Although it is important to be able to read and understand a piece of writing on the

surface level, it is far more important and useful to be able to examine and critically think about

an important piece of literature. This is why an analytical essay is so important to a writer,

because the skills to examine and interpret a piece of writing extend far beyond just writing an

essay. The analytical essay is very key to this skill, because it forces the writer to take a much

narrowed down research question from a piece of writing, and extend on it until they and the

reader fully understand what they either are reading or writing about. The essay also teaches a

writer how to be well organized, because a key part of an analytical essay is that it is well

organized. This helps make the writers thoughts more clear and to the point, and helps out the

reader make sense of the essay.
