a supporter of Pompey, and this was the last issue of denarii before the Caesarian
occupation of Rome. Sicinius fled with other Pompeians before Caesar’s victorious

during the blockade of Massalia in 49 BC. He then served as moneyer, and his

was inspired by a painting by the celebrated 4th century artist Nicomachus of Greek legend, rev. ∆HMAPX EΞYΠAT B, in two lines in wreath (BMC 101; Sear,
Thebes, which was placed on the Capitol by the moneyer’s brother L. Munatius GIC, 1069), black patina, almost EF/EF £80
Plancus in 43 BC, on the occasion of his Gallic triumph. Reverse slightly off centre,

chain-mail. A recent excavation nearby has found the grave of a high-ranking individual buried with his Stater, devolved Apollo head right, rev. disjointed horse left, large pellet below
chain-mail neatly folded as a cushion for his head, and can be seen in the Verulamium Museum.
