Project Title : Migration from SMS to TWMS

16th Jan – 15th Feb 2019

Monthly Objective:
Allocation of bins and location for wear parts in Tool and Wear part
Management System (TWMS) for TMHT Store

About the Task:

The main objective of this project was to design and implement a new
inventory system in which new wear parts and tools can also be
located, along with the existing consumables. Based on this new
system, further objectives can be achieved.
Since the data has been collected on the wear parts and tools which
have to be included in the TMHT Store, the next step is to provide a
location and allocated the respective bins in the racks. This includes
the part identification and allocation of bin.
Steps taken to achieve the task:
1) Identification of Parts from supplier list
2) Identification of respective line and machine where the part is
used
3) Generation of location for the part according to the TWMS
4) Physically moving the part to new location and checking for any
errors and bin identification.
5) Generating the location list for reference to the rack locations.

2|
Task Status:
Since the number of wear parts is large, this task may take up more
than 2 weeks as a lot of the wear parts are needed to be moved to new
locations. This activity should also complete the inclusion of parts to
the TWMS and hence the system should be ready to be tested by the
end of this task.
The task is expected to be complete by 2 weeks (maximum).

Overall Project Progress:

The inventory system is undergoing the change now in terms of
physical locations of parts. This is the practical movement and
allocation of new wear parts and tools in migrating from SMS to
TWMS. The analysis of the system will be based on this.

Project Title : Implementing New System to
manage and issue tools

16th Feb– 15th Mar 2019

Monthly Objective:
Making relations of machines and tools used in TM Case Machining
line along with component codes.

About the Task:

The main objective of this project was to implement a new inventory
of tools that are running on TM Case Machining line. Adding
relations of machines with tools running in machines and the
components that are machined on the line and assigning life of a tool
in the system so that tool life can be found in real time. Based on this
new system, further objectives can be achieved.
The input data such as machine codes, component codes, tool codes,
tool life, line number were provided in the master sheet which was
made using previous data and tool trails.
Steps taken to achieve the task:
1) Making relations of tools with machines
2) Identification of errors in the system data
3) Matching of actual tool inventory with system generated tool
inventory

4|
4) Identification of tools with expired or modified tool codes and
forwarding the list to the id department for correction.
5) Generation of new item codes and entry of new tool in the
system.
6) Issuing tool on machine on daily basis on register and then on
the system.

Task Status:
The task is completed and further modifications are done to punch
production on the system to note the tools consumed in real time.

Overall Project Progress:

The issuing of tools is done on daily bases and the production
relations are in progress and once it is done then we’ll be able to keep
eye on the tools that are to be changed before their breakage and
causing loss in components going NG and also the regrinding of all
the tools which are regrindable can be sent on regrind on time. The
system will be able to give notification when to change tools.

Project Title: Mapping of cooling ducts (Air
washers)

16th Jan – 15th Feb 2019

Monthly Objective:
To maintain and balance the temperature of transmission plant (heat
treatment area)

About the Task:

The objective was to design a new or modified version of ventilating
ducts for better flow of air. Along with the existing cooling system to
have better circulation of air.
We drew the map of the existing ducts of heat treatment area and
balance by making sure that every machine and resting area should
have at least one air duct for fresh air and not to overload one
particular line of Air washers
Steps taken to achieve the task:
1) Drew the map of lines by visiting on every machine line
2) Counting the ducts from air washer line
3) Counting ducts on every machine on line
4) Allocating new ducts on machines which are short on ducts
consulting our mentor.
5) Remove ducts from overloaded line or by sealing it.

6|
Task Status:
As the plant is very large it took almost a week to draw the plant and
machines layout and then took another week to assign ducts to the
necessary machines and removing extra ducts on the map. Then the
map will be forwarded to the professional to see if there anything else
that could be done to improve.

Overall Project Progress:

The finalised layout of the air washers is to be made by professional
using the data we have assembled and from the feedback of the
workers in the heat treatment area. The construction will be done by
Maruti workers. The task will be completed by the end of the March.
After that we will run the inspection check to make sure that
everything is running smoothly.
