All praise is to Allah who has given me chance and health so that I can
finish this paper properly. Salawat and salam to our prophet, Muhammad Saw,
who has brought us from the darkness into the brightness.

We are very thankful for my lecturer, for Miss Shena Samira Ilza, S.Pd,
MA as my lecturer of Intermediate Structure subject who always teaches me and
give much knowledge about how to practice English well.

This assignment is the one of English task that composed of Intermediate

Structure, Usage English As Second Language we realized this assignment is not
perfect. But we hope it can be useful for us. Critics and suggestion is needed here
to make this assignment be better.

INTRODUCTION

A. Background of the paper

As we know, study about structure that we have a lot of knowledge.
Some of them are grammar and kinds of text. This paper will explain about
grammar particularly for present perfect tense, also about kinds of text such as
announcement, advertisement, news item, and review text that we will explain
in this paper.

Besides we study about present perfect, we must know the purpose and
the formula of it. For texts, we must know definition, purpose, generic
structure, language features, and the example of the texts

CONTENTS

A. Present Perfect Tense

1. Definition
The present perfect tense is a verb tense used to express actions that
occurred at a non-specific time. The present perfect tense is also used to
express actions that started in the past but continue to the present.

2. Purpose
The Present Perfect is Used to Express:
 actions of duration that occurred in the past (before now) of unspecified
time
 actions that started in the past but continue to the present
 actions that started in the past but stopped recently.

3. Pattern
(+) Subject + have/has + past participle +o/c
(-) subject + have/has + not + Past participle + o/c
(?) have/ have + Subject + past participle + o/c

4. Example
1. (+) she has taught here since 1970
(-) she has not taught here since 1970
(?) has she taught here since 1970?
2. (+) I have read your letter
(-) I have not read your letter

B. Announcement
1. Definition
An announcement is a written or spoken statement in public or formal
words containing information about an event that has happened or is going to
happen so publicly people know what, when, and where it is about.

2. Purpose
An announcement is used for giving people some information of what has
happened or what will happen.

3. Generic Structure

 Stating Purpose: The text that contains what event will be held
 Stating Day and Date: Day and Date realization. The text that contains
when the event will be held
 Stating Place: The text that contains where the event will be held
 Informing Sender: The text that contains name of the person who will
be contacted

4. Language Features

 Using Simple Present Tense and simple future tense.

 Using exact noun
 Pronunciation and Intonation (spoken announcement)
 Spelling and Punctuation

5. Kinds of Announcement

 public service announcements

 high school graduation announcements
 marriage and wedding announcements
 birth announcements
 lost and found

ANNOUNCEMENT

In order to commemorate the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, it

is expected that Mr. / Mrs. Teacher, Administrative Staff along with other lines
are also students of Cimahi Vocational School 1 to be able to attend:

Place: NurulIhsan Mosque Hall

This annual event will invite many speakers from outside the school and
entertainment from the Justice Voice nasyid group.

That's all announcements about this prophet's birthday program. Request

C. Advertisement
1. Definition
Advertisement text is a text consists of a public announcement commonly
found in a newspaper, television, or internet advertising. Sometimes it is about
a product, services, or an event for sale.

2. Purpose
To urge the listener or reader to buy or use the product or services being
advertised.To announce about a product, services, or an event to the public.To
convince of communication about a product, services, or an event so that the
user effort to use the product or services.

3. Generic Structure
 Purpose: What is the purpose of the writer to compose the
advertisement text
 Name of product: This is about name and brand. What product, service
or events to sell
 User: Who need the product. What the product and service for

 4. Kinds of Advertisement
 Printed Advertisement
Printed advertisement is an advertisement that it is published by
using printed media, such as newspaper, magazine or others.
 Advertorial
Advertorial is an advertisement formed as news.
 Display Advertisement
Display Advertisement is an advertisement in which it is displayed
in an image or big letters.
 Electronic Advertisement
Electronic Advertisement is an advertisement published using
electronic media, such as, radio advertisement, television
advertisement, internet advertisement, etc.
5. Example
For you ladies, who wear hijab but wanna have healthy hair, we have a
good solution for you all, choose Sariayu Shampoo as your great shampoo.
This shampo is made for hijab women in the world. Choose it and you will
make it as your forever choice.

D. News Item
1. Definition
A news item is a text that informs the reader about the day's events. These
events are considered newsworthy or important. This means that if there is an
important event that must be known by many people, then this event deserves
news. News text is called text news item. However, if there are events that
people do not deserve, they are not worthy of being made news.

