Project Summary and Impact

An overview of a few pbl activities the students will participate in during the project.

I believe that this project will do so much more than just give back to the community. I think the

impact that it will have on my students is incredibly necessary. I teach at a prestigious private

school that is predominantly white making up for 70% of the student population (GreatSchools).

Through the years I have seen many of my students experience the extravagant benefits of

wealth. Such as, world-wide traveling to dream destinations, owning the best and newest

technology out, and having all the basic living essentials that they need. I have also noticed that

my students tend to be very sheltered; they are unaware of the community around them. This

project will help them to question the people of their surrounding communities, as well as their

own. They will become researched in the subject of poverty and how it is evident in their own

environments. They will then be given the opportunity to be generous with their wealth, which

will positively benefit their development. This is why I believe this project will have an

unparalleled effect to a community of advantaged people that may not receive this humbleness

otherwise.

Some of the activities the students will participate in include the following:

1. Create a team contract that binds each student to different parts of the group project.

2. Interview representatives from local shelters or organizations that provide help to people

in need.

3. Write a script advertising their public service announcement.

4. Investigate and create different solutions to the poverty issue in our community.

5. Present their solutions verbally to parents, city officials, other teachers and staff, and

representatives from various organizations that confront poverty.
