The Sports Premium

Article 29: Education should develop each child's personality and talents to the full.
Article 31: All children have a right to relax and play, and to join in a wide range of
activities.
Purpose of the Funding
The Government is giving funding to schools for a specific purpose. Schools
must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and
sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.

Possible uses for the funding might include:

• hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with

primary teachers when teaching PE
• supporting and engaging the least active children through new or
additional Change4Life clubs
• paying for professional development opportunities for teachers in PE
and sport
• providing cover to release primary teachers for professional
development in PE and sport
• running sport competitions, or increasing pupils’ participation in the
School Games
• buying quality assured professional development modules or materials
for PE and sport
• providing places for pupils on after school sports clubs and holiday clubs
• pooling the additional funding with that of other local schools.
At Stag Lane Juniors we provide physical activity during the school day as well
as further extra-curricular clubs. P.E. develops pupils’ physical competence and
confidence as well as their ability to use these to perform a range of activities.
The school currently provides a minimum of 2 hours of P.E. every week where
skills are taught through P.E. lessons. We have also offered (and continue to
offer) a wide variety of sports provision after school, both through our own
staff and through outside providers. We have the facilities to offer one indoor
lesson and outside activities on the playground and field.

The self-discipline and collaboration expected of the children in sport impacts

positively upon behaviour within the classroom.
Our PE curriculum
A wide range of PE is delivered to the pupils, which aims to engage and inspire
all pupils.

In Yr6 we choose Sports Captains who work with the P.E. Coordinator to offer
sport activities on the playground at lunchtime. In addition, they support the
coordinator in running Change for Life for pupils at lunchtime.

Partnership Work
Our school is part of a local partnership which meets regularly to plan
competitions for the children and share good practice. We have found this
beneficial as it has given our children the opportunity to participate regularly in
Inter-School competitions.

Additionally, we work with Kingsbury High School to carry out an activity to

promote Sports Ambassadors and leadership.

Last year the school gained the Bronze Kite Mark for P.E.

After School Activities or Lunchtime Activities

Over the last few years we have offered a range of activities to pupils after
school, e.g. basketball, cricket, football, netball. We evaluate the clubs on
offer based on attendance and pupils’ views.

Currently we off the following clubs after school:

Football Skills, Karate, Zumba, Multi-Sports. In the next few weeks we will also
offer Netball and Change for Life.

Currently we offer supported basketball and 4 square on the playground,

organised by well-trained Learning Mentors.

At Stag Lane Juniors we have decided to use the funding in the

following ways- see Sports Premium Action Plan.