2. Purpose
 To provide information to readers about valuable news or important
events of the day
 To present information to readers about valuable news or important
events on that day

3. Generic Structure
 Orientation : Background information on the text
 Interpretation : Summary of an art work (including charaters and plot)
 Evaluation : Concluding statement (judgement,opinion, or
recommendation)
 Summary Evaluation : The last opinion consisting of the appraisal or
punch line of the art work being reviewed

4. Language Features
 Focusing on the situation
 Using the verb and adverb
 The scene is mentioned
 Use present tense and past tense
 Using adverbs: time, place and way
 Use of material processes to retell the event

5. Example

Dubai. Iran’s Haj and Pilgrimage Organization said on Sunday (29/05)

the country’s pilgrims would not attend the annual Muslim haj pilgrimage,
blaming regional rival Saudi Arabia for “sabotage” and failing to
guarantee the safety of pilgrims.Relations between the two countries
plummeted after hundreds of Iranians died in a crush during last year’s haj
and after Riyadh broke diplomatic ties when its Tehran embassy was
stormed in January over the Saudi execution of a Shi’ite cleric.The dispute
has provided another arena for discord between the conservative Sunni
Muslim monarchy of Saudi Arabia and the revolutionary Shi’ite republic
of Iran, which back opposing sides in Syria and other conflicts across the
region.

“Due to going sabotage by the Saudi government, it is hereby

announced that … Iran’s pilgrims have been denied the privilege to attend

 the haj this year, and responsibility for this rests with the government of
Saudi Arabia,” the Haj and Pilgrimage Organization said in a statement
carried by Iran state media. Saudi media earlier said an Iranian delegation
had left the kingdom without an agreement over the haj, the second time
the two countries have failed to reach a deal. Saudi Arabia has blamed Iran
for the impasse.“The issue of ensuring the safety of the pilgrims was very
important for us, considering the past actions of the Saudi government last
year and the martyrdom of many pilgrims from Iran and other countries,”
Iranian Culture Minister Ali Jannati told Iran state television.

Iran boycotted the haj for three years after 402 pilgrims, mostly
Iranians, died in clashes with Saudi security forces at an anti-US and anti-
Israel rally in Mecca in 1987. Eight months after the last haj, Saudi Arabia
has still not published a report into the disaster, at which it said more than
700 pilgrims were killed, the highest death toll at the annual pilgrimage
since a crush in 1990

E. Review Text
1. Definition
Review text is an evaluation of a publication, such as a movie, video
game, musical composition, book; a piece of hardware like a car, home
appliance, or computer; or an event or performance, such as a live music
concert, a play, musical theatre show or dance show.

2. Generic Structure
 Orientation : Background information of the text.
 Evaluations : Concluding statement : judgement, opinion, or
 recommendation. It can consist ot more than one.
 Interpretative Recount : Summary of an art works including character
and plot.
 Evaluative Summation : The last opinion consisting the appraisal or the
punch line of the art works being criticized.

boarding schools, his life is almost perfect because he has wealth, and in such
a high position. However speck of arrogance rooted in his heart bear fruit into
disbelief and turned away from the creator.Naura is women who causes all
begin, she is a woman who Naufal admired even made him fall in love.
Despite having to compete with other men who also admired Naura, Naufal
still fight for love to see the point of success.
The difference does not cause environmental background Naufal
discouraged, Naufal is a male born in boarding schools while Naura is a girl
born in an ordinary neighborhood, and she was not veiled. Naufal and Naura
finally take a wedding after graduation S-1. Naura still not accustomed to

boarding schools but according to Naufal it is his duty as a husband who must
guide his wife. In the end they moved away from the boarding school
environment when Naura pregnant. Naufal task force offices to go to
Semarang when his wife is pregnant. From this their household are troubled
because of Naura does not allow Naufal to leave, inevitably Naufal finally
went to Semarang. His wife began to turn away from it, Naufal too. After a
long work, Naufal tempted by life in Semarang. Liquor, alcohol and
promiscuity surrounds it like a virus that eats away life. Naufal and Naura
rarely communicate, Naufal so rarely return even when his son was born he
was not there. His wife to be changed, Naura becoming drug addicts and can
not take care of their children more often even torturing his own son.
Naufal realized that what he has done is despicable, until he decided to finish
everything. He returned to the right path and get home to his wife and son he
had not seen. But when he got home he saw his wife were looking for a drug
that has been consumed, drugs. Thin body, her hair is not structured like a
woman who'd lost her mind. Naufal heard a baby's cry, she hugged her tight
little body wrapped in leather just because it was never taken care of by his
wife, and it turns out it was her last cries that greeted his return.
This novel is very remarkable because it teaches many lessons of
hubris. The ability of the author to tell the scene by scene in a novel perfect
flow with a very precise word choice. With solid words meaning, this novel is
able to make us as if entered in a groove played by each character. Because of
the novel included a religious novel, so many lessons that we can take when
reading this novel.
From the explanation is already clear that this novel is very interesting
to read, as it contains moral values, especially the much talked about in this
novel is about religion. By reading this novel someone can become a better
human being in touch with the creator. This novel is very suitable for
teenagers and adults, because not just talk about religion but also about love. I
really recommend you to read it. Try reading this novel and you will roam
moral values. Try it!

B. Suggestion
Don’t forget to apply what we got from what we have learned like perfect
tense, we can apply in daily life. As we know, we will meet texts everyday. There
are kinds of text we meet like advertisement, announcement, news item and
review text. So we must know what are the purposes of those texts and what they
talk about. We should care about kinds of text that which we meet in daily life.
