Parts of milking machine Function
 Milking unit 1. Teat cup 2. Teat cup shell
3. Rubber Liner 4. Milk tube 5. Vaccum tube The milking machine
 Vaccum pump
 Regulator performs two
 Pulsator basicfunctions:

1.It causes milk to flow

from a teat by exposing the
teat end to a partial
vacuum.

2.It massages the teat in an

effort to relieve the effects
of a continuous milking
vacuum.

Advantages Disadvantages
1. Less use of labour for milking 1. Needed trained technical staff to run

2. Less time for milking 2. Malfunction could cause demage to cattle

3. Efficient in working 3.But several parts are needed to be changed after

sometime

4. Increase in productivity 4. Are too costly

5. Less contact with disease causing pathogen 5. Needed to repair by a mechanic

Mechanism of working of milking machine

Milk is extracted from the Cow's udderby flexible rubber sheaths known as liners or inflations that are surrounded by a rigid air
chamber.

 A pulsating flow of ambient air and vacuum(100to140kPa) is applied to the inflation's air chamber during the milking
process.
1. When ambient air is allowed to enter the chamber, the vacuum inside the inflation causes the inflation to collapse
around the cow's teat, squeezing the milk out of teat in a similar fashion as a baby calf's mouth massaging the teat.
2. When the vacuum is reapplied in the chamber the flexible rubber inflation relaxes and opens up,preparing for the next
squeezing cycle.
