose of generating this method statement is to define the procedure step by step
to implement the correct practices for installation of Conduiting works.

2.0 Scope

This method statement refers to various work procedures contained within project quality
plan and Contract specifications which explains and covers the installation of Conduiting
works.

3.0 Responsibilities

3.1 Project Manager (visits twice a week)

a) Ensure all required submittals area made and required plant / tools/ material and
manpower is available in timely manner.
b) Ensure all execution of works area carried out according to approvals, contract
specifications, approved shop drawings
c) Ensure necessary coordination with all involved for timely completion of job.

3.2 Site Engineer(Engineer-In charge)::

a) Timely provision of relevant and complete information, approved documents and


instructions to site execution / installation team.
b) Proper execution of works as per approved documents, (method statement)MS,
Drawings and adopt all safety measures as required.
c) The implementation of the procedures mentioned in MS with the help of
concerned site engineers / site supervisors.
d) To carry out site work activities with regards to Quality and Safety requirements.

4.0 Tools & equipments

Tools and equipment required for this activity as per listed below.

4.1 Fitter Tool Box


4.2 Electricians Tool Box
4.3 Pipe bending machine
4.4 Threading cutting die
4.5 Spanners / Hand tools
4.6 Hack saw,
4.7 Level indicator, Plumb bob.

5.0 Installation

5.1 Preparation Work

Before the commencement of installation, the following are required to be carried out.

5.1.1 Check sufficient storage area is available in the store.

5.1.2 Check that all the allocated work area is clear and fronts are ready and safe for
installation.

5.1.3 Conduit layout and routes shall be approved before starting of work.

5.1.4 Ensure availability of all materials as per approved documents.

5.1.5 All materials required as per approved layouts shall be checked for necessary
approvals like make, size, model, type etc.

5.1.6 Conduit routes shall be chosen for easy, straight runs with a minimum of bends
and crossings.

5.1.7 Conduit shall be kept 300mm of floors and ceiling running parallel to them.

5.1.8 Outlet boxes for housing accessories shall be used as draw boxes.

5.1.9 All conduits shall be kept clear from gas and water pipes. Conduits shall be
150mm away from gas pipes.

5.1.10 Electrical and mechanically (for Ms Conduit) continuity shall be maintained


through out all conduit joints termination. Conduit threads shall be
thoroughly cleaned and the
conduits tightly screw. The conduit system shall be watertight after installation.

5.1.11 Conduit shall be bent cold with a bending spring or PVC solid bend.

5.1.12 Bends shall be made with as large a radius as the conduit within the building
permits.

5.2 Installation of Recessed Conduiting

5.2.1 Mark and line out the route of conduit as per approved shop drawings with
marking threads / marking powder.

5.2.2 Conduit recessed in concrete members shall be laid before casting, in the upper

portion of the slabs, so as to embedded the entire run of conduits and ceiling
outlet boxes with a cover of minimum 12mm concrete.

5.2.3 Conduits shall be adequate tied to the reinforcement to prevent displacement


during casting at the intervals of maximum one meter.

5.2.4 Conduits recessed in brickwork shall be laid in chases to be cut by machine.

5.2.5 The chases shall be of sufficient width to accommodate the required number of
conduits and of sufficient depth to permit full thickness of plaster over conduits.

5.2.6 The conduit pipes are fixed using saddles at an interval of 500mm distance or as
per the approved documents.

5.2.7 For chases more than 75mm width, a chicken wire mesh shall be provided for
the full length and width of chase in the plaster to prevent cracking by the civil
agencies.

5.2.8 Sharp edges of metal conduit shall be filed to avoid damages to insulation of
wires and painted with paint.

5.2.9 Wooden screw & nylon sleeves are used on drilled holes.

5.2.10 In case of laying of conduit on structural steel, cleats / spacers & wherever
welding is
required.

5.3 Installation of Surface Conduiting

5.3.1 Wherever so desired conduit shall be laid in surface over finished concrete and /
or plaster over bricks.

5.3.2 Suitable spacer saddles of approved make shall be fixed to the final structural
surface along the conduit route at the intervals not exceeding 600mm.

5.3.3 Hole on concrete or brickwork for fixing the saddles shall be made neatly by
electric drill machine.

5.3.4 All surface conduits shall be run in a vertical or horizontal direction.

5.3.5 The entire jointing in PVC conduit assembly shall be done using PVC solvent
cement only. Wherever the conduits are terminated in PVC switchboard
boxes or PVC, socket outlets boxes, the use of collars, male female type of
adaptors shall be only used

5.3.6 The conduit will be properly earthed with system earthing.

5.3.7 Sharp edges of metal conduit shall be filed to avoid damages to insulation of
wires and painted with paint

5.3.8 Flexible conduits shall be used to take connections from an accessible location
and end connections to motor terminal boxes.

5.3.9 In damp areas like pump room and external areas, PVC covered metallic flexible
conduits shall be used.

5.3.10 Expansion couplers shall be used wherever conduit passes through building
expansion joints.

5.4 Final Installation of Conduits.

5.4.1 Conduits shall be installed, concealed in building claddings or above suspended


ceilings in finished areas and may be installed exposed only in unfinished areas.

5.4.2 Clean the external surfaces of the conduit and terminal boxes. Checking for any
damage etc.

5.4.3 Check the tightness of all installations.

5.4.4 All pull boxes, junction boxes fixed on the wall with screw in the route of conduit
shall be provided with cover after pulling the wires.
